The Real Buzz on Captain America!

We've all heard the grumblings by now; "conspiracy", "railroading", and "cherry-picking" are a number of words that come up in regards to a certain popular website rating Marvel's 'Captain America: The First Avenger'. But rather than lob attacks at a website that will never answer to any supposed tampering, I will simply report on what the fans and the industry guys are saying about Captain America. You can view these comments yourself by searching Twitter for Captain America news. The buzz may actually astound you:

Ed Brubaker (comic book writer):
Captain America movie was pretty much perfect. Ballsy, brave, fun as he'll. And Chris Evans is Steve Rogers thru and thru.

Kevin Smith(director, comic book writer):
As expected, Johnston crushed CAPTAIN AMERICA. It's elegant & fun like his ROCKETEER. Evans was an ace Rogers/Cap. AVENGERS trailer killed.

Random Tweet:
Captain America was a blast. A better GI Joe movie than GI Joe. Superhero flick crossed with Indiana Jones. Loved the old-fashioned vibe.

Edgar Wright(director):
'Captain America' is so much fun. A proper ripping yarn. Go Evans.

Jeremy Smith(movie reviewer for AICN):
CAPTAIN AMERICA is the best Marvel film since SPIDER-MAN 2, but make sure you see it in 2D. 3D does gorgeous production design a disservice.

Christy Lemire(movie critic for ABC):
Captain America is an earnest, old-fashioned action picture, and that's OK

Peter Sciretta(movie critic for Slashfilm):
I Loved Captain America. Joe Johnston hit the perfect tone, and its probably the best first part superhero film since Iron Man.

Random Tweet:
just back from CAPTAIN AMERICA...MARVEL and PARAMOUNT have done it again, ALOT of FUN!...HUGO WEAVING/RED SKULL=CINEMATIC EXCELLENCE!

Edward Lawrence(journalist):
Wow. Captain America really gives you feel of being in the 1940's. Great story & casting. Classic good & evil battle Go see.

Random Tweet
Seriously, Captain America's really great. One of my favorite super hero films.

Okay, I think you get the point. Every last Twitter comment posted in regards to seeing Captain America was positive. I'll say that again slowly. Every. Comment. Was. Positive. That's 100% satisfaction from industry pro and regular schmo alike. The real buzz on Cap is that it is a great movie and possibly one of the best CBMs of all time.

I was going to tip-toe around the matter, but screw it. Rotten Tomatoes is clearly up to something here. I didn't want to accuse them of anything, but as I was writing this and looking at all the glowing responses on Twitter, RT clearly is not meeting the consensus. Whenever there is a blatant anomaly you have to inspect it with a keen eye, and something just doesn't add up. Keep in mind RT is owned by Warner Brothers Entertainment, home of the Harry Potter films, which will have to compete with Captain America this weekend. They also own another entity, DC Comics/DC Entertainment. I won't comment further, you be the judge.

I hoping that RT is just being slow, because it actually seems like they are trying to skewer the reviews. They have omitted a lot of reviews from popular sites like AICN, Slashfim, Salon, and others in favor of penny-ante critics.

Roger Ebert gives Cap a positive review and he didn't like Thor so it may turn out to be good.

If you've got hard feelings about the whole GL thing, that's sad. Never let trolls take your joy away. Personally, I was looking forward to GL, so I was sad the movie turned out so poorly. This instance, however, is nothing like the lambasting of Green Lantern. CA has dozens of positive reviews, some of them raving. This is a bout a certain website choosing not to post those reviews. Like I said in the article, the "truth" is that CA is most likely a damn fine film. You can look for yourself.
