CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 Gets Director(s)!

Yes, a pair of co-directors have been hired to helm the sequel to Marvel's Captain America - Community duo Joe and Anthony Russo are apparently in final negotiations..

It seems that short-list of directors we heard about a while ago was on the level, as Marvel have now (all but) hired a directing duo to follow in Joe Johnston's footsteps for Captain America 2..

This is all we have for now, courtesy of Showblitz..

COMMUNITY producers Joe and Anthony Russo are in final negotiations to direct CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 for Marvel and Disney. The studio had no comment. Duo are repped by WME and 3 Arts Entertainment. More to come ...

It seems the brothers impressed Kevin Feige enough to beat The Adjustment Bureau's George Nolfi for the gig. The pair have very little movie experience (Welcome To Collinwood, You Me And Dupree), being best known for their Emmy award winning work on the very popular (and very funny) tv series Community. Walt Disney Studios has slated Marvel Studios’ sequel to the Captain America: The First Avenger for a worldwide release on April 4, 2014.

Do you guys think everyone in Hollywood is a one trick pony??! Not every director has hits with every movie. Not every director makes the same type of movie every time! Come on! Marvel is still in charge and they're not going to bring in two idiots and ruin phase 2!!!!

They chose these guys over the director of The Adjustment Bureau?

I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but the Russo bros. are certainly not Captain America material.

Goddammit!!! How [frick]ing hard is it to find someone who has experience? Hell how hard is it to keep the same director on board?

i think Johnston did a terrific job on the "period piece" aspect of Cap. this seems pretty low-rent of Marvel

They don't even write the show.
And Harmond was influenceing everything even the directing.

They just chose people to push around just like Thor 2.

Guys they aren't writing it... odds are Marvel has almost all of the MCU mapped out I doubt the directors actually have much say...

Marvel, as I expected, are going to hire guys who understand that the MCU needs to be treated like a tv show with certain characters. Directors need to understand, you get some of your own spin but not an extreme amount, and some directors may not get that concept. Now the Russos have improved since You, Me and Dupree so we'll see. I mean, they have been handling the extreme pain Chevy Chase daily so they must know something. And we still do not know what kind of movie we are getting, everyone is just expecting spy style but that may not be Marvel's idea. I'm skeptical but yet intrigued and willing at the moment to give them a slight nod. Wait and see time I guess.

No Joe Johnston?? Captain America was the BEST CBM of all last year! These guys have big shoes to fill. I want the next movie to be just as good or even better!

Don't let me down Marvel! And make sure Chris Evans fills out that suit! He looked terrible in The Avengers next to everyone, especially compared to how he looked in TFA:CA! Damn, what a shame.

Ummm I think at this point, as weird of a choice it is, that Kevin Feigi has prooven to us that we need to just trust him.

Kenneth already explained it, he cannot rush into doing a second movie that fast, it's not his style and he didn't feel he could give it the proper job he felt he was capable of. And Johnston was a period style director and that period is over and left.

Just as long as they bring back to CHIN-STRAP

That was the major problem with the costume in Avengers, it looks silly without the chin-strap, ironically.

And there's actually usefulness to it, remember the scene where the Chitauri grab Cap and pulls off his half-mask? Wouldn't happen if he had a chin-strap

At this point, they should just fish directors straight out of filmschool and maybe even do the same with actors. Hell, why don't they make their own acting/film school?

Are you Marvel material?

ummm..i dont know how i feel about this. For one Community has funny episodes and even some good writing, but mainly on comedy. Maybe you gotta look at their paintball episodes because can do pretty good action scenes for TV, but I dont know about bringing that to a full scale superhero movie

While I'm a huge Community fan, I'm having a hard time figuring out how that show's appeal translates to Captain America.

Maybe Steve has a Dreamatorium? I dunno...

So are you guys privy to what goes on behind the scenes? Have you guys read the script for Cap 2 and know it's going to be a comedy? You guys are ridiculous! I remember many said that Jon Favreau and Marvel had a falling out. Well, he exec. produced Avengers and is in Iron Man 3. Stop acting like you know stuff about a process that you know nothing about! Just try to f*ckin' enjoy the movies and be glad we have a Captain America 2, Thor 2, Avengers 2 and Iron Man 3 to look forward to.

Marvel may be starting to look at the success of The Avengers and think that so many of the great and memorable moments in the film were the humorous ones. Humor may be the key keeping the appeal of these films in line with a larger audience. This could play into their decisions with future directors. The story and the action is probably all worked out before they even start looking for a director anyways. The just need someone who understands comedy and can add the kind of standout humorous moments like Whedon was able to do with The Avengers.
