6. Thor & Loki
The half-brothers have been through a lot together it’s fair to say. United at first then torn apart by Odin’s favouritism towards Thor and Loki’s true heritage, the brothers have faced a turbulent road ever since. Despite battling one and another on multiple occasions, the two still joined together to fight Malekith (although Loki did betray Thor…again!). Yet, in what Thor presumes to be Loki’s dying moments he promised to tell Asgard of his nobility. The God of Thunder and the God of Mischief will reunite in Thor: Ragnarok where a conclusion to the brothers story is expected. Could we see one sacrifice themselves for the other? Or will Loki’s evilness hinder his clear affection for Thor?
5. Iron Man & War Machine
Tony Stark and James Rhodes’s friendship has had its fair share of ups and downs. Rhodes was initially disgusted at the way Tony led his sporadic lifestyle but Tony eventually teaches him that life doesn’t need to be a military exercise. The two fought one another in Iron Man 2 when Rhodes donned the War Machine armour and battled Stark as he was at the control of Ivan Vanko. The pair did reunite to take down Justin Hammer and Whiplash and Stark let Rhodes keep the armour. Happily ever after, apparently not as Rhodes became the new government poster boy for the US government in his red, white and blue Iron Patriot suit in Iron Man 3. The government seen the destruction caused by Stark and figured they needed a new armoured hero so Rhodes stepped up. That one must have hurt Tony! Luckily, it looks like the past is all behind them as War Machine was revealed (SPOILERS) to one of the latest heroes to join the Avengers.
4. Groot and Rocket Racoon
The unlikely combo stole the show in Guardians of the Galaxy. Friends before Quill and co. came along, Groot and Rocket worked inharmoniously and proved to be a real powerful duo. Rocket also seemed to possess the unique ability to decipher the emotion behind every ‘I am Groot.’ The true test of their friendship came when Rocket shed a tear over his presumed dead tree friend when he cocooned the Guardians. Unlike the other pairings who have had several appearances to develop their bromances, Groot and Rocket done the impossible by making a racoon and a tree relatable and heart-warming to audiences. Expect plenty more misadventures between the duo in Guardians 2!
3. Captain America & Falcon
Captain America: The Winter Soldier established the dynamic between Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers in the opening scene. With a patriotic backdrop, the military bond between these two was clear. Both of the hero’s had also experienced loss which brought them even closer together. Falcon and Cap share similar views and have comparable pasts which make their bromance unique. The pair share a trust which is demonstrated when they bring down Hydra. In Age of Ultron, Falcon is still tracking down leads on the Winter Soldier again demonstrating his loyalty by helping a cap’s cause. Like war Machine, Falcon is also seen as part of the new Avengers line up. Don’t be surprised to see Falcon at Captain America’s side in Civil War and beyond.
2. Tony Stark & Bruce Banner
Many might have expected this pair to claim the top spot but the science brother’s land at second place. With witty, meme worthy dialogue, Stark and Banner’s relationship has been central to the two Avengers flicks. Since they rode into the sunshine at the end of the first Avengers film, the pair have been side by side ever since. Banner acted as Stark’s psychiatrist in the Iron Man 3 mid credit sequence and the duo also provided the catalyst for Age of Ultron. With the Hulk now AWOL at the end of the second Avengers, the relationship might be on the rocks. Tony Stark might not be able to win a Civil War without his buddy by his side.
1. Steve Rogers & Bucky Barnes
Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes’s bromance is one that has been ongoing since the Second World War. Bucky stuck by Steve throughout his whole military career. From not getting selected to fighting alongside him as Captain America, Rogers and Barnes were a force to be reckoned with. Bucky reappeared in the present day after as the Winter Soldier despite following to his death decades earlier. Even when tasked, Barnes’s could not let Rogers die. Civil War could see the pair return to their former glory that is if Cap finds him of course. Due to the complex nature and emotional journey faced by these two, they take the top spot as the best bromance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Is Rogers and barnes the pinacle of Marvel's bromances, or are you more of a Stark/Banner kind of guy? Could we see Iron Fist and Luke Cage claim the title they deserevdly earned in the comics? Then let me know in the comments section below!
