MTV News caught up with Chris Evans yesterday while he was making his Wondercon rounds promoting the Warner Bros comic adaptation The Losers. The question put to the recently confirmed Captain America actor was whether or not the Star Spangled Avenger will be calling the shots in Marvel's highly anticipated Avengers live action movie; which is rumored to begin filming early next year.

"I don't know if they're going to make him the boss," Evans said. "His character... He's a good guy."

"Does he [run the show]?" Evans answered quizzically. "I don't think anybody tells Downey what to do, and that's what makes [him] Downey."

The Avengers will unite heroes Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) on screen for the first time in Marvel history. Though Edward Norton (Bruce Banner/Hulk) has yet to be confirmed for the film, it is rumored that he will play an integral part in it.

This guy is good. He can talk about being Cap several times in one day but not actually say anything at all!

Thanks MultiPurposePoni.

I have one thing to say to EVANS:

go do research and read the comics!!

I still think he is the right man for the job!

Well he did just get the role only a few weeks ago. I don't expect him to answer much until filming has started.

Was that the Human Torch not knowing if Captain America was the leader of the Avengers?

Well he's sorta right isn't he? Doesn't Captian America and Iron Man have problems in the comics? There not quite best buds right? Maybe in the avengers there'll be a dispute of leadership?

There have been times when The Avengers have worked with The Fantastic Four. Has anyone thought out that possibility? Who's gonna play Johnny Storm now? Are we gonna have some Michael J Fox circa 1986 playing multiple roles on the same screen?

"How does he not know that captain america is the leader!"

i'm sure he realizes that Cap is the leader in the comics. he's jsut saying he doesn't know if the movie will be like that.

The fantastic Four movies were made by Fox, not Marvel. Marvel can't use them.

Rokrad@ Additional Bingo from me. There are a lot of issues with Cap becoming leader of the Avengers; especially in regard to Tony Stark taking him seriously as a leader. One has to wonder if Evans reacted in that way in the interview to start setting up that scenario. The disrespect because of his age and being a "newbie" from Ironman should play a role in the Avengers movie, being it has in the comics and other animated features.

Continuezero@ I think Marvel has plenty of other Avenger story lines they can pursue without having to ever worry about utilizing the Fantastic Four, even if Fox didn't have the rights to the FF.

Hi guys, been checking this site everyday for three years and thought it was about time to actually sign up.
I like the fact he doesn't know much because it gives him a fresh viewpoint of the character rather than having him being able to point out the differences between the books and the movie. I am sure there are some really young guys who may of read the ultimate's first (poor guys) and see that portrayal as the true cap, whereas Evans will see his cap as the definitive Rogers because it's all he has been exposed too.
Hopefully we will get something special like RDJ as Iron Man and I have faith Evans will take this new captain America and mould him into something spectacular.

Also we need to see winter soldier eventually
Thanks

i know right?? people are just going to point out every little detail about this guy just so they can bury him. it'll happen all the way up until the movie comes out.

I like Evan's as the Human Torch but as Cap Im still very skeptical. In every roll that I have seen Evan's in, he has always brought that Johnny Storm attitude. The attitude which made him perfect for The Human Torch. Unless he tones it down and goes in a different direction, I don't see him bringing a good Cap performance. Not the Cap attitude that I would expect or humor anyways. Cap's a different breed of hero, Evan's definitely must bring a strong sense of confidence to the table. Able to dish out orders like only cap can. I was just re-reading the Avengers Jail brake and Cap is a beast. Even shutting Spider-Man up. A task which is not an easy feat lol.

Marvel has not been letting me down, so i will trust in the judgment and hope for the best.

Iron Man was the first leader anyway. Wasn't he?

Perfect Cap casting btw!

A bit off topic, but they said they will try to make the costume more realistic, and personally I think you would have an easier task doing that with the Bucky cap costume.
Although caps war time attire from the ultimates and even reborn looks great I really cant see him not looking like a clown on the battlefield whereas the Bucky costume has a lot of black while still incorporating everything you need, making the overall look less comic book and more feature film.

Tea@ Thanks

I am so sick of hearing Evans can only be Human Torch! Like you guys just can't distinguish between the two when you see them on screen! Jesus, what did you do when watched Indiana Jones and saw Han Solo? And for anyone who says they've only seen Evans play the Johnny Storm type character hasn't seen him in Cellular, Street Kings, Push, and most importantly, Sunshine! The dude can act! I feel sorry for those people whose brain gets really confused when they see an actor in a different movie and they get all confused because they think he's the guy from a different movie.

@ capfan

welcome aboard man! i get what you're saying. but i think they can modernize Cap's costume without being too hokey. i wouldn't mind if his costume was 100% faithful, but instead of the tights and those funny boots, he should wear tactical combat pants and combat boots. thats just my idea of the most realistic way, while still keeping it classic :)

@ cyclops

thats what i've been screaming since Evans was first named. how stupid does someone have to be to go see a Captain America movie, with Evans as the star, and think he's Johnny Storm?? really, how stupid?? all the previews and posters are going to clearly say, Chris Evans is Captain America. are people really going to have THAT tough of a time??

God, why are people getting so hysterical over the fact he's not an expert on the comic books? His role as Johnny Storm was the only good thing about the FF movies and as far as I know RDJ wasnt a big Iron Man reader and can anyone think of a better Tony Stark!?

Plus, Cap wasnt the leader until Iron Man, Giant Man and The Wasp left the team and he led Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver! Hell, even in recent comic books Captain America has never really bossed Iron Man around...they've always been on equal standing in The Avengers!

capfan87: Lol, when he was in his prime a few years back he probably would have been a decent enough fit for the character if they had tried to make a movie back then! And welcome to CBM! It's good to see another Brit on here...we're taking over slowly! ;D

He's going to be playing Captain America, not a comicbook nerd that knows everything about Captain America. He wasn't really straight forward but at least he didnt try and pretend like he grew up loving comic books.
