BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER Producer Confirms We Will Never See T'Challa In The Main MCU Again

Rumors about plans for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever have been hitting thick and fast lately, but producer Nate Moore makes it clear T'Challa will not return to the MCU following Chadwick Boseman's death.

The death of actor Chadwick Boseman sent shockwaves across the globe, and left many MCU fans wondering what the future might hold in store for the Black Panther franchise. The plan had been for the actor to reprise the role of T'Challa in the sequel (titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), but the movie is obviously going ahead without Boseman's beloved character.

Recently, there have been rumours ranging from M'Baku taking over the Black Panther mantle to T'Challa's son showing up and Erik Killmonger somehow being brought back. One thing that executive producer and Vice President of Development Nate Moore recently made clear, however, was that we'll never see T'Challa in the MCU again without Boseman here to play him.

"I will say the chances that you see T'Challa in our...I'm not hedging my bets, I'm being quite honest: you will not see T'Challa in the MCU 616 Universe," he confirms in the video below. "We couldn't do it. When Chad passed, it was a real conversation we had with [Ryan] Coogler about, 'What do we do?' It was a fast conversation. It wasn't weeks. It was minutes of we have to figure out how to move that franchise on without that character."

"At no point did we consider recasting," Moore later noted. "The challenge of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is telling a story without T'Challa."

While it's a shame to think that T'Challa's story has ended so soon, it's easy to understand why Marvel Studios felt they couldn't replace Boseman following his death. Originally, the prevailing theory was that Letitia Wright's Shuri would inherit the mantle, but given her controversial views on the COVID-19 vaccine, there are those who believe the character's role will now be reduced somewhat.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to be released on November 11, 2022.

Bad decision. Rip Chadwick, but the character is way bigger than the actor. He knew that.

@AndrewHolland - agreed.

I guess the part we should focus on is that we won't be seeing the main universe T'Challa again. And I'm fine with that. Introducing a variant might be better than just recasting in my opinion

@bkmeijer - 100,000,001% agree. I'm guessing that a variant will more than likely appease both camps (replace or not) better, because the variant will at least have an excuse to look different (like the Loki variants). This way, we can all (Marvel and us) pretty much have our cake and eat it, too.

I'm not for or against recasting really, but this seems like an unnecessarily far-reaching statement. Never is a long time.

Not taking the time and not considering all options doesn't really give me confidence in their decision.

To hell witn the MCU. There. I have said it. Now I just have to work on meaning it...

Huge mistake IMO. T'Challa is one of the best characters in the Marvel Universe. It just makes no sense not to re-cast, especially in an era where there is a high demand for good superhero characters who are people of color.

Notice they said "in main MCU" so that means they can take a diffrent T'Challa from the multiverse and adapt more of characters great stories, we are in the beginning of multiverse saga after all

@GrzeAs - Yeah, if it were me. I'd take a variant version of TChalla from a different universe (Zombie universe) with him being one of the last standing avengers and have the Fantastic Four (Frightastic Four storyline) aid him in getting back to the 616 universe. That way you'd have a different actor for the role but not recasting the role in the main MCU.

And just like that, no storm and T'Challa, or any of the other amazing storylines. Shame

@bobevanz - Since when was Storm/T'Challa an "amazing" storyline? People hated it from day one.

If I read between the lines, doesn't he basically say that we can expect a Multiverse T'Challa?

@Unites -
If you're gonna bring in a variant, you may as well just recast.
The characters can't tell the difference.

...how much of a discussion could you have had if you weren't considering a recast? You can't keep the franchise going with him just in the background the whole time, and I really don't get how a variant is any different.

Now I have no faith in their choice if recasting was always off the table.
