BLACK PANTHER 2: Rumors Persists That Michael B. Jordan Will Return As Killmonger

This isn't the first time we've heard that plans were in place for Michael B. Jordan's return as the villainous Eric Killmonger in Black Panther 2, but a new report now claims to have confirmed it...

Rumors began circulating that Michael B. Jordan was set to return as Eric Killmonger for Black Panther 2 after costar Angela Bassett seemingly let the cat out of the bag during a 2019 interview, but it was generally assumed that she must have misspoke.

Now, a new report from Fandomwire claims to have confirmed that the Creed actor will indeed reprise his villainous role for the upcoming Marvel sequel.

Killmonger appeared to have been killed off at the end of the first movie after being stabbed through the chest. The King of Wakanda's cousin delivered his "death is better than bondage" speech before slumping over, but we didn't actually see him die, and we never found out if T'Challa honored his final wish with a burial at sea.

Even if his death does stick, there's always a chance he could return for flashbacks. A more outlandish possibility is that a different, Multiverse version of the character is introduced. Could we even see Killmonger, not Shuri, take up the mantle of Black Panther?

There are a lot of rumors relating to Black Panther 2 out there at the moments, and while the source has had some scoops pan out, it's best to take this with a pinch of salt for now.

All we know for sure is that the sequel's plot will further explore the characters and subcultures of Wakanda, and the late Chadwick Boseman will not be recast.

Retcon the ending.
Show a masked Black Panther carry Killmonger to some healing center and leave him.

Can’t say that hasn’t crossed my mind several times. MBJ is a huge name and would check that box for the new BP. Plus there is a redemption arc.

Resurrection or Multiverse...MBJ as New BP...might be the only play they have.

🤷‍♂️

@IronGenesis - I dunno Killmonger's death had a huge impact in changing T'Challa and Wakanda, bringing him back lessens that impact. I know that T'Challa is no longer going to be in the MCU (RIP BOSEMAN) but bringing back Killmonger just seems desperate like how there are rumors of Caps return.

But either way I trust Ryan Coogler, lets just hope BP2 isn't his WW84

Yes, don't recast black panther, who's incredibly important to the marvel universe and is hardly disrespectful to Chadwicks legacy but bring back killmonger who had a perfect ending to his arc that caused genuine change to those around him.

@Origame - Thank you. The way Chadwick used to talk about T'Challah he understood the importance of the character and that it's bigger than one actor. I firmly believe he would have wanted the role recast. I will never get over Chadwick but it's a huge mistake not recasting.

@CapstheMFingMan - A fictional character isn't bigger than a real person.

@dagenspear - Absolutely. Chadwick Boseman as a person was and is inspiring in his own right. But kids and people experiencing hardships aren't drawn to Chadwick, they're drawn to Black Panther the character who has been inspiring people for generations. Black Panther has imprinted a lasting mark on society, and Chadwick and his performance - nay, living embodiment - has added to and even cemented that mark, but it is about the character, not the actor. And as should be obvious from the above, that is not at all a knock on the beautiful human being, Chadwick Boseman.

@dagenspear - say that to all the people volunteering in charity work because of these fictional characters. Or how black panther and wakanda has acted as symbols for the black community. Guess this symbol should die since Chadwick died, just like how the Civil rights movement died because Martin Luther King died.
dagenspear
dagenspear - 1/15/2021, 4:26 PM
@Origame - I don't view that as being the fictional characters being important. I didn't say the character should never be used or not recast, just that the life of a real person is more important than a fictional character.
dagenspear
dagenspear - 1/15/2021, 4:26 PM
@CapstheMFingMan - I think some people can stand to not focus on fictional characters.
Origame
Origame - 1/15/2021, 4:35 PM
@dagenspear - well are you starting to see what you're saying considering the context of the conversation being we believe the role should be recast?

And regardless, I think it depends on the fictional character. Naturally human lives are important but at the same time individual lives are strengthened, saved, and given hope because of fictional characters like black panther. If you applied that hope to the real world accomplishments of a real life person, they would be Gandhi levels of great.

@Origame - I think there's a difference between people liking these things, finding them heroic, or seeing examples in their actions of heroism, and depending on them like that.

I think things like that is apart of the issues of our society. People depend on fictional things, false idols, instead of depending on God and Jesus Christ.
Origame
Origame - 1/17/2021, 5:45 AM
@dagenspear - oh dude f@#$ off with that false idol bs. I'm a Christian myself and there's a big difference between seeing Spiderman use his powers for what's right and praying to these characters as gods. Would you say I'm making a false idol of my neighbor who got in shape since it inspired me to? Because that's what these characters are doing.

My personal idea is that T'Challa put one of those healing balls in his chest after he collapsed. Then, after healing him, hide him away in a wide open jail. Meaning a place in Wakanda were no one could enter and he couldn't escape. T'Challa would visit him daily helping him to reform and so when he returns he is more of an antihero. Shuri becomes Queen but she makes him the Black Panther.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 1/15/2021, 7:37 AM
@Steel86 - That would mean T'Challa didn't honor his wishes, and would be a bad look for his character.
SonOfOdor
SonOfOdor - 1/15/2021, 11:50 AM
@Steel86 - That's exactly what I was thinking. Start the film off showing that, and showing Killmonger's reluctant acceptance of his wrongs and respect for Tchalla/Wakanda.

Have Tchalla die on a mission and Shuri shows KM the video of it, Shuri gives a speech, and KM reluctantly take the BP mantle to honor Tchalla.

Some ppl will hate it, but there's few options here unfortunalely
SonOfOdor
SonOfOdor - 1/15/2021, 11:50 AM
@LongMayHeReign - Eh, it could be one of those "you lost faith in yourself and quit, but I believe in you and won't let you go out like that" kind of situations. Not ideal, but they can make it work if done well
Steel86
Steel86 - 1/16/2021, 10:33 AM
@LongMayHeReign - Well in my scenario he wouldn't be in a jail or in bondage. And he still was a criminal so I don't think not doing what he asked for is that big of a deal. Also remember this is a idea born out of a horrible tragedy. Not something that was originally meant to happen.

Coogler has said in an interview MBJ being in all of his films, in some capacity, is like a tradition he hopes to continue.

I can definitely see him appearing in the same broken Ancestral Plane his father was in. Although, he was buried in Wakanda and that would afford him a place in the true Plane, he was a corrupt Panther so I would figure he would end up in a part of the Plane that’s broken like his father did.
Blergh
Blergh - 1/15/2021, 6:48 AM
@BlackBeltJones - that would make more sense to me instead of taking over the mantle. He has done way too questionable things in part 1.
GhostDog
GhostDog - 1/15/2021, 6:52 AM
@Blergh - he’s beyond redemption almost.

But redeeming him or exploring what a rehabilitation would be for a character like him would open questions about past kings and knowing they’ve done reprehensible things too.

If he's back, whatever. But for the love of sweet jebus don't make him Black Panther. It would make the first film a giant waste of time.
