Could One Of These Be The Title Of Batman 3?

A list of web domains hint at the title and plot of Arkham Asylum 2 but could one of them be for a Batman 3 video game that shares it's name with the upcoming movie?

Warner Bros have snapped up a series of web domains that seem to reveal it’s ideas for new names for the sequel and some possible plot pointers too! We already know that Arkham Asylum 2 won't take place in Arkham Asylum, although Rocksteady has remained tight-lipped on where the sequel will be set. It's previously been rumoured that along with the return of the Joker, the cast of villains will also feature The Penguin, Mr Freeze, Talia Al Ghul and Two-Face as well as an appearance from The Riddler.

From the new list of Warner Bros .com domains:

Arkhamcity
BatmanArkhamCity
BatmanBrokenground
BatmanNewArkham
BatmanGrandDelusion
BatmanRiseofArkham
BatManSiegeOfGotham
BatmanStateOfVillainy

As for the domains that possibly reveal details of Arkham Asylum 2's plot:

CityOfArkham
CloseArkhamCity
PeopleForGotham
StopMayorSharp (In the first game, Warden Quincy Sharp was running for mayor of Gotham)
WheresBruceWayne.

Now, what has any of this got to do with Batman 3 you ask? Well, Warner Bros failed to cash in with a movie tie-in for The Dark Knight (although a game was said to be in development) so it's likely that with the script for the next Nolan movie already written they could be planning a game which, like the majority of tie-ins, will share it's name with any of the above listed web domains! "Rise of Arkham"? "Siege of Gotham"? What do you guys think? Have your say in the usual place!

Arkham City is a sweet name. It just feels like the scale would be much grander and things would be awesomely chaotic.
As for the movie, I kind of doubt the game and movie will tie in at all. The Asylum hasn't been emphasized much in the movies. The Joker is presumably at Arkham. They're not recasting the Joker and you can't do an Arkham story without him.
As for The Dark Knight Returns, to me it sounds to much like an adaptation of the graphic novel. General audiences wouldn't care, but I just don't think Nolan would do it.

Arkham Asylum was a great game all the way up until the final boss battle. That just didn't fit with the rest of the game. Hopefully they will remedy that in the sequel. I'm also excited they are using Mr. Freeze. Love the character. From the teaser we've seen previously, it looks like the inmates break out and overrun Gotham. So I would imagine the feel will probably be like Batman in GTA. You can roam and do side missions all over the city, not just on the asylum grounds. Sounds pretty amazing. Can't wait!

How about calling the new movie "batman: knightfall" and doing the story where bane breaks batmans back? it would open opportunities for different characters and we would see a batman movie like never before. whatcha think?

Now about the title. To be quite honest, they could call it "Batman Movie" and I could care less. Nothing short of a heart attack will keep me from watching it.

for gods sake stop with the recasting, anil! i've cut and pasted the same anti-reboot post three times and you still keep at it with this idiot "comic-booky Batman" idea. i'm right about this and you need to face it. if bale is willing to do JL they need to LEAVE IT ALONE.

i love reading the stuff with everyone up in arms about ed norton and the hulk... as if it MATTERS to the world of non-comic-reading ticket-buyers! (the second p.o.s. hulk movie made 265mil... more than the first hulk's 245mil but hardly a landslide.)

but that's Marvel money. DC deals in real money.

"begins" made 372 million, and TDK has made OVER A BILLION DOLLARS... SO FAR! why the !@#$%^& would DC !@#$%^& with that kind of success????? people LIKE this batman... why the !@#$%^& do you want them to screw it up? shall we get schumacher to direct? shall we get a cgi gleek and scooby-doo in there too? just stfu and leave the world's favorite CBM character ALONE!!!

Yeah, I'm thinking that those domains are for the sequel to the "Batman Arkham Asylum" game coming out in January.

HERE is the CORRECT opinion, everybody. (i wrote this on the joe dante page the other day)

"To conclude... a reboot would be a copout. changing the whole world's favorite CBM character to make it easier to meld the universes would be cowardly and pandering. a versatile director could make a better movie by EMBRACING the variety of styles and showcasing the unique environment from which each character has sprung, and a smart writer will craft a story that enables and REQUIRES each individual hero to do what he or she does best. Clark & Diana do the brawling, with HIM repping in the Oval Office and HER talking to the UN. Hal will find historical connections in the Book of Oa and enlist aid from other planets, while Arthur's troops prevent the enemy from taking refuge in the sea...

... and Bruce will be the DETECTIVE: on the ground, shaking down thugs and sifting through the muck to uncover corruption, deception and "enemies in high places," including the key piece of data that provides the key to victory. Batman was born in the dark and he has to LIVE in the dark, no matter what movie he's in.

If the characters are homogenized just so they can all look right in a Times Square slugfest, the power of the whole JLA concept will be diminished and we'll just have another X-Men movie. And i think we've ALL had enough of those!"

get it? the beauty of the jla as opposed to other teams (even, imho, the Avengers... but I am an admitted DC guy so take that as you will) is that they don't just have different POWERS, or even that they have different PERSONALITIES. it's that they THRIVE IN DIFFERENT SETTINGS AND DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS! leave batman on the ground in a gritty urban setting like bangkok or rio or new york and let him do what he does best.

and go find a superfriends torrent if you wanna see happy-Bats, ok?

Interesting article - and responses. Arkham Asylum was a 10/10 game and it sounds like the sequel will go for 15/10.
Now, let's talk the films :-D

@Anil Rickly - The Superman reboot will not be leading into a JLA film as Nolan has already said. It's gonna be a film/franchise based solely on Superman, so even WHEN they reboot Batman, it will have nothing to do with the upcoming Superman film, and they won't have two different Superman films running concurrently in order to have a JLA film. As Nolan said in the Empire interview, Marvel are going the Avengers route, merging several characters etc. and maybe it will work for them, but Nolan is keeping Superman a solo effort. So no JLA film in the forseeable future.

@ Twilight - Nolan has said several times that he finds it tricky fitting a relatively normal character like the Penguin into the Batman universe they've created, so I find it highly unlikely you would get Bane in it. I like the title Knightfall though :)

Now, I'm not writing this to try and sound "clever", but I've read quite a lot of Nolan interviews regarding Batman, and, lately, Superman, and he always mentions things of this nature.

@ Intruder - I'm with you, Shadow of the Bat would be a great title. I actually heard that title getting tossed about not long after The Dark Knight came out.

And yes, it is s**tty of Marvel to get rid of Norton like that. Let's form our own Avenger Initiative and go "persuade" Marvel to reconsider this! lmao! :)

@ DDD - I enjoy reading both. I kind of lean to the Marvel side more, but that is just my taste. I prefer my heroes more flawed and with real life issues. I still enjoy reading DC (though if not for Blackest Night they may have lost me). I'm with you on the Batman thing. He is and has always been my favorite character. Having said that, I HATE WHAT THEY ARE DOING WITH THE BAT BOOKS! I like Dick Grayson ... as NIGHTWING! There will always only be one Batman and his name is Bruce "Fcuk You Up" Wayne! Accept no substitutes!

The problem I find with DC movies is that there aren't enough of them. They are too few in between and the only good ones as of late are the Bat movies. If not for that, we would only have the Vertigo movies. I love what direction Marvel has taken their movies and any DC fans that say they don't want DC to do the same with their character is LYING THEIR ARCES OFF!!!

COME ON DC, GET WITH THE EFING PROGRAM!!!

@rynow, i think they could put bane in there for a epic ten minute battle against batman, and have the fight end with the back break or some other injury. then the middle of thd movie have bruce coordinating with robin/nightwing,batgirl, gordon, etc.maybe
AlternateNo4
AlternateNo4 - 7/12/2010, 9:39 AM
@anil ... i am pretty chill actually, but thanks for the reply. now that there's a dialogue going i can relax lol...

my issue is with the reboot idea in general. reboot reboot, reboot. the stupid Hulk movies showed that you can redefine a character and franchise mid-stream without rebooting, and we saw styles change in comics too until the world went all reboot-happy in the 90's and especially the 2000's.

of course nolan is done with batman after 3... and he's already said that he's keeping superman in a distinct universe. so what? if DC/WB gets what they REALLY want, Nolan will be right next to Johns godfathering the whole shebang for the next 10 years! and why would they wanna blow 200 million dollars just to redefine the batman character so he can fit into JLA? people LOVE Nolan's Batman, and JLA is an iffy enterprise and a financial gamble. Don't you think WB/DC would think it makes more sense not to eff with the most successful CBM movie character EVER?

look, if you're right you're right! (but i hope you're wrong lol!)

Depending of the movie direction, MIND GAME if it will focus on investigation, or GANS OF GOTHAM, if it will focus on street combat and urban guerrilla warfare.

But, differently most of fans wolud like to see The Riddler as leading villain, I should like to see a 21st century stylish MAD HATTER inspired in McGLoin's outfit from Gangs of New York.

@Arrion, the third movie in a series doesn't always bomb. Look at Revenge of the Sith. It was crap, but compared to the other two it was gold. My best example is 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly'. One of the best Westerns ever, and a dang good movie with an amazing three way showdown. How about 'Return of the King'? The problem with most third movies being crappy is generally because they have different directors, except Sam Raimi, and they are trying to bleed the franchise. THere are plenty of great Batman stories, and I'm pretty dang sure Nolan is better than Shumacher and won't eff it up. Have a little faith.

Arkham was one of the best games I ever played let alone the fact it was a freakin GREAT BATMAN game. The puzzles, combat, quests etc.. where all great. I just hope the sequel stays to true to that. A bigger game world is always nice but don't focus on that and take away from a great game.
