In some ways, the MCU feels as if it's been around a lot longer than the 15 years that have passed since Tony Stark declared, "I am Iron Man," in 2008.
Case in point, Anthony Mackie recently discussed his experience filming Captain America: Brave New World and remarked that it's been ten years since he was on set filming Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2013 (the film was released in 2014).
"It kind of brought my Marvel experience full circle because we shot in D.C. at the same hotel that we shot ‘Winter Soldier’ at," said Mackie on filming Brave New World.
"One of my first Marvel scenes was me sitting at a table talking to the senator, and me and Chris [Evans] and Scarlett [Johansson] kidnapping him and we go back and we stay at the same hotel and we shot at that same area. So in that regard, it was really emotional to think how far my character has come and where he is now after the 10 years that I’ve been in the MCU."
After receiving the shield from Cap at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, Mackie's Sam Wilson wrestled with his inner turmoil about becoming the 'sentinel of liberty' in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Now, Mackie will make his cinematic debut as Captain America in New World Order/ Brave New World when the film hits theaters on July 26, 2024.
Previously, Mackie shared the main difference between what it means to have Wilson slinging the shield versus Steve Rogers.
The cast for the film includes Mackie, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres / Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, Harrison Ford as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (who replaces the late William Hurt), and Shira Haas as Israeli superheroine Sabra.
Filming wrapped on June 30, 2023, just before the SAG-AFTRA strike became official on July 14, 2023. However, if there's any need for reshoots or ADR, the film is likely to be delayed as the strike could stretch into the fall and possibly Jan/Feb. 2024.
