Robert Downey Jr. On Chris Evans, Downside of Playing Iron Man And AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

During an Q&A with Variety, Robert Downey Jr. discussed the perks and disadvantages of playing Iron Man, recalled urging Chris Evans to play Captain America, and praised Joss WhedonThe Avengers: Age of Ultron script. There was so much riding on (playing the part of) what essentially could be considered the squarest superhero in history, said Downey of why he, too, urged the hesitent Evans to play Steve Rogers. It was probably the most risky of the franchises we launched. I say we, like I’m a company man, which I like to think I am. By the way, I’m a fan of his. He continued, I’m not kidding. I’m having 50 kids over and I’m screening Captain America 2 on my birthday, which happens to be the day it opens. I haven’t seen it. That’s one of the perks of being on the inside track at Marvel. I hope it’s not watermarked too heavily.

When asked how many more Marvel Cinematic Universe ventures does he think there will be, Robert Downey Jr. said: The smart money is you have to look at everybody’s age. I’ll put myself at the top of the list. Sooner or later, they’ve got to start over and get somebody young. I’m not there with them yet. It really is the closest thing to being a beloved contract player with a big old-timey studio that there is right now. When you really think about it at the end of the day, these films are entertainment largely driven by young folks. There is something very honorable about that. I run into kids wearing Captain America' masks. My kid believes that Captain America is real." On the downside of playing a superhero, the actor said, It’s kind of like having a really cool TV job. They are always hoping they don’t get picked up for another season; or they are wondering if they’re going to get picked up for another season; or they have done so many seasons, and they are already sick of doing the show, but the show is so big, it’s working well for them. Any of those three things is better than calling your agent and saying, ‘Hey, anything going on? It’s pilot season.’ ”

As for The Avengers  sequel, Downey declared: “This one is a very ambitious sequel. If you read it, it’s dense, it’s smart. Joss [Whedon] is a really smart guy. My 2-year-old is crazy about Hawkeye, and I think Jeremy [Renner] has a lot to do with the plot. There’s always so many plates to spin to get these things half-right, and I’m really excited about this one.”

It does look pretty ambitious. I hope it easily tops the first Avengers in levels of story-telling and pure AWESOME!

So, Hawkeye is getting more time? So is Black Widow. And the Hulk, supposedly. Plus, we`ve got at least three newcomers - Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and the Vision. And Ultron. And we all know that Downey is gonna get some. How long is this movie again?

Cap and Thor have already had two solo films each (+ more greenlit). Hawkeye is one of the characters that desperately needs character development.

Seems like he's upbeat, positive & seemingly very willing to be in more Marvel films.
Age is a factor but with the CG & use of stuntmen,he can play Iron Man for 10 more years easy.

Wouldn't it be kinda boss if RDJ went to the Batman vs Superman premiere?

They don't have to replace you Robert... All they have to do is retire "Tony Stark" from the movies. Too many characters to use, no need to be replacing the same ones with new actors.

In photos from the set, Scarlet Witch seems to be casting some spells? What do you guys think about it? Did you see the red spells like in hqs

There needs to be a one-shot of Hawkeye's adventure(s) in phase 2

Seriously, imagine if he showed up. He'd basically be telling marvel fanboys to grow-up. That would be all kinds of awesome.

All of the MCU actors should show up at the BvS premiere. Fill up the theater.
That will send a stronger message to the fans.

If they did that I'd honestly start to cry. They would show the fans to grow-up and not act like immature children.

@Pedrito

I like them too. I love the way that Scarlet Witch look, but does she have other clothes at the end of the movie? That's cool, but seems kind of simple when she gets close to the other Avengers.
My concern is also when she drop the spells they be red like in the comics. I hope so!!!

I don't think there's that many immature fans, though. It's just that the immature ones are also super loud.
But they're also fun to fight with and tell to stfu.

I can't imagine that she'll stay on those clothes. Unless Hot Topic is a major sponsor for the movie.

Would she's casting spells?

i'll say this.. if Feige's not doing another solo Iron Man movie with RDJ, and he's not too sure bout a solo Hulk flick..WHY NOT combine em both and do a TEAM-UP movie, like they did in the animation dept. with an Iron Man-Hulk buddy movie. Whedon already kinda built that relation up in the first Avengers anyway... and i think the fans kinda expected to see more Banner in IM 3.

so how bout it mr. Feige..?? whilte Downey's still got some super hero mileage in him.
