Don Cheadle Teases “Intense And Pivotal” ‘War Machine’ Role In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR
Many have speculated about War Machine’s fate in Captain America: Civil War after the first teaser trailer, and now Don Cheadle might have offered some insight.
During the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend, the folks over at SuperheroHype had caught up with Don Cheadle to discuss his directorial debut, Miles Ahead. However, talk eventually turned to the Academy Award-nominated actor’s fourth appearance as James “Rhodey” Rhodes aka War Machine in Captain America: Civil War, and potentially a fifth or sixth turn in the two-part Avengers: Infinity War.
“I never know what it’s going to be and they keep their cards very close to their breast with Marvel,” said Don Cheadle of his future as War Machine. “I never know where the character’s going to go, but he’s become more and more and in the next one, you’ll see that what happens to Rhodey is a little bit more intense and pivotal to what happens in the rest of the stories.” What could this “pivotal and intense” something be? Only time will tell, but Don Cheadle is certainly enjoying the experience so far.
“I ultimately like it when we’re there and I’m working with other actors and it’s fun, but it can be very tedious,” he said. “A lot of time you’re looking at a green screen and a tennis ball on a C-stand, and it couldn’t be more antithetical to doing what Miles Ahead was, but you just give over to the elements and go, ‘Oh these are the toys and I’m playing with the biggest and best toys’ and we’re flying around and doing stuff that if I was ten years old, I'd be having the greatest time in my life.”
Directed by Anthony & Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain. Starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Emily VanCamp, Daniel Brühl, Frank Grillo, William Hurt, and Martin Freeman, Captain America: Civil War is set for release on May 6, 2016.
