Why THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Is Being Rushed More Than BATMAN/SUPERMAN

The announcement of the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel has met with a mixed reaction, being called "rushed". However, IMO, when thought about logically the upcoming Avengers sequel is actually more rushed.

2012's Avengers met with acclaim from critics and fans everywhere even becoming the third highest grossing film worldwide. Everyone knew that Stage 2 was underway, and that an Avengers sequel was far from being out of the question. When announced for a 2015 release date, I started thinking. Isn't this a bit early? The sequel to Man of Steel has been called too rushed due to Batman being a confirmed headliner. However, I have seen nothing about Avengers: Age of Ultron being rushed, when in actuality, it is more rushed than any other sequel of this velocity. Here's why:

A) The first Avengers film had 5 films of buildup, each part acting as a puzzle piece to the big picture. This sequel only has 4 films of buildup (in actuality 3 because Guardians of the Galaxy doesn't play a hand in Avengers 2). And, one of the main characters actually quit his duel identity at the end of his film (although I can see how he can return).

B) Phase 1 introduced every character in The Avengers beforehand, from a cameo to a full blown feature film. In Avengers 2 however, two generally unknown characters(Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch) are about to join the team and the main antagonist needs to be introduced, although this isn't as big an issue as introducing Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, and the Hulk(small scene in Iron Man 3 doesn't cut it)as core members of the team.

C) The first movie took nearly 5 years to set up and get right, from buildup to script. The sequel is taking 3 years from the originals release date. With any other sequel, this wouldn't be a problem, but with a movie of this degree, this is not smart. IMO, should have gave the Hulk, who received an acclaimed reaction in Avengers, a sequel as well with QS and SW cameos.

The upcoming Batman/Superman film isn't being rushed. If anything, showing the Dark Knight when compared to Superman should show that if people thought Superman in Man of Steel was darker than he should have been, just how light he was when compared to Batman.

That is my opinion, feel free to agree or disagree, but to me Avengers: Age of Ultron is being rushed far more than Batman/Superman. Follow me on twitter @DRammouni, and thanks for reading!

A: They are having 4 films. so 5 films is only 1 more.
B: They don't need to reintroduce Hawkeye and the hulk, Who says quicksilver won't get a few nods beforehand? And who says they are going to be heroes, who says they can't gain their powers during the movies? There are a lot of lines to go.
C: They chose the movies they wanted to do because they have a story going. Also they are still pumping out tons of movies in between. in phase 1 they wen't 1 full year without a movie and another year with only 1 movie.

Far from rushed.
Personally don't really think MOS2 is rushed. More just weak (not using other heroes), batman might be a little rushed since he doesn't get his own solo film but oh well.

Depends. He wrote that A:AOU is being rushed as a comment couple days ago. Dude is usually a douche but I don't think your one.

I will say as a Hulk fan, you have a point with the Hulk point. No [frick]ing reason at all he couldn't have gotten a movie.

Not at all Whedon said he had the Idea for A2:AoU before he started on A1. Most of the characters don’t need lead up because they are already well established. The recipe doesn’t need to be the exact same as the original. Worlds Finest isn’t rushed at all either both of the characters are mainstays in popular entertainment. How long do you think it takes to make a good movie? 3 years is plenty of time to come out with a classic movie.

THE AVENGERS sequel has been in talks reportedly since 2010/2011. As far as the Hulk sequel, Ruffalo signed a 6 picture deal, so if you count his cameo in IRON MAN 3 and being confirmed for A:AOU and more than likely the second Avengers sequel, that theoretically leaves him with 3 films left in his contract. I'm pretty sure they have a Hulk sequel in the mix in the future

And reportedly, throwing Batman in the MOS sequel wasn't in Snyder's or Goyer's plans.......

No, it's not rushed, 3 yrs between sequels is pretty standard, which is why some worry about the Superman/Batman film being rushed (you could argue the same about TASM 2.) The first Avengers needed that extra setup, the extra movies. All that works has been done now, so this one won't need as much.

In fact, you could easily have just gone straight to another Avengers film, except that would've left 2 summers with no Marvel films, which would have been a dumb move financially considering how much money these movies are making. (Although, the law of averages dictates that a Marvel film will eventually flop. Probably GotG or Ant-Man, although I think Thor will, while not necessarily flopping, probably not live up to the box office expectations of many Marvel fanboys. Catching Fire will kick its butt 2 weeks after it comes out, so those first 2 weeks better be spectacular.)

As for the MoS sequel, I don't know if it's being rushed or not. It is possible that is what's happening, we'll just have to wait and see. 2 yrs for a movie with a huge special effects budget does seem a little fast to me.

Every time you mention “the law of averages” it makes me roll my eyes and not pay attention to anything else in your comment. Most of the time you make sense until that phrase. SMH

Hulk and AntMan should have got a movie before A2 in a perfect world, but besides that I don't think it's rushed. QS and SW I think will have a LOT to do with this movie so I don't think it's necessary to introduce them before. Understand your points but I think it'll be fine. :) At least I hope so!

the avengers (2012) 3 years later the avengers age of ultron (2015)

man of steel (2013) 2 years later batman vs superman (2015)

batman vs superman is more rushed.

Weird, as much as I'm on this site every day, I haven't heard a single person say anything about either film being rushed. I have only heard the complaint that its too early for a rebooted batman. I don't agree myself. I would rather something than nothing.

Neither one is being rush. If that's the case, then every sequel to a movie is rushed. Studios wants to put out out movies ASAP. Take Avatar for example. The movie came out in 08, and for a couple years it was very hype. Now, not so much. The Avengers hype is at an all time high right now, so wouldn't it make sense to put out the movie ASAP. another example.

The avengers age of Ultron is coming 3 years after avengers.

The dark knight came after 3 years of batman begins. TDK was a great movie.

Iron man 2 came out 2 years after ironman and iron man 2 wasn't as great.

Mos 2 is coming two years after MOS. Just sayin, not trying to be a hater or anything.

people have previously made valid points (s/o to 0mega) but you have to think of AoU like this. Its coming 3 years after the first Av movie, but by the time it comes out, 4 movies in this particular "series" will have come out leading into it. IM3, the first movie to phase 2, came out almost exactly a year after Avengers did. We're getting Thor at the end of the year, Cap in spring of next year and GotG near the end of next summer with AoU coming out at the beginning of summer 2015....how is that rushed?

The MCU Production Line, that is!

Keep sending them in, one after the other, non stop!

Of course SludgeTroll and other Marvel fans would shit their pants.

Look neither film is being rushed. Man of Steel's ending actually does have a good set up for Batman.

Both films will be great and make a billion though I don't think AOU will make as much as Avengers 1 because sequels rarely make more than the original.

It's always funny when the DC fanboys make lame ass excuses for the fact that throwing Batman in a MOS is a rushed attempt at gaining more BO earnings. Omega pretty much nailed it in his comment. The FACT that WB/DC is rebooting Batman in only 3 years says it all but yet you have the apologists that are making comparisons to movies that make sequels in 2-3 year timespans. That's a totally different scenario and a desperate cop out.

LEVISHIT

Shit my pants over what? Seeing Batman and Superman for the 5 millionth time on screen? LOL. Please! And of course this would be passable for you since you consistently making articles about your infatuation with a rightfully done DCCU.

Yes I can tell you didn't shit your pants.

Also here's a funny stat:

Iron Man's first film was in 08 and has been in 5 since then. AOU will mark his 6th.

Batman has 7 films, Superman has 6, Iron Man has 5 and will have 6.

Pot meet kettle.

Besides the MCU films may have been but they have been simple as [frick] and brought nothing new. Hell Iron Man and TIH were influenced by Batman Begins and are in no way better.

Call me when Marvel makes a groundbreaking film. All Avengers is is a modern day Ghostbusters.

And where's the FLASH, WONDER WOMAN, and AQUAMAN film that's been under WB/DCs belt since 1978?

The difference with Marvel Studios and WB/DC is that MS doesn't only put creative focus on 1-2 character in putting them out in live action and Marvel in general doesn't do that. As I've said before, Batman has the most media output than any other character in DC with 7 live action films, half of DC animation in both animated movies and shows are Batman related, and he currently has about 13 ongoing titles in the New 52.

Marvel doesn't just focus on Iron Man, or Hulk, or Spider-Man, or Thor, because they have the balls and creative diversity to branch out. Over the course of over 30 years, DC has given us 6 Superman films, 7 Batman films, and a bunch of poorly or not well received films based on Vertigo properties with no Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman or Justice League done yet.

In the course of 5 years, Marvel Studios has/is given/giving us 3 Iron Man films, 2 Thor films, 2 Captain America films, a Incredible Hulk film with a possible sequel, 2 Avengers movies, and Guardians Of The Galaxy with plans for Doctor Strange and a possible Black Panther.

You say that the MCU isn't groundbreaking, but yet WB/DC and Fox is wanting to do a shared cinematic universe with their CB properties after the huge success of THE AVENGERS. LOL.

Abomination was a bitch. And the x men aren't a team? I had no clue. But tell you what. If marvel does have the first multiverse film, then DC had the first partnership film, where as marvel can't compete with that. Batman and Supermans friendship and partnership remains probably one of the most important relationships in comics, nothing that marvel can hold a candle too
