There's only one hero's name in the title, but there are plenty of other big names scattered throughout Captain America: Civil War. Most are familiar, such as the Winter Soldier, Vision, Or Falcon. Others, such as Black Panther, are jumping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time. In a new video interview, the actors portraying all four characters discuss their contributions to the epic film.
Anthony Mackie was particularly happy with how the film turned out. “We know the movie’s good. We read the script. Sebastian Stan’s in the movie. We got Sexy Sebas,” Mackie joked. When asked if the inclusion of more characters meant a bigger role for Falcon, Mackie downplayed the size of the role in favour of overall scope. “I think what was so interesting is that because it’s Captain America, your part can only be so big. I don’t think it’s a question of how much you’re in the movie. It’s not often as an actor you go into a project knowing if it’s going to be really good or wildly successful. So when you have that opportunity, you just chill out and enjoy it.”
Sebastian Stan was also satisfied with his role as Bucky and how it progressed from The Winter Soldier. "I didn’t really know how they were going to do it [in Civil War], but I felt they did a really great job in terms of providing different temperatures of the guy. So he was still recognizable, in some ways, from the past but very much the new guy that he ends up being.”
Chadwick Boseman elaborated on the time he spent in South Africa, perfecting Black Panther's accent with the help of a personal dialect coach. “Before we shot the movie, I went to South Africa where I was working on another film. I found a dialect coach while I was there. I think part of it was to base it in a certain [region] and play with some other styles throughout the continent. So I worked with the dialect coach, and that sound, to me, had a certain vibrato; a sort of smoothness to it that I thought worked for someone who was dually on the battlefield and in political office.”
One of the funnier (and shocking) moments of Age of Ultron was when the Vision was able to lift Thor's hammer, which certainly implies that the Vision is rather sound in thought and moral standing. When asked if this moral standing meant that Tony Stark's side was the right one to be on, Paul Bettany was rather concise. “Yeah, that’s exactly what it means,” Bettany deadpanned, waving his hand for the next question.
