Marvel's Black Widow ended up taking in an estimated $80 in domestic ticket sales over the course of its first weekend on release, and thanks to a simultaneous Disney+ Premiere Access debut, Natasha Romanoff's first (and likely only) solo adventure has already passed the $200 million mark worldwide.
In a rare disclosure of digital figures, Disney is reporting that the Cate Shortland-helmed superhero adventure generated more than $60 million from Premier Access, which allows Disney+ users to stream the movie for an additional $30. Along with its current global box office haul of $158 million, this brings its total to an estimated $218 million.
This means Black Widow has comfortably smashed the record for the biggest opening weekend of the "Pandemic Era."
“Certainly the figure would be higher if every theater were open, if there were zero concern with COVID, and if there weren’t a streaming option,” Franchise Entertainment Research's David A. Gross tells Variety. “For now, those impediments make Black Widow’s opening all the more impressive.”
They do indeed. Those figures also prove that 24 movies in, the Marvel Cinematic Universe shows no signs of slowing down, and has cemented itself as the most bankable franchise in cinema history.
