BLACK WIDOW Set Photos Reveal When At Least Some Of The Movie Is Set...And It's Not the 1990s!

We've been under the impression that Black Widow is an origin story set in the 1990s but some newly surfaced set photos point to a much different setting for the upcoming Marvel Studios movie...

Black Widow is shooting in Budapest, Hungary right now, and photos from the set have already revealed a first look at Taskmaster(?) But as interesting as those images may be, some eagle eyed fans have now noticed that the vehicle Natasha Romanoff is driving appears to reveal the movie's setting.

Up until now, we've been under the impression that this spinoff would be set during the 1990s, but the car below has been identified as a 2017 BMW 5 Series Touring Wagon.

That would place Black Widow squarely between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, something we have heard mentioned in the past. As a result, it appears as if those reports about the movie revolving around the Y2K virus and Natasha being recruited by Hawkeye and Nick Fury were incorrect (it is, of course, feasible that some of this adventure will be set in that period).

With Comic-Con right around the corner, here's hoping we get some answers soon!

I stopped thinking it was set in the 1990s after I saw the first pics tbh. But that doesn't mean there wouldn't be a 90s flashback though.

@DnA - TBH i can see the scarlett BW scenes set in the past and then the new BW scenes set in present day... if there really is a new BW coming to the MCU... also trained through the red room.

It's a time-traveling 2017 BMW 5 Series Touring Wagon.

@Spock0Clock - exactly! I don't even know why anyone would have thought this would be the plot of the movie anyway?

Natasha going around updating computer operating systems so that they can account for the date change doesn't exactly sound a thrill a minute.

Perhaps the bad guy could have been some sinister Microsoft employee in the 1980s who forgot to future proof the way his software encoded date formats. Scary.

@Spock0Clock - Y2K was a computer bug and people thought that when computer clock's went from 1999 to 2000 computers everything would crash.

Black Widow movie their could be terrorist trying to help make that happen with their man made virus.

@DoubleD - it wasn't a "thought", it was a very serious concern that cost companies trillions globally to resolve, particularly in the banking industry. People could have lost all of their money and there would've been no real way to get it back right. My first ever job in I/T was working as a contractor for Bank of America updating firmware on their servers to make them Y2K compliant. It took months.

funny part is, anyone using 32-bit UNIX is going to have to do this all over again by 2038

"Have heard Birds of Prey is really good, way better than I thought. All the characters are apparently really good (especially Ewan), it seems this film is going to be a slam dunk for WB."

"I hear Black Mask in Birds of Prey is "A great, GREAT villain. The best in the DCEU so far and one of the best villains in a superhero movie ever" so that's good!"

"Birds of Prey sounds amazing! people are going to LOVE the leads and Black Mask is gonna be a top notch DCEU villain. R rating is a basically guarantee. The movie reminds me a lot of another classic movie as well." + Reservoir Dogs gif

@tmp3 - Rumors about WB's internal screenings has never been wrong before, so I'm sold.

@tmp3 - if those are true then great, seriously a lot of people are bashing it for not using the comic costumes, seriously not everything that looks good in a drawing is going to look good in live action. It seems to be going for a style similar to the first blade movie. Also seriously Hugh Jackman never wore a comic accurate costume and he was great

"Hugh Jackman never wore a comic accurate costume and he was a relic from a period of CBMs where mere adequacy was all that people needed to think you're great."

Dear lord, what a typo. But I fixed it for ya, there, @dracula. :)
tmp3
tmp3 - 6/28/2019, 2:16 AM
@Spock0Clock - adequate?

You can say you don't like Jackman's take, but that's still nowhere near the general consensus.
dracula
dracula - 6/28/2019, 2:16 AM
@Spock0Clock - comic accurate costume doesn’t instantly make a great movie. Depending on the tone and story they are trying to tell a more grounded costume could be fine. It’s not like the dark knight trilogy bat suits look straight out of the comics. Those films are great. Affleck’s films had very accurate suits and weren’t good

@dracula - idk, this movie could still be terrible, I'm just relaying what I saw on twitter
dracula

@dracula - I didn't say costumes make a great movie.

Anyone who thinks this is a great adaptation of Wolverine doesn't understand Wolverine.

Jackman is a treasure. But half of what Fox did with him worked against him and against the character.
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 6/28/2019, 2:37 AM
If Hugh Jackman had been cast as Superman, people would have loved or at least liked him. If he'd been cast as Batman, people would have loved or at least liked him.

People like Hugh Jackman (as they should, he's great). But that's not the same thing as him being particularly well cast as Wolverine, or the conception and execution of that character being an effective adaptation.

@tmp3 - I feel like we heard this stuff with Aquaman. Granted the film was a success and didn't get the bashing something like BvS got, but as someone who was very excited about Aquaman I was really disappointed by the final product.

Like I said on the last BoP article I do have a feeling this movie will surprise people but I just don't care for the Harley Quinn push or the overall aesthetic.

@DnA - I feel like we heard this stuff with Aquaman.

We hear this stuff every movie.

☑ Entire Cast & Crew praised
☑ Compared to acclaimed classic
☑ Probably best of the franchise
☑ In fact, possibly the best (genre/topic movie) ever!
☑ So I heard you like Mudki -- I mean, heard everyone loved it

@tmp3 - Did we ever stop to think maybe Logan was great because he was comic accurate costume wise to the Old Man Logan comic? Could that be the secret sauce? No? Oh...ok.

Wait, we're just saying it's Taskmaster now, without any confirmation? Pretty sure it's still speculation at this point.
