Batgirl star Leslie Grace, writer Christina Hodson, and directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were all on hand to tease the DC Comics movie at DC FanDome. We didn't really get any major reveals, though the filmmakers did confirm that Barbara Gordon will have red hair and wear a Batman-style cowl.
They talked a little about the casting process and fight scenes, but it sounds like it's still very early days for the HBO Max movie. As a result, we didn't get a costume reveal; however, a sneak peek can be seen in this concept art featuring the Caped Crusader watching over Gotham City.
One thing we did learn at DC FanDome is that the film will seemingly follow Barbara as she suits up as Batgirl for the first time, meaning that this is going to be an origin story for the hero.
That makes perfect sense and feels like the right direction to take Batgirl in. She's never really had much in the way of live-action screentime outside of the cheesy Batman movies in the 1990s, so the character now looks set to be reinvented for the DCEU on the small screen in a big way. There was no mention during the brief panel of J.K. Simmons' rumoured return as Jim Gordon (or Batman).
What do you guys think about this first look at Batgirl?
