UPDATED: Once again, the estimates were a little bit off. Sometimes the numbers go up, sometimes down. It this case, the Friday number was down a couple of millions, as it was previously reported that Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises is set for $80M - $85M opening day. According to Deadline's update, the film managed to make $77.2 million yesterday, which is the 3rd biggest opening day in US. While it may not break the opening weekend record, this final chapter is still set for the biggest opening for a 2D film. Reports also adds:

"Look for a huge drop Saturday because of the $30.6M in midnight shows, including $2.2M IMAX grosses. (Previous installment The Dark Knight dropped -29% its Saturday, and this should be no different.) My sources say the 3-day weekend cume looks to be in the $170M range with the caveat that the Colorado tragedy may have an impossible-to-predict effect.".

Stay tuned for more updates. The Dark Knight Rises is now playing in theatres.
