2016 was a favourable year for fantasy, animated features, and - most importantly - comic book films! According to an analysis from
The Hollywood Reporter (via
Box Office Mojo), Marvel Studios'
Captain America: Civil War lead 2016 with a
$1.15 billion haul at the box office, with Disney and Pixar's
Finding Dory coming in a close second with $1.028 billion. Several other CBM's found their way into the top 10 as well, including
Batman v Superman,
Deadpool, and
Suicide Squad.
As a whole, 2016 wasn't a great year for everyone; only 26 films managed to cross $100 million domestically, and a collection of box office bombs ( such as
God of Egypt,
Ben-Hur,
The Finest Hours, and
Allied) lost a combined total of about $1 billion. Disney, however, continued to thrive, commanding an whopping
26.4 percent of the North American market thanks to the massive success of
Civil War,
The Jungle Book,
Zootopia, and
Finding Dory, along with the recently released
Moana and
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity.
