The writer of such works as Watchmen, V for Vendetta and Violator Vs. Badrock, Alan Moore was among the speakers at last week's Nine Lessons and Carols for Godless People. Organized by the Rationalist Association and New Humanist, the annual event offers an alternative to the season's spiritual observances by celebrating science with entertaining lectures and presentations on subjects like quantum mechanics and other mysteries of the universe. Moore briefly summarized some of his remarks in a filmed backstage interview. Among his talking points: the heredity of our universe, our holographic nature, and the distinctions between science and religion.

Just because someone acknowledges reverence to ideas represented by a symbol that YOUR religion says is evil, does not mean that they "worship evil".

You're approaching things with predisposed ideas and a closed mind so your opinion is already irrelevant.

I don't know what Moore's "religious" alignment is but if what Supes says is true and he thinks Moore weird because of it, keep this in mind, many religions worship snakes or include them in their worship including Native Americans, Hindus, and... wait for it.... Christians! I second Kane's comment

they are both atheists, and the "satanism" they "worship" is atheistic Satanism. It is basically the view that "satan" in his many religious forms is merely just a mirror up to humans that shows some of our Human traits. Those being Lust, wants, desires, hatred, anger, vanity, greed and so on. Those are all very natural feelings that are so greatly shunned by most religions.

To call it Satanism and be somewhat associated with the "real" satanism is more of a poke at christians and other religions. real satanists don't see atheistic satanism as satanism at all. The very first organized and official satanic church, "the church of satan" was dedicated to the acceptance of the carnal self, to accept the things that the church has told you are evil feelings.

But satanism isn't quite what christian churches would have you believe. Mark Twain wrote "satanistic" work before there really was such a thing in his book letters from earth. Some Satanist views are that satan is really just a symbol in the bible of your faith in crisis or loss. there are now some satanic churches that do believe satan is a powerful supernatural deity, but the true reason for the original church of satan is very lost on them.

Let me end this with i am not associated with any satanic or christian church, i am just a guy who likes to do his research.

I forgot to answer the thing that supes17 brought up, the snake deity that he "worships" is called glycon, it is a snake with a some what feminine hair and face. Glycon was Created by Alexander of Abonoteichus. He created the god glycon to basically swindle people out of there money and it was written that glycon was actually just a crafted hand puppet.

Alan Moore picked this deity not out of a religious belief. It was more that human's are all individuals and each is very unique, so why would we all follow only a few different religions so devoutly. we should each follow our own belief in what god or a god is. we should all believe in a religion that is to our own uniqueness.

Alan Moore chose Glycon not because of a religious belief but, as he stated, the absurdity of the deity was so interesting that he couldn't resist.

It is just another one of Mr. Moore's pokes at any form of organized religion which he is very much against.

yeah, the fact that we're holograms from god knows what projected from the furthest reaches of space is much easier to swallow than us being a higher being's creations... love this guys writing but his fiction is beginning to spiral into his actual life
