Faith in The Dark Knight Rises

Faith in The Dark Knight Rises

Why I have faith in this movie, despite the mixed reaction of the prologue

Well by now everyones seen the prologue, they may have even seen the epic trailer that was ever so kindly bootlegged onto the internet and some people are going nuts, while others are as cold as Mr. Freeze. I think it was going to be hard to match what was done with The Dark Knight ever since the passing of Mr. Ledger however TDKR could possibly be the biggest and baddest film seen in cinema.

Now some of you here are probably getting your avengers undies in a bunch, but to tell you the truth, I don't really have the biggest expectations for The Avengers. I mean look at Iron Man... great movie, Incredible hulk... also great movie, but by the time Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America came, it honestly felt like a cookie cutter movie that was just thrown together for the sake of being thrown together. I honestly know in my heart that Avengers will also be a cookie cutter movie thrown together with no heart, and no story. TDKR however has a brilliant story to tell and there is one quote from the bootlegged trailer that makes me relieved:

"When Gotham is in ashes, you will have my permission to die."

That alone just tells me that this battle will be a different battle, it won't be a battle against someone who has nothing to lose, and it won't be a battle about fighting some fluff character just to be fighting him, however the conflict between someone who is highly motivated to see your downfall and has no problems making you suffer through it and making sure that you are indeed "broken" and watching as your world disappears. This movie will have an unreal story... something the past few marvel movies have lacked, and it will also bring themes that will make us think after the movie is done. As for the Avengers, it will be a good movie, make a few dollars, and sell a ton of merchandise at the Disney store... it is what it is.

I like movies that make me think, that put me right there but thats just me and I am OCD that way so whatever. So feel free to flame me, or not, I could care less, but I do encourage you all to think outside the box and not what Disney is jamming up our asses.

I like your article and I agree with your point of having to think outside the box. A good movie is one that continues even after the end credits roll. A good movie make you reflect on what you just saw and makes you associate events from the film to real life social issues. Good movies make you think and reflect.

A lot of movies nowadays are simply made for entertainment purposes, simply to stimulate the "entertainment hormone" in your brain. These movies usually lack a deeper meanning and those movies end when the end credits roll, and don't make you think.

At first, I was a bit disappointed at TDKR prologue, but the more I reflected about it, the better it got. Even thought it was only 6 minutes, a few themes were being addressed such as having "blind faith" in someone (the merc falling with the plane).

Anyways, I'm confident that TDKR will be amazing and will continue after the credits roll in the form of mental reflection.

I know that the TDKR will be epic. Nolan will wrap up the saga in style and I would love to say that that would be that. However I hear rumor that WB wants to do a reboot on the DK to keep the licencing rights to the title.I think they should let the series gather dust for 10-15 years before re addressing the issue. Who knows who the next Nolan will be? As for Disney dont get me started. They like to squeeze every last dime out of any product they pickup off the street. They will not put any "heart&soul" into the Marvel works like they would a Pixar production.

Umm the reaction was like 40 positive to 1 negative, there was no mixed reaction.

reaction ratio* At actual IMAX theaters (checked out Ghost Protocol tonight), it was like 300 to 0. People are going to bitch no matter what. The great thing is, I like these movies and that's all I care about.

Here's a great idea... Let's write an article about the 'mixed reactions' that TDKR's prologue apparently got (where in actuality feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with the only mere niggle being Bane's near inaudible voice, which most of us found fine anyway and will even be fixed in post-production - AKA - RIGHT NOW!) with the sole intention of the article to actually go off on a tangent, with the main objective of bashing a highly anticipated blockbuster of equal proportions, just for the purpose of starting a fight.

Oh wait...

Btw, i'm not just a Marvel fanboy whining. I was at the IMAX screening of the prologue on Wednesday. I'm slowly getting more psyched for TDKR than The Avengers (which i'm suprised about) and I believe TDKR will be the overall smarter and more rewarding experience, story-wise. That doesn't mean I should condone this kind of unecessary article on here. Express these kind of thoughts on the comments, like I am here, but if I were to dedicate this comment to an ENTIRE article, i'd just feel like a total douche.

Its Funny How Christian Bale As Batman Bruce Wayne In Batman Begins Was A Star At The Time People Couldnt Wait Till The Next Movies Because They Knew They Had A Bad Ass Bruce Wayne Batman Than Heath Ledger Camed In In The Dark Knight And Stole All The Spot Light I Know Nolan Are Only Going To Give Bruce Wayne Back His SoptLight And Go Deeper Into The Story In This Movie. You Can Feel It Thru The Trailer.

TDKR will make a butt load of money regardless of whether it's a good movie or not simply because it's a follow up to TDK and it's the end of Nolan/Bale's Batman. Personally, I am not impressed with Bale as Batman or what I've seen for TDKR, so my expectations are low but I'm likely to see it.

This is a terrible writeup. Put some thought into your prose and actually have facts to back up your statements.

"I honestly know in my heart that Avengers will also be a cookie cutter movie thrown together with no heart, and no story."

How do you know this? Your heart knows this? Also, good job playing into the "you can't like both AVENGERS and TDKR". Wake up. This is a ridiculous post and a poorly-written waste of time.

@Griffy-- I see where you wanted to go with this, but I think bringing AVENGERS into it was unneeded. For a lot of us, there's no divide. I will see both of the movies, and one has nothing to do with the other besides being comic book characters and being released the same summer (months in difference). I would much rather read a passionate, smart argument from you as to why we should all just shut up and wait for the actual movie before flaming it based on early footage.

From the title of the article i thought it was about the high hopes for TDKR based on the things we have seen so far but its just a comparison between TDKR and The Avengers. Just uncalled for.

My heart knows that Buffy,Angel and Firefly were amazing shows, with great writing and emphasis on relationships. Who created those shows? oh yeah, its the guy who's directing/writing Avengers.
Nolan can make an amazing movie. the critics will gush, it was sell a gazillion copies. But when Hulk loses his shit for the first time and Iron Man messes his suit, thats well worth the price of admission.

If there is one thing in which i don't have faith in is The Avengers's marketing. So far it has been awfull compared to TDKR's.

@Griffy....I understand where you are coming from comparing what you expect to see from TDKR and the Avengers films. It could be from what we are seeing from each camp as far as publicity for their respective films. TDKR certainly seems the more cerebral film, even though it is a Superhero film, but this is what Nolan brings to the table as a director. It's his style, he takes this realistic and dark approach to Batman, which is perfect for this character. I am also looking forward to Avengers but I get a different feeling as to what I will see. As long as it's well done and entertaining, then great I'll be happy with it. If it gives me and others something to think about and take with me then even that much better. Good article, you seem to have struck a nerve with some people. Kudos.

Hahahaha! Of course you know you're 100% right even though we'll all go and see the Avengers as a light entertainment supporting Disney film to the main anticipated film called TDKR. Anyone thinking differently to the outcome is seriously deluding themselves. Nice write up by the way.

I think it's a foregone conclusion that The Dark Knight Rises is gonna destroy The Avengers, not because I'm someone who prefers DC over Marvel (I actually don't have a preference when it comes to that), but because one film is being helmed by one of the greatest director's of this generation, and the other by a man responsible for the endless tat that was Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

'Nuff said.

When you go around making statements like "The Dark Knight Rises WILL..." or "The Avengers WILL..." about movies that aren't even complete/released yet, you're just asking everyone to "flame you" (which I still don't quite know what that means). Do us all a favor and don't make claims about things you can't possibly know. It gives the rest of us sensible fanboys a bad name.

On the contrary my friend, the reactions were quite positive.
"Critical reaction to the prologue was positive, with one critic commenting that "no one gets to make a film on this kind of scale anymore. Except for Christopher Nolan"
