Check Out These Unusual Japanese Character Posters For AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Showcasing, if not spoiling, Hawkeye's family as well as Black Widow's romance with Bruce Banner, four character posters have surfaced for the upcoming Japanese release of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Given Japan won't be getting Avengers: Age of Ultron until the fourth of July, marketing for the Marvel sequel is still going strong in the island nation. And following the spoiler-filled international trailer, which seemingly promoted a movie different from the one that's currently in theaters everywhere else, four Japanese character posters have been released online. While one poster sees Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) getting close, another features Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) hugging his kids and pregnant wife. The third poster has previously-seen images of Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) assembled, while the fourth shows Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) all alone. Check it out below!

Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure. Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision. Written and directed by Joss Whedon and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” published in 1963. Get set for an action-packed thrill ride when The Avengers return in Avengers: Age of Ultron May 1, 2015.

Japanese marketing teams have an.... Interesting taste. They're more focused on romance and faily, it appears.

Not unusual... Hawkeye was the protagonist of AOU in my opinion. And Banner/Natasha relationship created the main tone of the movie. It's all good to me.

I imagine if this team marketed the 4th transformers movie, it would focus heavily on MarkyMark's daughter and what not. [frick]ing weird, man.

Does the marketing team have an aversion to the Hulk (not Ruffalo, but the Hulk)? He's the tiniest image on the poster. Hawkeye's kids are bigger than him.

Sure it's funny to point out how different Japanese media is, but it's important to remember what is different about it. American marketing executives think splosions are what drives people to the theater, Japanese marketing executives think mushy feelings drives people to the theater. Sex appeal is different, character conflicts are different, action is different, etc.

Amazing how different two cultures can be.

@dotanuki couldbe a cultural aversion to the character. After all the hulks origins in the comics are intimately connected to the atomic bomb. Might be a little close to home.

This reminds me of the Big Hero 6 posters mainly showing Baymax hugging Hiro.

Disney knows what it's doing in Japan because they appreciate a tearjerker far more than the action.
