Here are some of the main excerpts from the report over at Broadway World. For even more details, be sure to read the whole thing over at their site by following the link at the bottom of this article.

Opening in Manchester on 20th July 2011 and visiting Newcastle, Glasgow, Sheffield, Birmingham, London, Liverpool, Nottingham, Dublin and Belfast, tickets for BATMAN LIVE go on sale on Friday 12th November 2010. BATMAN LIVE is a visually stunning production, complete with a brand new original storyline.

The live show will feature Batman, his trusty counterpart Robin, tireless butler Alfred and a host of other favourite Batman characters, including Villains such as The Joker, The Riddler, Catwoman and The Penguin. The story will take place in several settings from the famed DC Comics stories, including Gotham City, Wayne Manor, the Batcave and Arkham Asylum.

"With the touring BATMAN LIVE show, we're bringing Batman's adventures to live audiences for the very first time," said Geoff Johns, Chief Creative Officer, DC Entertainment. "The idea that we're doing it with a production team this talented and with this much passion is thrilling."

"When a character has as wide an audience and as rich a history as Batman, it's truly exciting to see him introduced into an all-new storytelling medium," says Jim Lee, Co-Publisher, DC Comics. "BATMAN LIVE will bring a completely new experience to fans of the character - it's great to be able to give them something they haven't seen before."

"Batman is one of the most iconic and recognizable brands in the world," said Brad Globe, President, Warner Bros. Consumer Products. "For the very first time, we are bringing the world of Batman to life in a live show. And the fact that we are doing it within arena-sized venues is sure to be a thrill for audiences of all ages."

"BATMAN LIVE will be a totally unique experience. This is not a musical but a high quality live show with a thrilling Batman story, filled with action, that will appeal to adults, teenagers and families," said Nick Grace. "Batman is more than a comic book character, he's a cultural phenomenon and we are proud to have this opportunity to be involved with one of the most popular DC Super Heroes in the world today."

BATMAN LIVE is based on an original story being created exclusively for the show.

Thank God it's not a musical! I'm not sure about you guys, but I think that this sounds fantastic. With Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark featuring some truly awful looking costumes and being delayed yet again, it looks like 2011 will be DC's year in terms of live entertainment! Would you go and see this? Be sure to share your thoughts on this news in the usual place!

@Sandman101 Thats the impression I got the first time I read about this a while ago. I loved the stunt shows! You`ll be surprised at the number of Batman fans that have never seen one. Heres a link to the one I saw when i was a little kid-

Now granted it seems corny but seeing the live choreography and real people bring our favorite characters to life is awesome!

if any of you have watched a live performance you probably realize how extreamly cool this could be!!being children of the television age, most of us have never felt the truly awsome feeling of live actors performing on stage..theres really nothing like it! we need some vaudvillian esq type things like this! lets just hope its a good production cuz this could be a big hit or miss!

@deadpool72

Have you even seen a musical? The way you describe it sounds like you've probably never stepped foot into a broadway show. Musicals today have so much range and they go far beyond the scope of just your typical "showtunes." Just look at Sweeny Todd, Phantom of the Opera, and Repo!
Musicals today feature so much more than just singing and dancing. With a show like Spider-Man, the choreography is likely to encompass amazing stunts and acrobatics along with some outstanding special effects and an amazing set design to make it a truly spectacular experience.

I'm sorry, but Batman Live sounds like it's cheap and made for little kids. I don't expect this to be a much grander experience than Batman on Ice.

So it's not a musical but it'll be on stage with an original story. This may be the first ever comic book play!

I am sure this will be an exciting show. Same thing for the Spider-man one if they really push the wire boundaries.

But...

I just had to laugh when I read this above...

"...him introduced into an all-new storytelling medium..."

The storytelling part of this show will be the most bland and generic Batman ever. Lee is going Hollywood. I have nothing against them doing these sorts of things but at the same time they do bother me a little.

After Burton's Batman was so successful they started work on a Batman musical. Jim Steinman was writing the songs.
