In February, Marvel Comics is celebrating Black History Month with Marvel's Voices: Legacy #1, a one-shot featuring seven thrilling tales from all-star creators along with an introduction by New York Times best-selling author Nic Stone (Shuri: A Black Panther).

Eisner Award-winning writer Nnedi Okorafor (Shuri) pens a Venom story highlighting the importance of heroes who fight for the downtrodden. Explore Blade’s legacy – vampiric and heroic – in a story by writer Danny Lore (2020 Ironheart). And in their exciting Marvel Comics debuts, Ho Che Anderson (King) brings Luke Cage fans an old-school story about the choices that make a hero.

Author Tochi Onyebuchi (War Girls) tells an action-packed tale of a wild night in Madripoor with Domino, writer Stephanie Williams highlights family in a light-hearted Monica Rambeau story, and Marvel’s most promising young heroes - Ironheart, Ms. Marvel, and Shuri - team up for an adventure by award-winning novelist Mohale Mashigo (The Yearning).

Finally, Academy Award-winning screenwriter John Ridley closes out this epic issue with a poignant look at the impact of Miles Morales (we're particularly excited to check this one out).

"I’m deeply appreciative of having had the opportunity to contribute to this amazing collection of narratives," Ridley says. "Marvel’s Voices reminds us all of the power of words, representation and self-expression. And to be able to add to the growing legacy of Miles Morales. That’s about as good as it gets."

Marvel Comics has shared a series of variant covers for the issue by Natacha Bustos, Olivier Coipel, Ejiwa "Edge" Ebenebe, Ken Lashley, and Ernanda Souza.

I dig it... I was thinking about fandom and how quite a few of them are racists... I said it...FANBOYS are for the most part racist asf... I remember when Milestone Publishing started and some of the comic book stores in my area would not stock Milestone Comics .... because they were "Black" comics and they didn't want black kids in their stores...ain't that a bitch... but it's part of my experience...now you can't beat the same mf's checking their back issues or looking for those comics damn near 30 years later because of speculation... bunch of hypocritical mf's but... I actually lived long enough to see some of these black characters get some of the long overdue respect they deserve.

I still however maintain that a large group of fanboys are racist though and bullies as well. Comic Book Fanboys for the most part are cool, fairly decent and passionate but that one niche group of assholes ruins (the actual hobby of comic books) it for me.

@Bryanferryfan - it’s wild what time does. I still remember the day that Miles Morales was first revealed and oh boy what a day that was on here:

And now look at him, one of the biggest heroes out right now with an Oscar Award winning film

@ItsMilesMorales - I remember that as well. I am an old fan of comics and I am happy to see some of these characters getting love but I also keep in mind that always wasn't the case.

Kamala Khan had her problems as well as Miles Morales and Riri Williams but I will agree that time does heal some wounds not all.... you still see or read the cynical comments on here from time to time about characters of color and I get a little riled and often times don't comment. I was just thinking back when I was a younger man and Milestone was up and coming and not getting much love at the time. I am pleased that characters of color are getting some semblance of respect today unlike characters like LOBO didn't.

Lobo was a black western hero published by Dell comics in the mid to late 60's who only had two issues released because many outlets didn't want to display a comic book featuring a Black Man as the hero and many issues of the comic were sent back to Dell with letters or notes stating that. Although I am very pleased with advancements in attitudes towards minority characters I still harbor many frustrations with fandom and their prejudices and biases towards ethnic or more specifically black heroes.

Fanboys get "uncomfortable" when racial issues spring up in comics don't they.

John Ridley is a good get.

Hope Marvel treat him better than DC did.

They shit-canned his ongoing Batman run along with the rest of 5G because they didn't want their characters to be diversified due to the bad reception that Marvel Now! characters such as Ironheart, Kamala Khan, etc. got. Despite the fact that those Marvel characters are now hugely popular and have their own upcoming Disney + shows.

His Batman, along with all the other diversified 5G books have been rewritten and dumped out as Future State (and they're pretty much all really good). Now Ridley's The Next Batman has had a popular online response and so they're giving him a prequel series. A prequel series! Where there is a black man who might be thinking of becoming Batman at some point in an alternate future. Fvck that! That is some weak-ass consolation prize.

They wouldn't even release his excellent The Other History of the DC Universe at all and are only now relenting as some form of apology for waving the carrot of possibility over his nose and then snatching it away. All because they are siding with the initial online response against a black Batman. Or a black Flash with prosthetic legs or a Brazillian Wonder Woman.
