Gwyneth Paltrow On 'Pepper Potts' Possibly Returning In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Will Captain America's third solo outing have enough room for both Tony Stark and his girlfriend/CEO Virginia Pepper Potts? Check out what Iron Man 3 actress Gwyneth Paltrow says about the possibility.

For the first time since the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with Iron Man, it seems that next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron will finally see Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark without the playful banter between he and his main squeeze, Virginia "Pepper" Potts. However, given an Iron Man 4 is not in development and the Armored Avenger is set to appear later in Captain America: Civil War, actress Gwyneth Paltrow was asked if she and Downey will be reuniting for that 2016 sequel.

“I don’t know; I’ve heard rumors that maybe, and I don’t know,” the Iron Man 3 actress told Dish Nation during a recent interview. “My fingers are crossed. I would love to be Pepper Potts again at some point in my life.” It is worth noting that Pepper Potts did not have much of a role during the Civil War comic book storyline, but at the time, she was married to Happy Hogan, who was critically injured during the event. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has obviously taken a different route with the characters, but perhaps Captain America: Civil War may have something short and sweet for Gwyneth Paltrow to do; Pepper Potts is the CEO of Stark Industries afterall. Of course, we still don't know how or if Pepper's absence in Avengers: Age of Ultron will be explained, nor do we know exactly how she will be affected by the movie's events. What do you think?

Directed by Joe & Anthony Russo, Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chadwick Boseman, Frank Grillo, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie & Daniel Brühl, with appearances by Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Samuel L. Jackson expected. The film opens May 6, 2016.

I hope she does, but they should explain her absence in Avengers: Age of Ultron not wait until Captain America: Civil War

It'd be nice to see Pepper return though.

Should've died in IM3, at least that would've stood out as a redeemable quality and added dimension to Tony's pain/suffering.

As long as Cap is kept badass and real, I don't think Tony's banter will take away from the movie's quality too much.

Marvel needs to "consciously uncouple" with Gwyneth

@MarkyMarkRises

If Marvel studios wants women to be more involved in their movies, they shouldn't try to take damsels in distress to badass through terrible character progression. Instead, take the already badass ones (BW, Peggy, Agent 13, Maria Hill, Sif) and expand on those people or introduce more female badasses. Also, when they do that, they should refrain from making a circus out of promoting equality and just let it happen like the Russos did.

I hoped she would have another appearance in Age of Ultron, like her cameo in The Avengers. It seems weird that she'd be missing from that party in Avengers Tower, at least.

But either way, it'd be great to have her in Civil War. Her relationship with Tony is easily the best, most well thought-out, most developed, most believable relationship in the MCU.

Killing her off would be a massive waste. Let's stay away from the dumb cliche' of fridging the female character, shall we?

I wouldn't mind if Pepper's in Civil War.....only to die!!

If not, buzz off! I don't want Potts to eat any screen time off of Cap's supporting characters: Falcon, Sharon, & Bucky.

@MarkyMarkRises Agreed. Potts should've died in IM3 so it'll give Stark a reason to become an antagonist and also to prevent lame ass Potts eating up screen time from other characters.
