Joss Whedon Comments On Artificial Intelligence Aspect Of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

The folks at Entertainment Weekly recently ran a piece on the many movies coming next year that will involve some sort of artificial intelligent, which certainly include Avengers: Age of Ultron. Though he didn't offer new details about his Marvel sequel, writer/director Joss Whedon weighed in on whether or not he thinks the A.I. we create will destroy us all. “It’s our new Frankenstein myth,” he said. “We create something in our own image and the thing turns on us. It has that pain of ‘Well, why was I made? I want to kill Daddy.'” This definitely applies to Avengers: Age of Ultron, in which the titular robot villain, created by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, decides that the only way to save humanity is to destroy it. Whedon continued, referencing a short story by Ray Bradbury, The Small Assassin:" “I don’t remember seeing an artificial-intelligence movie where the robot is bonkers—the most emotionally unstable person in the film—and who has the knowledge of 3,000 years of recorded history and who's a pouty teen, all at the same time.” What do you think?

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Avengers: Age of Ultron May 1, 2015.

I think A.I. is mostly handled in a way that reflects human paranoia because of the insecurities of the human world. We never think we're good enough, we always have to be better, we know that better may not be the way to go but we continously push, and push, and push.

So we think that if we create something without control, it will imitate us. I personally enjoyed Bicentennial Man as an alternate to something like Terminator, 2 different movies on each side of the spectrum.
