Batman: 3 - Further along than we thought?

Batman: 3 - Further along than we thought?

There is more going on behind the scenes than we know. They may already be in scripting stage.

Despite recent statements from The Dark Knight producer Chuck Roven that work on a sequel was limited to "talking and thinking" stage, apparently a script is indeed in the works.

Citing an "extremely reliable source," ReelzChannel's Jeff Otto, representing IESB, went to Roven for confirmation, to which Roven replied: "The creative driver of the project at this point is Chris [Nolan]. There's really nothing more for me to say about that. When he feels that he's got something to talk about, then we'll be able to talk about it."

Furthermore, Roven told Access Hollywood: "Chris Nolan is the guy who's had the vision of 'The Dark Knight' and this incarnation of Batman and we know that he's thinking about [it] -- if he can think all the way through what another one would be like. We'll know if he's gotten to the end of that process when he tells us." Perhaps Roven doesn't realize that IESB heard about the script from an "extremely reliable source."

IESB claims they've "double-checked" and that the script is indeed happening. As usual, we remain cautious on Batman rumors until official word is released.

forget the riddler this is the perfect time to bring bane to the big screen for the second time so he can beat the crap out of batman for 2 and a half hours..
Aiiwolf
Aiiwolf - 2/2/2009, 12:55 AM
The Reason "the Dark Knight" was such a good movie was because of the script and message behind the movie..besides the fact it was nearly a drama action based flick.

Bringing bane in would be good only if he is SMART like he should of been in the Batman and Robin movie. Bane is suppose to be a scientist who becomes addicted to venom powered drugg to pump his body up...and he is suppose to out smart batman. If they can get that down then it would be good.

But THE RIDDLER Idea is the BEST. Riddler takes over gotham city...Johnny Depp = Riddler. awesome.

Anyways, most people on this website are idiots, just like how the officials made bad calls during the damn superbowls.

Totally up for anything Nolan. "In Nolan I trust" :)

i agree, bodykount. i think a nolan version of bane would be extremely badass....we've seen the scare tactics, we've seen the mind games aspect, lets see a more physical war in the next film

2011, Hell id rather they get going and get it out 2010 lol! Great news!!! Plz NO RIDDLER! NO CATWOMAN! NO FREEZE! (lol). Etc! NEW Villains only!!! BLACK MASK, DEAD SHOT, DEATHSTROKE etc etc! So many villains in the BAT Universe!! I loved the Joker, but i saw him as a different Joker, why rehash and anyway if you keep bringing villains people have seen before, people will get BORED! They need something new!!! Anyway i'll say it again, GREAT NEWS!!! : )

got to disagree with the guy who said the riddler would beat the crap out of batman! he's not even a pure villian as he isn't evil! personally the third film should deffinatly have the pengiun and dead shot as the pengiun can turn people against batman and hire dead shot to do the dirrty work!
ihaveabatmantattoo
ihaveabatmantattoo - 2/2/2009, 7:53 AM
to the two comments above mine:
they can't use deadshot. he's already in prison for life or something in this continuity. it's in batman: gotham knight, which was set in between batman begins and the dark knight. he was kind of a wimp in that movie, soooooo i doubt he'll escape just to be used as a character in a third nolan film. not to mention, an assassin killing people and shooting at batman for 2 1/2 hours wouldn't be very exciting or deliver a deep hidden message like the first two films.
the only parallel between batman and deadshot is batman's hatred for guns as opposed to deadshot's love and use of them. that's interesting for a 15 min animated segment. it's kinda boring for a 2 1/2 hour feature film.

I dont know why people cant grasp the idea that Nolans universe has NOTHING to do with any of those other movies so nobody can be "rehashed". Its like picking up a copy of Moores The Killing Joke and saying "oh i dont like this, the characters been rehashed from Millers Dark Knight Returns" ..different writers/directors have different takes on the characters...and i for one hope Nolan does use some of the ones weve already seen before..he might actually do them justice!

Thr riddler definately fits in with the route there going with these batman movies. A psychotic criminal is more likely to be in it than the more fictional villians like bane or killer croc.
hushfanwv
hushfanwv - 2/2/2009, 9:49 AM
Everyone is thinking way too cartoonie. The only way Bane would work if he was a "scientist" who gets addicted to steriods or "venom". But you couldn't call it "venom" thanks to the crappy interpretation presented in spider-man 3. The next logical villian that could mess with Bruce and Batman is of course Hush aka Tommy Elliot. If you are not familiar with Hush I suggest stories Hush, Hush Returns, and Heart of Hush. You will thank me later.
Supermike
Supermike - 2/2/2009, 10:03 AM
Well first DEATHSTROKE is not a batman bad guy he a Robin bad guy so he out

2nd we need a comic book writer to write this movie because if the 3rd one involve the Mob then im walking out they didn't work in the first two movie why would they work in the 3rd one

As for you the bad guy is since Nolan is too stuipd to use the other character right he might do what he did with the Joker and really make him the Riddler and make the Riddler the Joker
Crusader
Crusader - 2/2/2009, 10:43 AM
If Nolan does Bane he will how to do a total revamp. If I go to the movies and see Batman fight a dude who pushes a button to big I will leave the theather.

If bane was a scientist who tries to improve the human body by dealing with steriods than works out to stay big that would be nice.

The way they brought out The Riddler in Batman Forever was nice, but not a good riddler. When Riddler work for Wayne enterprises then bruce fires him. (they might have to change the story a little bit, and not make the riddler gay).
adamant877
adamant877 - 2/2/2009, 11:02 AM
I think the Riddler would be the most logical step forward. We've seen the terrorist angle used with Ra's, and then an anarchist angle with the Joker, I think they'll turn Edward Nigma into some kind of sociopathic serial killer (ala "Zodiac"), and have Batman running all over Gotham trying to use his detective skills to solve the crimes.
Two-Face would make for an excellent side story, place him inside the organized crime bracket, possibly overturning Salvatore Maroni as the head of the organized crime families in Gotham.
Anything they decide to do should turn out to be incredible! I'm in eager fanboy anticipation already!
;-)
Shadowelfz
Shadowelfz - 2/2/2009, 11:11 AM
It wouldn't be rehashing if they use the Riddler because they never did the character right in the original movie series. The same can be said for Two-Face, Mr. Freeze, and even the Penguin (though I liked Danny Devito's turn) these characters were the antithesis of what they should have been. Joel Schumacher never did the Riddler or Two-Face justice, and as weve seen with Two-Face in TDK, Chris Nolan has the right idea. If he wants to do the Riddler, trust him. He know what he's doing.
adamant877
adamant877 - 2/2/2009, 11:30 AM
Couldn't agree more. Besides, it's not like we've been witness to the campiness of the previous installments, Nolan seems to have it pretty much together.

YO just so you know, everyone loved the Burton movies before the revamp!! Yes 3 & 4 was'nt great, an yes i know its a different BATMAN but 'the general public' will want something new! And i thought Jim Carey did a great job as The Riddler!! An alot of non comic book fans did too! If they do The Riddler and he's not up to bar with Carey's, it could be a nose dive for the franchise, that's all, new villains and you hav'nt got that compare them with factor!

Spider-Fan - 2/2/2009, 12:51 PM
Are you really suggesting that it'd be hard to top Jim Carey's Riddler? His interpretation was overly childish, not meant to be taken seriously, and corny. The Riddler, although not as menacing as most of Batmans villains, deserves to be acted out like he poses some level of a threat .
musicsuperhero
musicsuperhero - 2/2/2009, 1:51 PM
To LEEE777: As cool as it would be to see two-face again...i doubt we will because nolan said he's dead (although he might change his mind in light of not having the Joker to use--as he was originally going to use the Joker in the 3rd film). I think Carey's turn as Riddler was horrible and 9of10 Batman fans would agree. Most folks that liked it were just Jim Carey fans. If they get someone like Johhny Depp (which i hope they do) to play the Riddler, he'd be awesome and do it right (along with good writing) and would bring in lots of people as he is a big name. The key is that he's a great actor though. ANYWAY...i think a realistic enough villian to use as a secondary villian (like scarecrow in Begins) would be Firefly.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/2/2009, 2:33 PM
I didnt hate Carreys riddler , mainly because im not a fan of the character in the first place..but i agree he could have played it much better..i guess he was playing it how Schumakunt wanted him to, to fit in with the overall kiddy tone of the movie.
Shaman
Shaman - 2/2/2009, 2:33 PM
Depp can outact Carrey any day of the week and twice on superbowl sunday. Carrey "overacts" and coincidentaly makes a mockery of every performance. But he's "funny", you gotta give credit where credit is due, you can't take away "funny" from the guy but as for Riddler, the last thing he needed was "funny". Depp would finally do the character justice.

Okay, since i don't like to repeat myself i will repost everything i have said on the other article that has to do with the exact same concept which is Batman 3.

"Actually, i don't want to see a bruised and beaten up batman skimping and getting discovered and having to fight all the time, getting his back broken and bitch slapped all over the place in the next chapter. This would be his third movie and he should have more experience and act like the ninja he really is. He's a shadow and i want him to be silent and frightful! I want people to be even more scared of batman than ever before in this movie and i want them to exploit his detective side as MidKnight35 mentionned. He is the world's greatest detective and so far he's been acting like a rooky. I want him to be established as undisputed in combat so that Riddler can try the other route to defeat him...wits. Of course pawns will be there to provide action for the masses but as for the main villain, i believe Brain would be better than Brawn. THEN after the third movie making him practically untouchable in hand to hand, Bane could be a nice addition as well as Lady Shiva to surprise us. To take away our "safety blanket" we took for granted having him getting his back broken. And he'll need a love interest of course which should be Andrea Beaumont. Her familly could be killed off in the fourth movie to bring us the amazing "Mask of the Phantasm" as a fifth storyline. Having her be the mask and of course have the Joker return with Harley Quinn."

and...

"Ra's tested his phisical limits, Joker tested his values and his sanity but no one has tested Batman's intelect and Riddler would be perfect for it. THEN you can bring in Bane and Shiva to overcome him. Black mask is cool but all he has are henchmen. So he could be incorporated in the next two movies to establish his reign. But in the third movie, HE HAS TO BE BATMAN! And the BATMAN we know ain't no one's bitch! The whole point of Bane breaking Batman's back is the same concept as Doomsday killing Superman. It's to show that we shouldn't take anything for granted, to destroy our established security. And so far, Batman hasn't given us anything to take for granted. He must go beyond human limits in the next chapter. To become something bigger so that his fall in the follow up will hurt the most!"

Here's how riddler should be as i have posted on the other article:

"The image of what Riddler should be just came to mind. If you watch the monumental crap fest which was "Once upon a squat in Mexihole", you can notice Depp's performance as a cold blooded, conscienceless yet calm and proffessionnal killer. That's what i'd like Riddler to be but smarter and absolutely obsessed with riddles meaning he couldn't have a conversation with someone without giving them one. "

AGREED with SHAMAN on the Riddler aspect. He needs to be the villain for the third. I hate Catwoman and The Penguin, they're both 'tards in my opinion. NOT that Nolan and crew couldn't do them justice, I just don't care much for them. I never like Bane either, or the idea of Bane, he's a scientist who used extreme roids, la dee da. Batman wouldn't have to whip his ass, just toss some shurikens at his injector tubes and he's done for. NEXT.

I personally always like the idea of a more realistic Killer Croc for the physical aspect of the movie. NOT looking like a croc though, because that's just retarded; BUT, someone with an extreme case of Hyperkeratosis, who has been abandoned by their mother and had to live their life fending for themselves in the streets and eventually sewer/abandoned subway systems of Gotham. Abducted by Crane as the first test subject for his fear serum, but instead of it being inhaled, he injected vast amounts of the serum into Croc, and drove him insane. Now he's got the serum flowing through his veins and entire body, sweat glands, mucus glands, salivary glands etc. DOPE.

I know they did him in the Gotham Knight short, but he didn't die, Bats just ran him off. SO again, bring him back as the "hired" muscle and make Riddler the Mastermind behind all these Zodiac type crimes. That would be my personal favorite way to go. BUT, Who the hell am I, right?

The brilliance of The Riddler is that he can take advantage of Batman's current situation better than any other villain. He can leave all the clues he wants to in order to prove that he's committing crimes and it won't matter; the police can't support Batman right now. That would be pure torture for a great detective like Batman. To add insult to injury The Riddler could use his own detective skills to gain the respect and trust of the G.C.P.D.

Since the Penguin and the Riddler have had an uneasy friendship in the comics I would still like to see Paul Giamatti as the money-laundering, club owner version of the Penguin, but with limited influence on the overall plot. And without any overdone prosthetics or make-up.

One thing that neither the Riddler or the Penguin do well is convincingly lead a gang of tough henchmen. It wouldn't be a Batman movie without henchmen. He has to have a strong phyiscal threat as well as a cerebral challenge. I'd like to see Talia Al Ghul (with ninjas to do her bidding) operating under another name (like her father) until she reveals not only her true identity but also her unexpected affection for Batman. Maybe she even offers to forego revenge for her father's death if Batman will join her. This could set up a great dilemma for Batman. He could either continue to risk his life defending a city that doesn't trust him or join forces with a beautiful woman who understands him better than any other woman now that Rachel Dawes is dead.
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 2/2/2009, 4:52 PM
You know I could see Talia in the ext movie. She could provide a villian and a love interest, making a complex plot twist. I'm still not crazy about Riddler being in the next movie. Nolan could do an awesome take on Bane. I feel that BAne could drive a movie. he woud not be a drooling thug, but a calculating enemy, who could also give Batman the fight of his life.
Betty
Betty - 2/2/2009, 5:12 PM
Please, no riddler. No bastard child of the joker, please. And Batman's "i am gotham's bitch" philosophy in B2 was gratuitous. Although, if Batman didn't have this aspect of himself in B2, his character would have been even more shallow and eclipsed by the joker. Give me a cleavland steamer gotham! (gravely voice)
Oh, as far as villian i agree with thehawk. Combine it with the venom story where batman gets addicted to roids and youve got a great story! Roided out batman STILL gets his bask broke by Bane.
LethalWeapon
LethalWeapon - 2/2/2009, 7:27 PM
i hope they r not rushing things. i think there MIGHT be a love interest becuz rachel died in the second nolan movie. and i dont think they should add riddler becuz joker was all about tricking batman in going one place or another and making hard choices. although the riddler will be good here is my list of villians i think they should add:
1 Mr Freeze
2 Riddler
3 Poison Ivy
4 Penguin
5 Deadshot
6 Clayface
7 Ventriloquist
If they do add one of these charicters i hope it goes with the movie and a storyline becuz scripting now might be too early and they should think about all of this.

Shaman
Shaman - 2/3/2009, 8:10 AM
Actually, ventriloquist would be a great opening villain but not a main villain. Steve Buscemi would be great for that role and he could totally pull off the split personnality.

Clayface is another great villain but a bit unrealistic for the Nolanverse. However, if they did decide to incorporate him somehow, Terry O'Quinn would be the best actor for that part!

bodykount80, i want action too but that doesn't mean that Batman should be slapped around like a little nancy! Action is gratuitous and doesn't require much though to be brought in a storyline. So no matter who the main villain will be, action is sure to rear it's head!

talonn2001
talonn2001 - 2/3/2009, 11:11 AM
I like the realism of these movies, so I think any villian that you couldn't see in the real world needs to stay ou tof these movies, Clayface, Croc, Mr. Freeze, the Penquin, Bane (Although I really like that Character, etc....And just to say, "Thank God they killed Rachel Dawes. That 2 timing slut! haha. Actually I more glad they killed her off because I couldn't stand looking at Maggie Gyllenhall, am I the only one who thinks it looks like half of her face is dead? just hanging there without the muscles attached to her bone structure. Worst part of the Dark KNight other than killing Two-Face at the end, the character deserved more story then he got after becoming Two-Face.

I like the intelect way to go in the 3rd movie with the Riddler I'm not 100% sold on Johny Depp, lately it seems to me that he has started becoming a little 1 dimesional as an actor, he does play deranged well but the Riddler s more intelect then deranged, I really don't have anyone in mind for the role but I trust the casting director to pick the right person, they did a good job thus far, minus the casting of Maggie.
Supermike
Supermike - 2/3/2009, 11:26 AM
If they want to do the Riddler right they could always watch Batman TAS that so far is the best Riddler I seen as far as Johny Depp well can't be as bad as his other movie personal I think they should get Jeffrey Donovan he so badass on Burn Notices

I also think Scarecrow should make one last appear in Arkam have him spray Gorden with fear gas so everyone Gorden goes he see Two-face or hear his voice but since Nolan want us to not have a Imaginations that wont happen in fact Knowing Nolan he must likely mix two Villains together like he did with the Joker
