AVENGERS: ENDGAME - Take A Much Closer Look At Captain America's Destroyed Shield

In Avengers: Endgame, Thanos used his powerful sword to shatter Captain America's iconic shield and now Marvel Studios prop master Russell Bobbit has shared a video offering a detailed look at that...

Avengers: Endgame featured a lot of surprises and a long list of memorable moments and the destruction of Captain America's shield at the hands of Thanos definitely fits into both categories.

In the Infinity Gauntlet comic book, the Mad Titan breaks it with his bare hands but the Russo Brothers took things down a different route by having the villain use that massive sword of his to break it into pieces. In that moment, it felt like Steve Rogers was well and truly done for and it was genuinely shocking to see the shield left in bits.

Now, Marvel Studios Prop Master Russell Bobbitt has shared a much closer look at the remains of the shield from Avengers: Endgame and, as you can see, the detail here is phenomenal.

Captain America's shield is already one of the most sought after props from the Marvel Cinematic Universe but you have top hope that this version is released somewhere down the line as it would make for a great display piece and a reminder of one of this shared world's most epic battles.

Captain America statue featuring Mjolnir and the broken shield!

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has said that his entire career was leading up to the "On Your Left" sequence in Avengers: Endgame and it's easy to see why; all those heroes assembling really does feel like the culmination of everything we've seen happen in the MCU over the past ten years.

The "Avengers Assemble" moment is one fans have been hoping to see on the big screen for years now and there are plenty of times it could have happened (it was even teased at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron). However, Marvel Studios was better off waiting as it felt earned in this moment.

As for Steve Rogers being able to lift Mjolnir, that too was teased back in 2015 but it seemed at the time that Captain America was only worthy enough to shift it a little bit. Well, since then, we've learned that he was only pretending to be unable to wield Mjolnir so he could protect Thor's feelings!

What was really cool about Steve using Mjolnir was the fact he could summon lightning (bear in mind that the hammer's inscription promises that whoever's is worthy enough to lift it is also worth of unleashing Thor's powers). The visual of Cap doing so won't soon be forgotten.

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve travels back in time to return Mjolnir to its rightful place in history. That is, of course, the events of Thor: The Dark World and it's interesting to wonder what he might have gotten up to in Asgard when he returned both that and the Aether after Rocket managed to retrieve it from Jane Foster.

All of the hero's travels through time remain a mystery to us right now and something tells me that Marvel Studios could choose to explore this somewhere down the line. That would involve Chris Evans reprising the role but I'm sure Disney would offer him a handsome sum to play Captain America on their streaming service!

Something which has been semi-confimed, though, is the fact Chris Evans will voice the Star Spangled superhero in the What If? animated series. While that was originally billed as a take on the classic comics, something tells me it could explore the ramifications of The Avengers' trip through time.

The detailing on Chris Evans' face here is very impressive but you would expect that to be the case when the statue will set  you back nearly $800! Personally, I was really please to see Captain America's mask remain on during the final battle (unlike Age of Ultron).

Going back to Captain America's future, we now know that Sam Wilson (a.k.a. The Falcon) will inherit the mantle and that's a plot thread that will presumably play out in the Disney+ series he will share with The Winter Soldier. The big question, though, is will we see more of Old Man Steve Rogers?

When he presented Sam with a new shield, it was clearly a totally different one and not simply a repaired version of the one that was shattered by Thanos. The prevailing theory is that Steve made that in the timeline he lived his life out with Peggy Carter in because his shield was obviously frozen in ice alongside himself (time-travel is weird).

There's been some disappointment that Bucky isn't the new Captain America but given the way he's been handled in the MCU, it's easy to see why The Falcon was the more logical option. The big costume reveal showing him suited up as Captain America could very well end up breaking the internet when it comes our way!

The Falcon wont just be a small screen Captain America, of course, because while that transformation looks set to play out on Disney+, Kevin Feige has confirmed that the actions of these characters in these shows will be reflected on the big screen as well. In other words, the new Cap will appear in the movies too!

As a set, these three look truly phenomenal. Thor is rocking his badass, Viking-inspired look and Iron Man is wearing his comic book armour (a fitting choice for his final appearance in the MCU). Unfortunately, if Captain America is $800, you can imagine how much it would cost you to own the entire set...and Thanos!

What do you guys think about this Avengers: Endgame statue from Iron Studios? Worth the money or simply too much for your average collector? As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments section down  below!

Cool statue, now make one of Tony with the infinity stones when he snaps

Tony's vision of the future on Age of Ultron is surprisingly spot on for Endgame..not 100% obviously, but not far off.

Cap's broken shield, Black Widow dead, Hawkeye still alive, Steve asking Tony why he didn't save them all.... It makes for a much more powerful viewing in retrospect now.

@528491 -

One of my favorite things about ENDGAME is how it really leans into so much of the meat and potatoes of AGE OF ULTRON. Thematically, they have just as strong of a connection as ENDGAME does to INFINITY WAR in many ways

@528491 - Hawkeye was still alive in Tony's vision??

@528491 - All of the visions in AoU actually came true, or are at least touched upon in Infinity War/Endgame. Tony's vision of everyone defeated, Steve's vision of staying with Peggy, Widow's vision of feeling like she doesn't belong, and Thor's vision of his people dead.

@PeterCipher - Yea, one of the things that doesn't make complete and total sense in AoU is the notion that Tony truly needed alien A.I. to manage his security system. I'm sure Friday could've handled a more streamlined, slightly less intuitive system to good effect.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 -

Good point, also Tony's speech to Fury about him not being the one who died being the part that bothered him most ended up foreshadowing his sacrifice

@OmegaDaGrodd - Yeah, I rewatched that scene recently. There's a lot of small little details like that in Age of Ultron that I forgot about.

Interesting prop, but how it's broken does not really work for Endgame where pieces were chipped away by Thanos repeatedly hitting it.

Chances are they were going to have the shield broken by Thanos when he hit it with Mjolnir towards Thanos - but realised that would interrupt the flow of the scene. Would make sense considering we dont see the shield getting damaged when Thanos is hitting it, we just see the outcome.

@Scarilian - How the shield is broken on this picture is EXACTLY how Thanos chips pieces away from it in the film.

He hits the shield several times, causing pieces to fly away (which you can see and are the below 2 smaller pieces), leaving only the upper half of the shield intact (the upper piece on the picture) when Cap is beat down on the ground.

Wait, I forget, how is this repaired at the end of the movie again?

@Nightwing1015 - its not. Cap grabs the same shield from another timeline

@Vigor - So...is that not confirmation that Cap lived his life in an alternate timeline. Why is this debated among fans at all? Some people claim he was alive in the prime MCU timeline the whole time.

@Nightwing1015 - lm for the alt universe idea but there’s a number of ways he could’ve gotten a new shield in the regular universe:

Melted and reforged it or
T’challa repaired / gave him a new one
Vigor

@Nightwing1015 - yeah idk why that's being debated. Probably people who didn't pay attention to the movie and want to believe what they want to believe

"A meteorite made of vibranium...the strongest substance in the universe"

So, is Thanos' sword made of vibranium too or something?
campblood
campblood - 6/30/2019, 6:53 AM
@Super12 - the universe is a big place other metals exist out there some might be harder . Also the fact that thanos’ sword could be vibranium with a stronger temper. If me and you clashed swords made from the same metal but mine had the better tempering then mine would either cut into your or snap it in half because yours would be either to soft or to brittle

@campblood - I mean Thanos probably had his sword forged by some space dwarves whereas cap is made by earth dudes

Maybe Cap should have gotten made in adamantium

Nice prop. Hopefully The Eternals movie hints at some strong metal alloy that low key connects to Thanos' double-edged sword from here.

How did that double edge sword break the shield but Thor’s hammer couldn’t?
