How Does Mark Millar Feel About Marvel Adapting His CIVIL WAR Storyline?

As we know, the third Captain America movie will be based (quite loosely we'd imagine) on Millar's somewhat controversial Civil War comic. What does the Kingsman: The Secret Service writer think about Marvel adapting his work? Click on to find out...

Mark Millar has written some pretty amazing Marvel comics, and though the writer is now affiliated with 20th Century Fox, one of his most (in)famous storylines will be adapted for Steve Rogers' (Chris Evans) third big-screen outing, Captain America: Civil War. Because Marvel Studios don't have access to certain characters that play a vital role on the comic's plot, it's a safe bet Kevin Feige and co. will take quite a few liberties with the story (for how things are rumored to play out specifically, click click here) , and chances are we'll end up with a very loose take on Civil War -- so how does Millar feel about that? Pretty good actually! While speaking to MTV he reveals that he has complete confidence in the studio and is really looking forward to seeing the finished film.

"They’re a money machine, they’re amazing. Whatever they do is gonna be a billion dollar movie and it’ll be great. You know as a fanboy I grew up, since I was 4 or 5 I planned to be Spider-Man. Even now I still think it’s possible! I couldn’t be more relaxed about it. Almost any other studio could screw it up. I’ll just show up on the night and enjoy the film."

Almost any other studio... but not Fox, right Mark? Seriously though, he's not wrong. Some Marvel movies may be better than others but at this stage they've earned the confidence or both fans and critics, and it's hard to imagine them steering too far off course now. Captain America: Civil War is set for release on 29 April, 2016.

Yeah...it can be totally screwed up. It's not about the money, and no studio is unstoppable. The fact that there's no Spider-Man, no FF, no X-Men, no secret identity conflict, makes this MCU Civil War completely different. I hope it's done right. If it wasn't under the Russos wing, I'd be more worried than I am now.

I can not get excited about Civil War. Didn't like the comic it's based off on, don't like Spidey may not be in it, seems too much of a response to Batman vs Superman, seems too much of a Cap and friends film and not a Captain America film. Only friends he had was Falcon and Black Widow but this will likely have them, Vision, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch.

Sure Cap 2 was awesome and I trust the Russos but having a Captain America film about Civil War is like having adapting a Superman film about Injustice.

Also Mark Millar sucks.

Seeing how First Class and DOFP are leaps and bounds above Marvel's recycled trash, I'd say he's doing a good job.

@MarkyMarkRises

The Identity Conflict could play a small part since with have some of the newcomers in the Netflix series and a supposed Age of Ultron rumor.

Recycled? If Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier were never Marvel movies, then I don't think you'd bring any similarities upon them. You're just a biased fool against all things Marvel Studios.

I don't think it's a response to Dawn of Justice, Marvel planned their movies, including this one, ahead of time, up to 2028.

Plans change any time. I mean I doubt Marvel planned to do a Daredevil show but once they got the rights back they decided to do one.

They probably have plans for if they get the rights to Spidey and Fantastic Four fan at a certain period of time and plans if they don't get them back. They could have multiple plans. Some identical to others but some so different.

They could have ideas what to do to each film but that doesn't mean Civil War was the only plan they had for Cap 3 because they plan ahead.

How is this a response to BvS when they've been teasing a Cap/Iron Man feud since 2012?

Its actually not a response though. Back after the first Avengers film came out, Kevin Fiege came out saying "Civil War" would be a good idea for Avengers 3. Of course it aint Avengers 3, but you can tell Feige had the idea in mind far before even MOS came out. Plus looking back at things, you can kind of see the set up. I'm sure after Age of Ultron it will be clear this isn't a response call

I view the Millar Civil War as a "What If" comic and pretend it didn't happen. So many Marvel heroes were portrayed completely out of character. Hopefully, the Russo Bros will alter it in a major way.

@YoDawg

I still don't see how it makes sense after Age of Ultron, you have Civil War. Pretty clear Tony created Ultron. Not any of the other Avengers. Sure Banner could have helped but it's Tony's creation. All the damage Ultron causes, why would Tony blame other heroes and have them register with the government for his mistakes? Tony also doesn't like working with government as seen from Iron Man 2.

It just doesn't make sense to have 2 films in a row where Tony is basically the villain. He creates Ultron in one and in the next supports a registration act and forces other heroes to sign or be hunted.

Russo's last film was great and Marvel seems to be on right track....They are on a weird track...They have a ton of TV under their belt so i feel a bit more confident on consistency.

As far as Millar goes...I have to steal a line from a comedian Mitch Hedberg 'All right, you're a cook -- can you farm?' Millar is a great Comic Book guy, and outside of big ideas none of that translates to movies.

Civil War is a response to BvS but yet Feige gave a hinting clue that they were adapting Civil War at the 2012 SDCC. Which was a whole year before BvS was even announced.....so that's that.

And it makes sense because S.H.I.E.L.D. fell in The Winter Soldier and even teased some elements of Civil War. It's not called Avengers: Civil War, it's called Captain America: Civil War, hence a Captain America 3.
