Ahead of its April 24 digital release, Sony has published a sneak peek of Batman Ninja, a feature-length animated film that sends the Dark Knight to feudal Japan in a creative interpretation of the long-standing franchise. With his high-tech gadgetry rendered obsolete, Batman must rely on his intellect, fighting skills, and the help of some of his allies transported alongside him to prevent the Joker and other enemies from overtaking the country and rewriting history.

The video below is the first two minutes of the highly anticipated animated film, highlighting the moment Batman and company are transported to feudal Japan.

Batman Ninja takes a journey across the ages as Gorilla Grodd's time displacement machine transports many of Batman's worst enemies to feudal Japan - along with the Dark Knight and a few of his allies. The villains take over the forms of the feudal lords that rule the divided land, with the Joker taking the lead among the warring factions. As his traditional high-tech weaponry is exhausted almost immediately, Batman must rely on his intellect and his allies - including Catwoman and the extended Bat-family - to restore order to the land, and return to present-day Gotham City.

Batman Ninja is the creative result of three of anime's finest filmmakers: director Jumpei Mizusaki (Opening animation of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure), writer Kazuki Nakashima (Gurren Lagann), and character designer Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai). The script was rewritten for English-language distribution by award-winning screenwriters Leo Chu and Eric Garcia (Supah Ninjas, Afro Samurai). Roger Craig Smith (Batman: Arkham Origins) and Tony Hale (Veep) voice the characters of Batman and Joker, respectively, leading an impressive cast that also includes Grey Griffin as Catoman and Tara Strong as Harley Quinn.

Batman Ninja makes its digital debut on April 24, followed by the physical release of a Blu-ray/DVD/Digital combo on May 8.

@dracula - it might be goofy fun but I don't think there's any milk left for DC to try and get out of Batman anymore. He's all dried up and no matter how you flavor it, I'm tired of drinking it and seeing it. I have Bat fatigue

@DVonShakari - Well Gotham by Gaslight was pretty dame great, and luckily they have started doing other stuff, not just Batman and Justice League movies, like they were doing for a few years. I just expected way more from a Batman anime, they should have used hand drawn animation, not this crappy CGI, which japan doesnt even know how to do right yet. Nothing about this scene seems special

@DVonShakari - You may have Bat fatigue but many people do not, hence why they keep making more animated shows, movies, and comics surrounding Batman.

And I have to say I was impressed with Gaslight this year and this is something totally different.

@JoeMomma29 - nope. People are fatigued with Batman. They only keep making the animated Batman movies is because they know that they'll sell. But give it another Bat-movie or two and you'll see how sick people are becoming with Batman. But you're the JoeMomma who likes Batman and you're a very patient and forgiving man.

@DVonShakari - Fatigue for all Superhero content is setting in, Audiences still are not as fatigued with Batman as they are with SpiderMan or Iron Man, but the danger is there, the class of Nolan's Dark Knight is till relevant to film fans, but rumour mongering websites are causing serious fatigue all round. I personally can't wait for Infinity War and These Star Wars sequels to end, need something new, this main page has Batman, Avengers, Star Wars, Starlord, if you clicked on it five years ago it'd look the exact same.

Does he call her Catwoman? Sounded silly. I thought he always used Selina? Animation was interesting.

@MarvelousMarty - I am pretty sure he only calls her Selina when they are alone, but in a setting where there are other people or in this case a talking gorilla he uses Catwoman.
