Warner Bros. Discovery Confirms DC FanDome Will NOT Take Place This Year As Virtual Event Is Scrapped

Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that there will be no DC FanDome in 2022, and it sounds like the event won't be returning in future either. Find more details on what's happened to the show here...

Say what you will about Warner Bros.' handling of its DC Extended Universe, but the virtual DC FanDome event has been a lot of fun these past two years. While 2021's effort was a tad more low-key, it still delivered more than a few major reveals and sneak peeks.

Unfortunately, it's now been confirmed that DC FanDome will not return for a third year.

In a statement shared with Deadline, the studio confirms, "With the return of in-person events, Warner Bros. Discovery is excited to be able to engage with our fans live at numerous comic-cons around the world and will not be scheduling DC FanDome for 2022."

Warner Bros. took Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Black Adam to this year's San Diego Comic-Con, but that Hall H presentation was largely overshadowed by Marvel Studios. Fans also lashed out at the studio for its lack of announcements and a couple of trailers that, while fine, hardly broke the internet.

Ultimately, only a small number of fans can get to these in-person events while last year's DC FanDome attracted 66 million global viewers. We'd bet on this being a cost-cutting measure on Warner Bros.' part, anyway, especially after they recently pushed a number of movies into 2023 (including the Shazam! sequel) due to a lack of funds for marketing purposes.

Another DC FanDome would have also been a good opportunity to hype the likes of The Flash (June 23), Blue Beetle (August 18), and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (December 25).

We'd like to think some announcements could have also been made, but that would require Warner Bros. Discovery to actually have a plan in place for the DCEU. CEO David Zaslav hopes to enact one, though he's yet to enlist a Kevin Feige-like individual to figure it all out.

Are you disappointed that we won't be getting DC FanDome this year? On the plus side, Disney+ Day takes place as planned on September 8.
