Alright so all u Cap fans...realize that he never really wanted this role.He doesn't care much for the character and didn't want the fame,in the end he just wanted something large enough to boost his career into directing sooner or later. There u have it

@wonder at least hes being honest, i could care less, do a GREAT Steve Rogers and we all win. He gets closer to his goal an we get a great captain america, its a good thing in my opinion, if thats how he truly feels than hed have more pressure to be greater

Maybe he could direct one of the Cap sequels or something else for Marvel?

I don't care why he took the role. Actors take roles all of the time that they have no interest in. He could hate the character and still be able to play him well enough. At least it's not a limey Brit playing Cap!

Up above I posted the first part of the interview with Evans, which had previously been posted on CBM, in which he explains specifically why he had reservations about taking on the role. This was NOT just about a pay day.

@SWonder916

LOL sure. What was it that Ryan Reynolds is most passionate about? Oh that's right... DEADPOOL! He doesn't really seem to care about Hal Jordan, now does he?

Well now that the first part of the interview is up (granted I hadnt listened to part 1 before part 2) the 2nd part seems extremely out of context. Good thing you put up both parts EdGross or that would put him in a pretty bad light for those who hadnt (like me) seen the first part of that interview. You should edit the page again and put part 1 as the first video too :)

And some people just swear he was the perfect choice. He doesn't know anything about the character and even admitted that he understood how playing two characters in the same universe was inconsistent. Now he's like, I took the part because comicbook movies have potential to be big and I can use the boost. It was a cheap move for the company and an ulterior motive move for him. This will show through in the movie.

I hope it flops hard so they can hurry up and recast his ass.

Thanks for the feedback. I've adjusted the description of this interview to more clearly define what's being discussed, and even thrown in part one.

Who caressss why he took it, 95% of actors don't care about the character they play. I bet once you see the movie, you'll forget that you ever read this interview
TheTaskmaster
TheTaskmaster - 3/12/2011, 6:01 PM
@NeoBaggins See youre looking at it like many people would (including myself) if they hadnt seen part 1 of the interview. Yes part of his final decision to take on Cap was the boost for his career, but it wasnt the sole reason. He was just as reluctant to do it because he does not want to be constantly under society's microscope which would consequently cause him to do the character an injustice; and stated multiple times he did in fact TURN DOWN the role. If he was purely concerned with the career boost he wouldve taken it the second Marvel offered him the role. But he realized in order to reach his ultimate goal of directing he needs to take on that extra fame. Dont pick and choose facts to make him look bad, it makes you look ignorant.

I actually like what he's saying, and I think we all do it; when we hear a rumor about a movie's storyline or read a synopsis, we all see that movie in our head's in the way we think it would be ideal and great and interesting. He may not have the history or connection with the character us as fans have come to almost demand from actors, but he has something very much in common with all of us.
Fabs
Fabs - 3/12/2011, 6:11 PM
Perfectly legitimate. Don't see why anyone should be disappointed with with he said. At the end of the day - acting is just his regular day job - regardless of how fancy or cool it may look to those of us on the other side of the screen.
If anything, the fact that he sees Captain America as being a good stepping stone to getting him in a position to direct his own project (whether thanks to the financial benefit or higher profile) then it goes to show the confidence he has in the project and how it will help his career rather than tank it.

:)

Who [frick]ing cares, he's Cap, has been for a while, people STILL [female dog]ing about that? Move on with your life. [frick]ing pathetic dwellers. Your life must suck cause all you do is worry about the past.
ThreeBigTacos

Wahhhh wahhhhh he is being honest instead of telling us what we wanna hear wahhhh wahhhh. lol

Yes, at first this is kinda disappointing, but when you really gather it all in, it's good he is being honest, and using this as a stepping stone should make us believe that he'll put his all into it.

[For example, you wanna become a TV show/host cook, so at a local cookoff contest you give it your all and then some to get your name out there and show the world what you have. Essentially its the same thing.]

It occurs to me that one thing needs to be kept in mind: actors ALWAYS have their reasons for taking a role, whether it's a paycheck, a promise that the studio will finance a different film of the actor's choice, the desire to work with a certain director, the chance (as in Evan's case) to direct, the chance to boost their status in Hollywood, etc.

All of which is NOT to say the actor doesn't care about a particular character, the answer to which will be evident when the film in question is released. If it feels that the actor is not just sleepwalking through the part and brings the character to life, then their motivation for taking it in the first place simply doesn't matter.

capreborn - 3/12/2011, 6:24 PM
Who cares why an actor does the role as long as they sell it and news flash most actors and actress do movie for other motives be it money, exposure or a chance to direct. NEOBAGGINS why would you want a movie to fail ? that just plain childish in that case if someone does a movie for some other reason besides love that character your gonna bash the movie ? well i guess you want TDKR to fail or superman or green lantern or x-men cause I'm pretty sure not everyone attach to the movie is doing it because they love the characters or script.

If I interviewed him I'd ask him if he's seen the full movie and if so what were his honest opinions on it *cause he seems to be in the honest mood right now*.

After the interview I'd probably start hyperventilating and shouting "OMG OMG! I love you! I really really love you! I wanna be with you forever! LOVE ME LOVE ME!". Then he'd get freaked out just like how Reynolds was when I talked to him. Awww what a good day that was.

I'm sorry what were we talking about ;)

Evens is just like Mickey Rourk in IM2. He didn't care about the character he was playing or the film, thats why he said he has never even watched the film.

jbak368 - 3/12/2011, 6:38 PM
@Land - Mickey Rourke says he never watches any of his films. Some actors don't like to see themselves like that. It's like when you hear a recording of your voice, and you're like "I don't sound like that!"
EdGross
EdGross - 3/12/2011, 6:41 PM
I really don't think Mickey Rourke was drawn to The Expendables because the script called out to him, but he made his sequences in the film absolutely resonate - no easy task in a dopey (but fun) action movie. It's all about what an actor brings to a character.

@VideoColor- dude, it's only like two people complaining about Evans. The rest of think he's great for the role. And i'm not even going to point out the irony of calling people nerds while logged into a website dedicated to discussing movies based on comics... (yes, i'm aware i just pointed out the irony)
