In Black Panther, Erik Killmonger manages to take over Wakanda and ingests a heart-shaped herb to become the new Black Panther. It obviously doesn't take long for T'Challa to return and reclaim his throne but one of the movie's most shocking moments comes when Killmonger dies despite the fact that he was played by the talented Michael B. Jordan and could have easily shown up again one day.

While he doesn't exactly find redemption in his closing monologue, it seems like he might be willing to change his perceptions until he turns down T'Challa's offer of help and lets himself die
watching a Wakandan sunset. Now, director Ryan Coogler has confirmed that his death was always the plan.

"No, for him we always – that wasn’t something that we went back and forth on," he said in regards to possible redemption for one of Marvel's best villains. "His end was the same as
draft one that it was in the film. Just because the idea was that these two things can’t coexist; if T’Challa and him… you know, that was a great tragedy of it for T’Challa, I think. But Killmonger was too far gone."

Killmonger wasn't Black Panther's only casualty but he was its most significant and his death was extremely powerful. Do you guys think Marvel made the right decision killing off Killmonger?

@CrazyCipher - Yeah. Not to mention his whole motive was based on how African Americans were treated both historically and currently. So for him to go to an African country and to be imprisoned at the end? Kinda tone def if they go that route.

@Origame - I guess it still would have made a powerful statement, but its better this way.

@CrazyCipher - I don't even think it would have been a powerful statement. It would've just come off as oblivious while forcing it so this villain can come back. Some characters need to die for the sake of story and this is a perfect example.

Real question is why they killed off the other one.

@CrazyCipher - Finally someone said it! Klaue could have done so much more, especially that Serkis is portraying him.

The only Marvel villain that I want to see again is Red Skull. I also want to see a real Mandarin played by Donnie Yen.
