Last week I tried something new and rounded up what you were all discussing in the comments. That post pulled 62 comments of its own, and BiffDitko even asked to "bring back the old Marvel 'NO PRIZE'!!!"
Lanterns took over the comments this week. Five of the ten busiest threads were about the show, and together they pulled nearly 480 comments!
The loudest fight started with Josh's piece on the show's Nielsen numbers (105 comments), which pointed out that Lanterns couldn't outperform the likes of Bluey on the streaming charts. Rpendo wasn't having it: "If your benchmark for an hourlong r-rated adult drama is that it has to beat 'Bluey' for it to qualify as a success, you're probably not the right person to do viewership analysis."

Baf went further and wrote a whole editorial arguing that the numbers were being read without enough context, and I promoted it to the homepage. That thread hit 81 comments on its own.
That's EXACTLY what I meant last week when I said users generating the content is what this site runs on! 🤓
The busiest thread of the week was James Gunn telling unhappy Hal Jordan fans "Sorry if you don't like it", at 116 comments. bobevanz made a point that comes up a lot around here: "They didn't care that Marvel never religiously covered comic book story lines."
DocSpock's "How does this horrible show still manage to get worse every week?" on our spoiler post pulled 11 likes.
The show has real defenders, too. Huskers has "been reading comics since 1977," always found Hal and John boring, and loves following them in this version. blacksocksdaily "started it fully expecting to hate it," and is now watching every week.
A new episode airs tonight, so expect round two by Monday morning.
Avengers: Endgame Encore was the other big one. The post-credits leak drew 96 comments, and a lot of you weren't impressed. Batmangina kept it short: "That was underwhelming AF."
BiffDitko went even shorter: "Money saved."
Then Mark Cassidy's review called it a cynical re-release that cheapens a great movie, and that's at 85 comments. hova26 answered with "Finally, an honest post." AlexGSpeaks pushed back: "Films are rereleased on the regular these days. This is nothing new."
I'm heading to IMAX to see it myself tomorrow with my wife (nothing like a cheap matinee for "Date Night!"), but I'm not going for any of the extras. I just want to see it again in the theater and experience it the way it was meant to be…
OK, the No-Prize.
George Lucas explaining why he didn't direct the sequel trilogy drew 82 comments, and plenty of them went after the $4 billion Disney paid for Lucasfilm. InfinitePunches kept answering the same way: "He donated the money to charity."
They're MOSTLY right... When Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012 for about $4.05 billion, roughly half in cash and half in Disney stock, he said he intended to give the majority of the proceeds to his philanthropic work. He'd made the same type of promise in his 2010 Giving Pledge, committing the majority of his wealth to education.

One of your replies said he donated "every penny," and that's a stretch. Lucas pledged the MAJORITY, and he was still calling himself "a significant shareholder" of Disney in 2024.
Over on Robert Pattinson explaining why he won't play Batman in James Gunn's DCU, krayzeman argued that Batman has had dark stories for decades and is still a Justice League member. KennKathleen took Pattinson's side: "The most Batman thing to say is Batman wouldn't work in a team group."
My look back at Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 turning 10 hit 73 comments. EskimoJ put season 4 up there with any season of any comic book TV show, and added, "the fact they managed that on network TV is astounding."
And the thread that's still going: Jon Watts is reportedly directing Star Wars: Episode X, and it's already over 60 comments since it went up this morning. BiffDitko's pitch: "Perfect place to introduce an 'aged up' Grogu."
