Variety had previously reported the name of the character that Matthew Modine would be playing, but now we have a bit more to go on. Showbiz 411 report..

Batman's Dark Knight Rises: Matthew Modine is playing Nixon "a politician and a key villain"

It's just in tweet form for now, so no more details are currently known. But we will update if and when we get any more information. Lets assume we won't though, has a Batman villain named Nixon popped up in the comics at any time? Not to my knowledge anyway, but I missed out on a few arcs over the years I'm sure! Also, this makes how many villains exactly? There has been a surge in casting for this movie lately, with some feeling that Nolan may be over stuffing his final Batman film. Hey, In Nolan I/we trust, but it's also a valid concern. What do you think?

Update: Bit of info from Mark V. He has found that there is indeed a character called Nixon in Batman mythology..

Former Two-Face henchman who became one of Harley Quinn's Quinntets.

Nixon (or Nix as Harley liked to call him) was a fairly loyal, if not begrudging, member of Harley's Quinntets. However, he eventually became fed up with Harley's schemes and attempted to kill her and take control of her gang, which he felt could run Gotham without her as their leader. Harley ended up killing him by jamming explosive chewing gum into his gun.

Hmm. I think it's safe enough to assume that this is a different Nixon! But there you go, interesting nonetheless.

The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freman and Joseph Gordon Levitt and will be released July 20th, 2012.

waiting on the eventual Nolan lover to say "in nolan we trust." Fags.

Or the eventual stupid ass comment that says he's probably playing Robin, or since he looks kind of like Aaron Echhart, so maybe he's playing Harvey in a flashback. fags.

He'll be playing a villian like the Chechan was a villian, or Wertz or Ramirez or the bank Manager or Zsaz or Gambol or any number of the minor characters that were villians. They're just dishing out the dough to get some more clamor for the movie, they're chasing Avatar with this one. We'll probably see DeNiro Pacino Duvall Nicholson and Walken as "mob bosses" who do little more than sit in the background playing poker.

Bring it

Probably just a new Gotham Politician that wants to make his name apprehending Batman by accusing him of the events of the last movie, what's her name's death, etc. But he will probably be corrupt and working for Talia or something.

@TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY

actually Nolan can do this cause his a solid film maker and writter. Zack Snyder is only good with style but his still not a solid director and writter.

so yes In Nolan We Trust

I don't think there's too many villains. TDK proved that, if done right, you can balance many villains & still make their individual storylines coherent.
That being said, I would assume that Bane is the main badguy, Catwoman is a sideline character & the rest of the villains will only have a short amount of screen time.

@TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY Are you honestly saying you don't see the difference between those two directors?

Found this online:

Former Two-Face henchman who became one of Harley Quinn's Quinntets.

Nixon (or Nix as Harley liked to call him) was a fairly loyal, if not begrudging, member of Harley's Quinntets. However, he eventually became fed up with Harley's schemes and attempted to kill her and take control of her gang, which he felt could run Gotham without her as their leader. Harley ended up killing him by jamming explosive chewing gum into his gun.

When Harley ended up dying and being sent to Hell, she was re-united with Nix and the rest of the Quinntets, who had been stuck in an infinite loop of attempting to survive a SWAT team assault led by the deceased and demonically-appointed Detective Pettit. Despite the hopelessness of the situation, Harley refused to stay in Hell, and so she rallied her Quinntets and sought to have them all escape Hell. After several failed attempts, Harley and her team manage to reach the River Styx and nearly escaped Hell. Unfortunately, they were being pursued by the Hell-enforcer, Ulysses Highwater, who ended up killing them and forcing them to start over once again.

Although Harley managed to escape Hell eventually, it's presumed that Nixon is still there.

@RorMachine

why are u concern RorMachine remember Nolan used so many different actors who are villains in his movie. remember TDKR had Eric Roberts, Michael Jai White, Ritchie Coster, Ng Chin Han all played bad guys. maybe they aint major villain like The Joker but they still filler villains overall. Matthew Modine just going to be a filler villain for TDKR.

Is there still an outside possibility that we could get Robin Williams as Hugo Strange? Modine will probably be just a corrupt politician but that is that. Any news on filming locations on Glasgow as somebody has posted a picture on BOF!! Has filming started and for how long?

James Gandolfini for Bullock & Terry Crews for Killer Croc!!!
