Kevin Feige On The Possibility of A Female-Led Superhero Film; "It Comes Down to the Story"
In a new interview, Kevin Feige suggests that Marvel doesn't appear to have any plans for a film with a female lead yet, explaining that it all comes down to timing and finding the right the story. He is still open to it, however. Hit the jump to read what he has to say.
Comic Book Resources interviewed Marvel president Kevin Feige recently, wherein he was quizzed on the studio producing a film with a female lead. The 41-year-old admitted the demand for it was high, but says that "it comes down to timing, which is what I've sort of always said, and it comes down to us being able to tell the right story. I very much believe in doing it." He went on to explain that while people tend to point out the poorer female-led movies, they forget to "mention Hunger Games, Frozen, Divergent. You can go back to Kill Bill or Aliens. These are all female-led movies. It can certainly be done. I hope we do it sooner rather than later. But we find ourselves in the very strange position of managing more franchises than most people have -- which is a very, very good thing and we don't take for granted, but is a challenging thing. You may notice from those release dates, we have three for 2017. And that's because just the timing worked on what was sort of gearing up. But it does mean you have to put one franchise on hold for three or four years in order to introduce a new one? I don't know. Those are the kinds of chess matches we're playing right now." Here on CBM, fans have been hoping to see characters such as Captain/Ms. Marvel and Black Widow explored in solo films, but we can only hope that Marvel's future line-up has room for some ladies. What female-lead superhero movie would you like to see?
