Here's What's Happening With DEADPOOL 3, SUPERMAN: LEGACY, And More Following End Of SAG-AFTRA Strike

The SAG-AFTRA strike is finally over and we have updates on plans for Deadpool 3, Superman: Legacy, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and The Brave and the Bold. Find more details after the jump...

The SAG-AFTRA strike ended this morning after 118 days. The WGA strike concluded back in September and the whole of Hollywood will now get back to work; however, there's going to be one heck of a backlog for studios to work through.

While some have decided to resume shooting on movies and TV shows in January because the holidays are fast approaching, Deadline has learned that Deadpool 3 will resume production this week "or in the very near future."

The trade previously reported that the Marvel Studios threequel would move from its planned May 2024 release date, likely switching places with July's Captain America: Brave New World. Now, though, it's possible the Merc with the Mouth's team-up with Wolverine will be released as planned.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is expected to resume voiceover recording but remains undated. As for Venom 3, while it shifted release dates yesterday evening, that too is set to wrap its last few weeks of shooting imminently.

On the DC side, Superman: Legacy has continued pre-production work amid the strikes and is now eyeing a March shooting date to meet its planned June 2025 debut. Previously, the plan had been for cameras to start rolling in January.

We even have news on The Brave and the Bold. Andy Muschietti's Batman reboot is still said to be in early development, with The Flash helmer currently focusing on Max's It prequel, Welcome to Derry

Dealmaking in Hollywood has already resumed, meaning we'll soon get casting news again. Whether Marvel Studios can quickly enlist The Marvels' cast to start promoting the sequel is hard to say, though it may be too little, too late at this stage.

Announcing that a deal had been made last night, SAG-AFTRA missed a statement which revealed, "In a contract valued at over one billion dollars, we have achieved a deal of extraordinary scope that includes 'above-pattern' minimum compensation increases, unprecedented provisions for consent and compensation that will protect members from the threat of AI, and for the first time establishes a streaming participation bonus."

"We have arrived at a contract that will enable SAG-AFTRA members from every category to build sustainable careers," it added. "Many thousands of performers now and into the future will benefit from this work."

It's good news for everyone, and while 2024 is still likely to be somewhat chaotic for Hollywood, it finally feels like we're getting back to business as usual...

My bet is still on DP3 not R rated contrary to the initial announcement.

@vectorsigma - Didn't they just conform Blade will also be Rated R?

I highly doubt they will change Deadpool 3 to PG-13. Not after years of telling fans it will be Rated R. They know the fans want it to be R. Going back on their word could actually hurt their sales.

@vectorsigma - how many times do the director, stars, writers, and producers have to tell you people that it’s R before you believe it? Or do you just WANT it to be PG13 so you have something to whine about marvel studios on comicbookmovie.com ?

@vectorsigma

The director has said on multiple occasions it's going to be R.

@regularmovieguy @CorndogBurglar - just a hunch.

This is a major development in the Multiverse saga and knowing how the GA got alienated with all the Disney+ shows which resulted to dwindling box office results, they would want a lot of people to see this. It sounds like an event movie.

Also, Levy is known for family films. Im not sure if he was involved in any R rated ones.

Disney has changed directions on some recent projects like Snow White and even Daredevil. So we have precedent.

@DanFlashesShirt - who hurt you today?

Yeah, just believe everything you see on the internet as hollywood is a place of honest people which dont change their minds

@vectorsigma - its gonna be rated R.

@xfactor - i will not say bad things about mr wilding and his journalistic capabilities if that is the case 😀

@vectorsigma - The changes to Snow White and Daredevil are VERY different.

They KNOW people want Deadpool to be rated r. It was a huge talking point back when they announced it would be R because they knew fans were worried about that.

Snow White got changed because of fan backlash of no dwarves. Daredevil got changed because it was supposedly awful.

Neither of those are the same things as Disney promising an R rating for a movie that fans were worried about not being R.

@vectorsigma - Basically, Snow White and Daredevil were changed in an attempt to NOT piss off fans. Changing Deadpool to PG-13 would 100% piss off fans.

@CorndogBurglar - good points, and just to be clear, i want this to be r as well.

I just cant get my head around having a wolverine with that colorful and accurate costume getting missed by the general audience (at least in the theaters). The bosses at disney/marvel wont pass that up i think.

And im imagining how confused people will get if this is a "pre requisite" (looks like it) for kang dynasty and secret wars.

CorndogBurglar - 11/9/2023, 5:06 PM
@vectorsigma - I do see your logic. And it does feel like a Disney thing to do on other instances. I just think they know how mad people would be in this case.
vectorsigma
vectorsigma - 11/9/2023, 7:00 PM
@CorndogBurglar - yeah, it is for them to weigh their options. Theyve angered the fandom already anyway.

And IMO, that singing planet scene in The Marvels will not top any rating change (if ever) for DP3.

Time will tell.

So in short, strike has ended leads to people going back to work. Got it.

A good thing about the change in Superman Legacy's shooting date is that it will give David Corenswet another 2 months to bulk up (for those that think he needs it ofc).

@Superspecialawesomeguy - Exactly.

The dude has the perfect look naturally for Supes and with the pace he's been going at so far, hopefully he'll look like a pure POWERHOUSE by filming.

I support the strike and all and imma let you finish, but it must be nice to be making enough money that you can strike for months on end and not have to concede just so you can eat.

I certainly don't know all the details or everyone's situation, I just know if all of my colleagues went on strike and the higher-ups held out that long we all would have been back within a month, maybe two.
