In recent years, the summer blockbuster season has become less important because movies like Black Panther and Deadpool have broken box office records in months like February, while the likes of Thor: Ragnarok and Star Wars: The Last Jedi prove that a prime May/June/July/August slot isn't a must.
This summer is going to be a good one, though, and we've now decided to break down every big release on its way between now and the end of August which you guys should be making a priority.
Some of these you may already know plenty about, while others could have flown under your radar but you'll want to start thinking about booking your tickets for these as soon as you possibly can. So, to check out this list in full, all you guys need to do is click on either one of the buttons below.
Avengers: Infinity War - April 27th
The biggest Marvel Studios movie ever, Avengers: Infinity War is going to be the culmination of a decade's worth of storytelling which began with Iron Man in 2008. Pairing up Earth's Mightiest Heroes with the Guardians of the Galaxy for them to do battle with Thanos, this release is shrouded in secrecy and with Avengers 4 set to be a totally different movie, we should be prepared for major surprises.
Deadpool 2 - May 18th
David Leitch's plan for this sequel is clearly to go bigger and better and while there's a chance that could be to the movie's detriment, the signs are all pointing to the Merc with the Mouth's battle with Cable being a great deal of fun. With the Fox/Disney deal looming, there's a good chance this will be the final Deadpool movie for quite some time and that alone could make this a definite must-see.
Solo: A Star Wars Story - May 25th
Just five months after the release of the divisive Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we're returning to a Galaxy Far, Far Away with Solo: A Star Wars Story. Telling Han's origin story, the spinoff is either going to be great or a total disappointment; it's hard to say given all that drama behind the scenes! Right now, though, things are looking good for this one and it could wind up surprising us all in some major ways.
Ocean's 8 - June 8th
It's been over a decade since the George Clooney led Ocean's trilogy wrapped up and now it's Danny Ocean's sister's turn to get in on the action. Featuring an incredible female cast made up of names like Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, and Helena Bonham Carter, the story will revolve around them attempting to pull off a jewel heist in New York. Matt Damon is expected to reprise his role too.
Incredibles 2 - June 15th
Pixar knocked our socks off with Coco and all eyes are now on Incredibles 2 to deliver. After all, it's a sequel to one of the studio's most beloved movies and given how vastly more popular superhero movies are these days, the animated feature will need to do a lot to stand out from the crowd in a busy summer. With Brad Bird at the helm, though, there's no reason to assume it won't succeed.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kindom - June 22nd
Jurassic World is one of the biggest movies of all-time in terms of box office takings but it wasn't overly imaginative and seeing as J. A. Bayona is a vastly superior filmmaker to Colin Trevorrow, the sequel will more than likely be a massive improvement. Half disaster movie, half horror movie, Fallen Kingdom looks set to deliver something for everyone but will it avoid its predecessor's pitfalls?
Ant-Man And The Wasp - July 8th
The third and final Marvel Cinematic Universe movie set for release in 2018, Ant-Man and The Wasp clearly won't have the same ramifications as Avengers: Infinity War but it's shaping up to be a fun adventure for Scott Lang and company. Simply seeing how it fits into this world's timeline is intriguing enough but throw in the return of the original Wasp and this will almost certainly be another winner.
Skyscraper - July 13th
Rampage may not have been somewhat disappointing but it's still the best-reviewed video game movie of all-time and has exceeded expectations at the international box office. Next up for Dwayne Johnson is another over the top action flick where he plays a security expert with a prosthetic leg who will have to rescue his family from a burning building which has been taken over by terrorists.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout - July 27th
Tom Cruise returns as Ethan Hunt for another instalment of the long-running franchise which will see the actor perform another series of crazy stunts. Throw in the fact that Justice League star Henry Cavill is playing an MI6 agent (and seemingly the movie's villain) and this one promises to be the summer's best action blockbuster especially with director Christoper McQuarrie once again at the helm.
Teen Titans Go! to the Movies - July 27th
Cartoon Network's Teen Titans Go! is primarily aimed at children but the tongue in cheek jokes and pop culture references mean it appeals to older fans as well and this big screen spinoff definitely looks like it has the potential to be the fun DC Comics movie we need. It likely won't be up there with something like The LEGO Movie, of course, but it could still be well worth keeping an eye on this summer.
Christopher Robin - August 3rd
If you've ever been a fan of Disney during your life, the first trailer for Christoper Robin probably hit you right in the feels! Seeing that photorealistic Winnie the Pooh chatting with an older Christopher was enough to give anyone chills and we're now all eagerly anticipating seeing the likes of Tigger and Eeyore in live-action. Expect this to be another hit for Disney to finish off the blockbuster season.
The Meg - August 10th
This bizarre-looking action movie has been in development since the 1990s and it will feature action star Jason Statham playing a diver who is tasked with rescuing a submarine from a gigantic prehistoric Megalodon shark. The Meg will probably be really trashy but that won't stop it from being good fun and what little we've seen from this one definitely points to it being a fun time at the theater.
