AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #25 Finally Reveals Truth About Mary Jane's Children And Sets Up A Major Death - SPOILERS

Since The Marvels writer Zeb Wells launched his Amazing Spider-Man run, fans have questioned what led Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson's relationship to come to such an abrupt end.

Despite the fact the wall-crawler was getting ready to pop the question when Nick Spencer's time on the title ended, MJ now has a new boyfriend called Paul and two young children who call her "mommy." Spidey, meanwhile, is dating Black Cat again, and today's issue #25 of Amazing Spider-Man finally revealed what led to their controversial breakup.

Despite Peter's best efforts to return to the dimension where MJ was stranded with Paul, what was less than a month for Spider-Man was more like four years for her. During that time, the supermodel seemingly fell in love with her fellow survivor and adopted two orphaned children they found.

It's never explicitly stated that MJ and Paul are romantically involved, but back on Earth-616, she tells Peter that she has a family now and isn't going to leave her new partner for Spidey. He's heartbroken but, after stealing tech from the Fantastic Four and Iron Man in order to save his girlfriend, the hero soon finds himself confronted by both Captain America and Marvel's First Family.

Despite his recent actions, they leave him be, even after a brief tussle with the team. However, this moment finally explains why none of his fellow heroes wants anything to do with the web-slinger, solving one of Amazing Spider-Man's biggest lingering mysteries.

Issue #26 is going to feature the death of a major character in an issue Marvel Comics claims is as shocking as the death of Gwen Stacy 50 years ago. While this comic ends with the villainous Benjamin Rabin vowing to murder MJ so he can finish his ritual and achieve Godhood, the prevailing theory online is that the real plan is for Norman Osborn to meet his maker (again).

Time will tell on that front, but Spider-Man is about to lose someone important in his life and Norman's death would likely see him placed in charge of Oscorp, an exciting status quo shift. What we do know is that Marvel Comics is still doing anything and everything to keep Peter and MJ's marriage from ever returning!

Amazing Spider-Man #25 is now available to purchase in comic book stores everywhere.

This storyline is ripped straight from Invincible.

Once Marvel established that Peter & MJ weren't allowed to be married anymore, they needed to have made a real decision on what to do with MJ. Having her continue to appear in Spider-Man comics, just to troll readers, never made any sense.

What? Why? The panel immediately below this text explains nothing.

@TheManWithoutFear - I hope the reason really isn’t Peter’s depressed lol let’s give him space

Yeah, why not. Will be forgotten soon, anyway.
Ever since Final Chapter -arc in 1998, it's been clear that they won't let Spider-man progress as a character beyond the overly familiar status quo. They always make these big changes that end up getting retconned. And it's never via natural character development, but over the top radical, out of the left feel changes that will "change Spider-man forever". Then fans reject these story twist changes, and marvel will take it as sigh to return to the status quo.
That's one reason why Spider-man: Life Story was so good (not the only reason, though). While obviously an elseworld story without the floating timeline, it did give us that progression of characters and their relationships, that the mainstream marvel has never had the guts to stick through with.

Gonna gaslight myself into thinking that Spider-Man comics were cancelled post One More Day and the only legitimate Peter B Parker of Earth 616 that exists is the one from Into The Spiderverse.

*Why couldnt they just make Spider-Man Life story be canon, end Peter's story and have Ben or Miles be Spider-Man from here on. This constant "will they wont they" garbage along with Peter's regressive and redundant character arc is infuriating.

All of this is just Mephisto [frick]ing around with Peter in hell.

So Mary Jane is going to die, it's the only death that would have any impact on Spider-Man.

Aunt May is immortal.

Whomever dies will return to life. We all know the only person that stays dead in Marvel is Uncle Ben.

@AnthonyVonGeek - He turned up in Edge Of The Spider-Verse but that was Uncle Ben from another universe.

Spider-Man needs a new editor more than a new writer if anything, they just will not move on from Quesada's One More Day status quo.

@soberchimera - Superhero comics as a whole need to ditch the sliding timescale thing for good.

@oldnoname - Basically why Dan Slott is doing a whole other Spider-Man series, they should've given the reins over to Zdarsky or Hickman, or brought back Remender.

@soberchimera - I remember Zdarsky being pretty open about not wanting to write main title spider-man. But the real issue isn't so much the writer as it is the editorial Good grief are they short sighted about character development and stagnation.

Marvel is and has always been Spider-Man's true adversary. They really hate him.

The trope of tragedy must always shaped the hero is regurgitating and Peter has always been the face of it in Marvel's landscape. Just to keep him in his place and never let him be happy.

So, the kids just conveniently look like their adopted parents? Holy mother of coincidences, Batman!
It's going to be interesting to see the next writer reveal that the kids and Paul weren't real, nor the time spent in that dimension, it was all an elaborate ruse. Followed by Peter and MJ getting back together until the next writer breaks them up again.
