New THE DARK KNIGHT RISES TV Spot; Rotten Tomatoes Release Review Consensus

Along with the review site Rotten Tomatoes releasing their consensus for the July 20th release, Warner Bros have debuted another 20-second countdown spot for The Dark Knight Rises. Check out both after the jump!

"The Dark Knight Rises is an ambitious, thoughtful, and potent action film that concludes Christopher Nolan's franchise in spectacular fashion, even if it doesn't quite meet the high standard set by its predecessor."

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

The Dark Knight Rises opens in theaters July 20th. The film stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Joseph Gordon Levitt and Marion Colltiard.

I was never expecting it to be better than TDK. That was a tough act to follow. What I was expecting was an entertaining, engaging film and a satisfying conclusion. According to these reviews, it lived up to those expectations.

WAIT? So how can The consensus state "NOT BETTER THAN PREDECESOR"? Yet half of THE CRITICS SAY IT IS BETTER AND SOME SAY IT IS ON PAR??? ISNT THAT PREMATURE? FOR A MOVIE THATS GOING TO HAVE AT LEAST 200 REVIEWS?

CAN WE FORCE THEM TO ELIMINATE THAT?

There are barely any reviews in. There was a small string of bad reviews, that means nothing.
Heres Metacritic
Avengers-69
Batman Begins-70
TDK-84
TDKR-85

I still don't trust Rotten Tomato considering there are some people reviewing badly just to lower it's rating.

I'M not angry at the fact that one movie is better than the other and all that crap everybody can't stop fighting about.

Its about the fact that the site puts an unnecessary final coment on a "consensus" of a very small sample, which isn't even the main consensus.

In statistics, this would be a skewed sample that does not represent the WHOLE POPULATION. It can mislead.

And just ask this: "If TDKR was the movie realeased in 2008, and TDK now, WHAT WOULD THE REACTIONS BE???? EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE ARE NOT JUDGING SUBJECTIVELY!

Surprised that we have a consensus already. I've seen many movies not get one until 60-70 reviews in.

I amazes me how many people don't understand that RT is a pooling of reviews from across the nation... it's not a group of people who get together in a dark room and conspire to label a film good or bad... and the critics writing the reviews want to be featured on RT... unlike some other critic site hardly anyone knows exists that one poster likes to mention, RT has rarely failed to gauge accurately the potential appeal of a film.

Of course, anyone that listens to a bunch of professional critics and decided to see or not to see a film based on their opinions is an idiot. we know that.

I find it odd, and unfair at the same time. The consenus does not represent a majority view, and it is unessecary. Granted I have not seen it, it still goes against what many critics have said.
myparentsaredead
myparentsaredead - 7/17/2012, 2:17 PM
The consensus is premature. The movie's still 3 days, with only 40 reviews in. Even if it ends up being true, it's still too early.

Bane has the best quotes. People are going to be quoting him as much, or even MORE so than Heath Ledger's Joker. Cannot wait!

Alejandro260 - 7/17/2012, 2:25 PM
So, the question is:
If most of the reviews that are yet to come in state that it is better and/or if it gets a higher rating than TDK,

will RT change the part that reads "does not meet standard of predecessor?"

@Alejandro260, exactly. RT [frick]ing sucks. They're completely biased. Anything the general public likes, they have to be different and not like it. I RARELY visit their website and when I do, I'm reminded of how much I despise it and why I never go on it.

To the CBM community, even a 99% approval rating would equal, "So, it sucks? I KNEW IT!!!!1!!1!" Blackandyellow has so accurately satirized what's what!
