Mackie is most likely joking around a little, but when asked about the recently released concept art for his character he says
"I'm very disappointed! When you sign on to a superhero movie you want to be a superhero. You want spandex..you want that." He continues.
"When I went into it I was like 'I want the wings, I want the bird (referring to Redwing), I want all this shit. Cos you want little kids to dress up like you". The interviewer points out that a comic faithful costume could have gone very wrong.
"And I wanted it to go all the way wrong", Mackie replies with a luagh.
"As cheesy as possible"
