That's right, dumb test audiences are what robbed us of what was no doubt a very cool cameo featuring Tom Hiddleston's Loki in Avengers: Age of Ultron! As the Crimson Peak star explains in the video above, they for some reason assumed that the scene was leading to the reveal that the God of Mischief was in control of the android, hence why Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon understandably felt like it was necessary to remove it from the movie. It sounds like Loki's role was fairly sizeable, so it's confusing why Marvel didn't include the scene on the DVD and Blu-ray, but it could just be that they're saving it for that upcoming Phase 2 box set. What do you think about these comments?

According to the Blu-Ray commentary, test audiences were also the reason why the Norn possession version of the cave scene was cut.

I mean as DrDoom points out, the Mind Stone was used by Loki first, and also used to create Ultron.

Audiences are smart. It's all starting to crumble. Not their fault the writers come up with this stuff on the spot.

If Marvel didn't throw these random, wild "connections" last focking minute every single film something might actually make sense.

Between the awful humor flavor and hassloween looking costumes half the time, the only thing that's keeping me interested in Marvel Studios is Tom Hallond / New Spider-Man.

Well Loki controlling Ultron would have made a lot more sense then Ultron searching the internet for a few mins and becoming pure evil.

Too bad test audiences didn't complain about the plot holes (some of which are explained via the deleted scenes).

I love Age of Ultron, but let's be real: it has flaws.

Wish Marvel Studios would release a directors cut, even if Whedon said he didnt care. I'd like to see Whedons finished AOU.

Ultron should have existed as a personality-less AI controlling the Avenger Drones at the beginning of the movie. Then Stark and Banner use the Mind Stone to enhance him to full autonomous A.I. It would have introduced Ultron in the first minutes of the film and his turn toward evil would have been an actual pivot rather than him somehow being born that way.

But how is Loki still in control of the Mind Gem? Does that mean you don't need to physically have the Gem to use it? Are all the gems like that, if you had it in your possession at once than do you always have a connection to the gem and its power? If that is the case than why did Thanos even bother giving Loki the Scepter if he could still harness its power without having it physically?

So I am still confused. Was the AI Chitari or the Mind Gem itself?

Should've just placed the time gem in this film. But I think it would be better fit in Civil War with Zemo trying to go back to revive Red Skull or possibly rewrite American history. Highly doubt it'll happen seeing how packed it already is.

don't mind it, the movie was still great without Loki, and it doesn't sound like his one scene would have actually added that much.


Plus, I would assume this saves a movie on his contract.

I think had they included his scene, as trivial or significant as it may or may not have been...even I would've seen a correlation that wasn't there or intended. Knowing Loki is already guising as Odin, one could conceivably see him acting as Ultron's puppet master of sorts...and that would've ruined the movie for a lot of people.

Scrapping the extended Thor bathtub scene was a bit off though, as that extended scene made sense where the cut version just didn't and seemed to be lacking (and now I know why).

Makes me wonder though, if Hiddleston's cameo, albeit brief, would constitute as an "appearance" under his contract if that same appearance were cut from the theatrical release?

Everything related to setting up Thor: Ragnarok was off. It would have been better if Thor's dream dealt with an underlying guilt at leaving his people and kingdom behind, not setting up Thor 3 and Infinity War.
