Avengers: Endgame Writer Wants To Bring Back Arnim Zola
Avengers: Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely recently sat down with
Cinema Blend to discuss the film and the former revealed two villains he would like in the MCU.
"I always go back to the guy I always want to see on screen, which is MODOK," Markus explained.
"Also, part of me… it’s hard to say if he was officially destroyed, I wouldn’t mind seeing a third incarnation of Zola. Now in a robotic body. We got him from human to face on screen, I’d like him to get mobile now. I can’t say that’s going to happen, but it’d be fun."
MODOK is a villain fans have wanted to see in a live-action setting for years now but, honestly, it's hard to say how Marvel Studios could pull it off. The classic version of Arnim Zola would be great fun, though, and seeing him square off with Bucky and the new Captain America would be awesome.
The Origin Of America's Ass
In a separate interview with
SYFY WIRE, Markus and McFeely addressed the origin of
Avengers: Endgame's memorable "America's Ass" line and explain that it stemmed from Tony Stark's throwaway comment about Cap's suit. Then, Ant-Man was added to the scene, and the writers wondered if they could squeeze in some sort of pay off...however, that didn't happen until reshoots.
"It sort of grew on its own," Markus explained.
"The first thing that was there was Tony looking at Cap's terrible Avengers outfit and going, 'that suit does nothing for your ass.' That stood on its own for a while, and then Ant-Man was added to the scene, and he said, 'I think that's America's ass.' And that was the joke for a while."
"We redid the Cap on Cap fight, the ending of it, and that helped us tremendously," McFeely adds. "And then we needed to get out of that scene a little differently, and there [2012 Cap] was, slumped on the ground with his butt in the air. [Chris Evans] was certainly okay with calling attention to that outfit," McFeely said, laughing. "It wasn't his favorite."
"It's rare that you can find a joke for Captain America to tell that [is] in-character as Captain America because he doesn't do a lot of non-sequitur smart remarks," Markus concludes. "So I think Chris is happy when you can get something funny that stays in the Cap wheelhouse."
When Are We Getting Another Avengers: Endgame?
Avengers: Endgame marked the end of an epic ten year journey for the MCU but with no movie for Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Phase 4, fans are wondering when the next team-up is coming.
Well, during a chat with
Cinema Blend, producer Trinh Tran made it clear that they're busy expanding this shared world for now and it could be a long wait before another huge event movie.
"Our focus right now is to make sure that the titles that we’ve released in Phase 4… obviously those stories are going to be new, exciting, different and can connect with the audience like the other movies have been. Over 10 years ago, it’s always been our dream to get to Infinity War and Endgame level. We didn’t know obviously where that was going to go at the start of the studio, but it’s incredible to know that we were able to accomplish that.
"Now it’d be amazing if we could get to that level 10 years later, so I think it’s a dream to continue doing that and build upon the MCU and the connective tissue that we have. And now with obviously our Disney+ side and the shows and how our characters are venturing into that world and how that’s gonna lead to the future and more franchises and more stories and more properties and their connective tissue to the rest of the MCU, it would be amazing to do something like this 10 years later.
That...well, that is going to be a long wait!
New Eternals Set Photos
These photos don't reveal too much about
Eternals but they do shed some light on the sort of ancient settings we can expect to see in the movie. It's been said that the team's big screen debut will span thousands of years, making it perhaps the most ambitious MCU tale we've seen to date.
Alternate Iron Man Death Scenes
Iron Man's death in
Avengers: Endgame is nothing short of iconic but according to editor Jeff Ford, a lot of alternate versions ended up on the cutting room floor.
"When we were putting together the end of the movie, when we shot Tony’s last moment in the first round, we shot a bunch of different options," he tells
Collider.
"Robert had different ideas… We give him space to do that."
"Joe and Anthony are great about improv. We shot a run of different performances for that last moment. Some of them were crazy. Some of them we would never have used," Ford explained.
He went on to say that his favourite version featured Thanos and Iron Man saying nothing and instead exchanging just a knowing glance. However, it was decided that the Mad Titan needed that theme of inevitability to continue through the entire movie, hence why things ended the way they did.
Thor: Love And Thunder Is Coming To America
We know that
Thor: Love and Thunder will once again shoot in Australia (as will
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) but a new report from
HN Entertainment reveals that the production will also film some scenes in America. Bear in mind that
Thor: Ragnarok did the same thing, something which meant we got to see Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston in New York City.
It remains to be seen whether the God of Thunder will return to the Big Apple in this movie but it would certainly make sense, especially if Jane Foster will reveal herself to the world as Thor!
Doctor Sleep Director Defends Marvel Movies
We recently learned that
Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan met with Warner Bros. about a DC Comics movie and he's clearly a fan of superheroes in general as he's now defending Marvel Studios!
"Martin Scorsese once said that movies are like dreams," he says in the video above.
"You cannot say that one dream is better or more authentic than another. I believe that cinema embodies many different views." We think that's a sentiment all comic book fans can get behind!
