AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Star Chris Pratt Shares Some Surprising Stories About Working With Robert Downey Jr.

Avengers: Infinity War is going to bring together Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy to do battle with Thanos and that alone is reason enough to be excited about Marvel Studios' next movie. During a recent chat with Empire Magazine, Chris Pratt was asked about working alongside Robert Downey Jr. and shared some very interesting insight into how the actor conducts himself.

While you might think Downey keeps himself to himself and stays in his massive trailer between takes, it turns out that he's willing to do anything and everything to help his fellow actors and went Pratt was in need, the Iron Man star was quick to give him a helping hand on the set of Avengers: Infinity War

"Man, he set a really amazing tone. He's a bit like Tony Stark himself. I think a lot of what makes Tony Stark are the same qualities that make Downey great. I think Downey is about as rich as Tony Stark now. [Laughs] He really takes care of the actors around him in a way I've never seen before. I was a little under the weather and pushing really hard on the days I was working. He came up to me and said, 'You doing alright?' I said, 'Yeah, I've got a little sore throat.' Within ten minutes there was a person here giving me all these herbs and taking care of me. He offered me the use of his trailer where I could sit down and use some of his hi-tech healing gadgets. It was amazing. I'm living my best life."

Pratt went on to reveal that he actually heard from Downey when he was first cast as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy and it's something which has had a significant impact on him moving forward.

"When I first arrived in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Downey was the first to call and tell me, 'Hey man, welcome. If there's anything you need, I will help. There are so few people on the planet who are going through what you're going through right now. I have, so I'm here. I'll always answer the phone.' I feel completely empowered to pay it forward with Tom or Chadwick. I'm not saying that I'm senior to them, other than I got that experience of opening a movie with Marvel and being along for the ride. Now I just really feel compelled to offer them, even if it's a fraction of what Downey was able to offer me, and just say, 'Anything you need, you let me know.'"

So, there you have it, a look into what it's like working alongside the man who first brought Iron Man to life back in 2008! The lines between Tony Stark and Robert Downey Jr. have clearly blurred as the years have passed and the actor is definitely a different man to what he was back in the 1990s. Holy hell boys. Watched Iron Man 2008 last night. Hadn't seen it in years, probably gonna try and watch most of the MCU before Infinity. That movie man. Reminded me how lucky we are that they took the risk of choosing RDJ at that point in his life/career. Huge risk, but I pictured like Tom Cruise or someone in that role and it really could have derailed everything we've come to know today. That first movie and Civil War show the damaged and vulnerable side to his arc. Also reminded me how much more I like Terrence Howard's Rhodey. Cheadle is so much more boring by comparison for me. Howard seemed more natural and emotionally interesting. Just a great film, tons of symbolism when he's in the middle east with the destruction of his weapons, Yensin, Obediah recreating his desert escape suit prototype. Great movie. Left me in awe of how far it's all come and how close Tony may be to death in Infinity War.

@SpideyPuffsMJ - amazes me Everytime I watch that movie. So much could have gone wrong but it was a classic. It was also very different in tone from previous superhero movies. It really made people see what superheroes could be when YOU STICK TO SOURCE MATERIAL AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. No shoehorning grittiness where it's not needed, no adding giant spiders or goofy sidekicks. Do what worked already in the comics! It's already stood the test of time! Why mess with it??? Respect those cartoons funny books, as you call them, and don't think you know better than the source

@SpideyPuffsMJ - Yeah Howard and RDJ had way better chemistry than Cheadle and RDJ. Even now after they've been in 3 or 4 of the movies together.

All this is a testament of Marvel's type of management and especially Feige's.

It seems the whole organisation operates with very few people who are all dedicated cbm fans, supportive with each other and friends.

They have instill the same friendly, cooperative environment where most actors on set feel safe and appreciated as persons not just as valuable assets.

@Jazzy4 - And also, Feige picks his battles. I noticed James Gunn say he got his way on a few things over Feige on Guardians 1. But Feige was adamant later on that Perlmutter needed to be kicked out in order to deliver a quality product. I am so going to read Feige book one day when he writes one of course lol

I'm such a sucker for this stuff, and I hope it's as true and widespread as I think it is.

Disney is making a buttload of money off these movies, so there's no reason to start being cheapskates with the cast. Feige seems to have a good sense of people who will fit with the ensemble on a personal and professional level. All accounts of the main cast are that they all seem to get along and are on the same page. It just sounds like a sustained positive environment in an industry where relationships are so often transient and contentious.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to leave it, to be honest. Maybe slow down a bit, branch out between Marvel films, but this studio seems like it's got a once-in-a-generation thing going that would be hard to walk away from.

For Iron-Man 4 we need the real Mandarin with the 10 Rings

Honestly, I've always found it to be incredibly remarkable how Downey reshaped his life. Dude was a wreck.

I think he is so good as Iron Man, due to him having had to deal with many of the emotional repercussions that are essential to Tony Stark's character: the pride from his fame leading to a tragic fall, his past addiction ruining his life, his heroic rise to meet the challenge. For RDJ, Iron Man was the second chance to make right of past mistakes.

He IS the guy

It’s pretty amazing that it seems like almost everyone in the Avengers team gets along super well and really since Joss brought everyone together in the first movie the MCU has been pretty tight knit and friendly it seems

It's very easy to be happy when you make $40 Million per film plus a share of the profits.
