THE BATMAN's HBO Max Premiere Date Has Been Revealed

The Batman is still playing in theaters (and performing very well), but the HBO Max premiere date for Matt Reeves' critically acclaimed reboot leaked online earlier today, and has now been confirmed.

The Batman's HBO Max premiere date has been revealed, and Matt Reeves' critically-acclaimed reboot is heading to streaming quite a bit sooner than expected.

A tech glitch on the HBO website revealed the HBO Max and pay cable network’s premiere dates for the movie earlier today, and although the listing has since been deleted, Deadline has confirmed that the dates are accurate: The Batman will be available to stream from Tuesday, April 19 on HBO Max and Saturday, April 23 on HBO linear.

This follows WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar's pandemic era mandate that, until further notice, all Warner Bros theatrical releases will stream on HBO Max 45 days after their theatrical debut.

The Robert Pattinson-led DC Comics film is still performing very well in theaters, and is set to pass the $250 million mark in The U.S. later tonight. Its final domestic total is expected to reach $400M, and a $1 billion+ global cume seems likely.

Have you been to see The Batman yet? If so, what did you think?

"Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens."

“When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”

The Batman is rated PG-13 for “strong violence, disturbing content, drug content, strong language, and some suggestive material.”

Too soon. Should have been given a bigger theatrical window. It sure deserves one.

@DrReedRichards - Nah.
People who wanted to see it on the big screen, already did.
Maybe even twice.

@TheHumanSpider2 -

Most comic book films make 5 to 10 million months out.

Go on boxoffice mojo and look at the weekends months out.

@TheHumanSpider2 - No actually NWH is not the exception, actually The Batman is. Of the CBMs released during the pandemic that were NOT released simultaneously on a streaming service The Batman will have by far the shortest theatrical only run (47 days).

Shang Chi had a September 3rd theatrical release followed by a November 12th D+ release (71 days).

Eternals had a November 5th theatrical release followed by a January 12th D+ release (69 days).

Venom 2 had an October 1st theatrical release followed by a December 14th VOD release (75 days).

NWH had a theatrical run akin to any normal pre pandemic film because duh it's swimming in cash and Sony played it wisely. The Batman likewise bringing in bank but WB decided to be stupid and chop off it's legs by not only giving it a very short window, but also informing the public of said short window prior to the film even being released.

WB is...

@TheHumanSpider2 - not true! I want to see it in theatres but haven’t been able to. Was abroad with family when it came out, and tested positive for COVID as soon as I got back. Since that’s now been going around my family, we have yet to be able to go see it, much as we’d like to :\

@TheHumanSpider2 - I’m sure the fact that Sony doesn’t have their own streaming outlet played a big factor in that too. Perhaps a happy accident. I LOVED The Batman, and can’t wait to see it again. Glad I saw it in imax opening weekend, but I don’t have the time or money to see it in the theater again. Glad I can see it again soon. Compare to: Godzilla, Mortal Kombat, The Suicide Squad, Dune, all of which I chose to see in the theater FIRST, but was very happy to be able to rewatch again at home, if not right away, then quickly.

@LongMayHeReign - I love how everyone on here knows so much more than the people actually profiting from this movie. They have a deal with Hbo max where they have to release on streaming. So if it's available on streaming why waste money still having it in theaters, when you'll get diminishing returns. The movie has and is still making a bunch of cash. I don't believe anyone is missing out on money.

TheHumanSpider2 - 3/17/2022, 10:57 AM
@AmazingFILMporg @LongMayHeReign - And how much does it cost to keep them on movie theathers? how much money are you leaving on the table not getting new streaming service subscribers (which is the endgame for all these companies)?

Seriously, the "but muh spidey" defense already got old...really old, is the only movie in TWO YEARS that kept making big ammounts of money after its opening weekend, every other single movie released since the pandemic started (pandemic that hasnt finished, with cases rising again in Europe and Asia) had 60%-70% drops on their second weekends, and was making pennies after a month...again, keeping a movie on movie theathers isnt free.

@gmit92 - Dont you think it would've been fair you were able to see the movie if it was available on streaming?

@Santanaonfire - You are probably right, Sony not having a streaming service more than likely played a part on their decision to not drop the movie earlier...still, they are making TONS of money selling the streaming rights, movie is coming out on HBO Max in Latin America next week.

@TheBlueMarvel - Its only wrong when any other company does it, when Disney does it, and also charges an extra $30 fee, is a "genius move".
Man, this site sometimes...

Just came back from seeing it again, it gets even better the second time!

I really like this 45 days window thing, movie theathers have a reasonable time window of exclusivity, and 45 days is also a reasonable time to wait for people who dont want to risk it by staying on a packed theather for 3 hours.
Not to mention, how expensive tickets are getting (also, at home you can pause the movie and go to pee).
Say it, Walter

Glad is making those numbers, which are pretty strong considering the movie is rated R in some countries (mine included), and analysts are predicting dissapointing numbers from China (probably related to Gordon and Selina, same thing happened with TFA and Black Panther).
dracula
dracula - 3/16/2022, 11:07 PM
@TheHumanSpider2 - should round it out to a full 60 days
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 3/16/2022, 11:09 PM
@dracula - Nah, 45 is the right ammount...30 days would've been enough, imo, but 45 is...reasonable.
AmazingFILMporg
AmazingFILMporg - 3/16/2022, 11:58 PM
@dracula -

60 days would be perfect for the average film.

But honestly 90 days for these big budget films would be perfect.

Comes out in china soon....

Can it reach a billion, its already half way there and yeah china is a big market, but that 45 days is for sure going to cost it some box office
