Bleeding Cool came across the following images from Gentle Giant Studios which give us a really detailed view of at least one of the designs of an action figure clearly based off of the movie suit! Check them out below and be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

Born during the Great Depression, Steve Rogers grew up a frail youth in a poor family. Horrified by the newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to enlist in the army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Overhearing the boy’s earnest plea, General Chester Phillips offered Rogers the opportunity to take part in a special experiment… Operation: Rebirth. After weeks of tests, Rogers was at last administered the Super-Solider Serum and bombarded by ‘vita-rays.’ Steve Rogers emerged from the treatment with a body as perfect as a body can be and still be human. Rogers was then put through an intensive physical and tactical training program. Three months later, he was given his first assignment as Captain America. Armed with his indestructible shield and battle savvy, Captain America has continued his war against evil both as a sentinel of liberty and as leader of the Avengers.

Captain America: The First Avenger is set to be released on July 22, 2011!

Nice, but I still want to see him in a more classic version of the suit in the Avengers!

With the SHIELD-style protective suits established already, there's no excuse to have him keep the WW2-Era Fatigues when he gets to the present.

now that is a ww2 cap and totally agree with Gaston on the Jack Kirby disrespect

Um. How can someone born during the Great Depression fight against the Nazi's in WWII? What is he? 10 years old?

eh this is a cool image but personally I am not all that happy with the costume.

I think that what they did here was take the Ultimate Cap uniform and engineer towards live action.

What they should have done is to developed the costume by starting with the classic and engineering toward realism.

It looks awesome!

@ ThePencilNeck: Yeah he was born about 10 years before the depression...... lol

@ p862010: Yeah.....& WW2 started 1939.....

@ Juggernaut: "I think that what they did here was take the Ultimate Cap uniform and engineer towards live action.

The Ultimate costume is an attempt to engineer the original costume towards realism....

This looks awesome. It's a nice "between" between all of the costumes...Simon/Kirby, Reborn, Ultimates. I couldn't be more excited about this movie.

Thanks guys! :)

It looks fantastic IMO, although I hope we'll see more mask than helmet. (in the present day at least) A slightly updated version of this, along with some elements from the "Ultimates 2" suit, would make me happy for The Avengers! I'm guessing that Tony will design Steve one, just as his dad does during WWII!

tea: Lol, I hope that his ass you're talking about and not mine! :D

The Entertainment Weekly article says the movie takes place in 1942, which would make him 13 if he were born in the first year of the Depression, 1929 is when the Stock Market Crashed (Black Tuesday).

I have to say I was warming up to the new suit, but disrespecting Jack Kirby’s vision is unforgivable. What a complete and total "Ass Lint" he is. I bet he likes the paycheck Captain America is giving him.

The one thing with this costume is that there were alot of times where Cap would take the mask off while keeping the costume on, just kinda letting the mask hang like a hood, doesn't seem like this one will allow him to do that. Still Bad Ass otherwise, wish he'd keep the handgun in the future. Tossin that shield around constantly is a bit of a stretch IMO.

For anyone who's curious the Great Depression ended when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor (roughly). So, it's not too unrealistic to say that Steve was born during the Depression and fought in World War 2. As for anyone still complaining the upgraded SHIELD suit as opposed to the traditional comics suit: Marvel already tried that with their FIRST attempt at putting Steve Rogers onscreen. IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! The movie (and it's costume) was so bad it wasn't even released to the general public. It's harsh to say this, but get over it.

@teabag - Great Job! Looks excellent!

I just had a thought - what if the wings on Cap's skull cap were retractable? They could be antennea that pop out when he needed to signal his shield to come back to him! That would be the shit! Damn, I hope Joe Johnston is reading this...

Yeah, I know the Great Depression started in 1929 in September. And WWII started in 1939, the US joined the fight in 1941, and the war ended in 1945. So, if Cap was born at the very beginning of the Great Depression then he was no older than 16 by the end of it and would have had to have been 13-15 to have joined and seen actual fighting.

Which is a little young.

@ Tea Fantastic job looks awesome.

@ Intruder I think you joking but if he ain't packing a 1911 I'll be bummed. If he's packing a deagle I will facepalm.

@ Those uncomfotable with the "Ultimate" costume. I'd be willing to wager if there had never been an Ultimates and they came up with the above as the movie costume most would not have a problem with it. For that still would, I would question your ability to realize CBMs will always be made for the average movie goer. Good CBMs will do this while preserving as much of the source as they can with out coming off silly.

Wow, no bouncing boobs in this thread, it's a miracle - Cap fans actually talking about Cap! Hehe, just poking a little fun, after all, what's a Cap shield toss without a little "wank!"?
