Eternals arrives in cinemas one week from today, and a few days ago, we got to catch up with star Barry Keoghan to discuss his role in the movie as Druig. Now, as we're sure many of you will be aware, the character's comic book counterpart has frequently been portrayed in a villainous light, so we had to ask whether the actor thinks that could be reflected in the MCU at some point.
"Yeah, I think so. I don’t want to put any ideas out there. I definitely think he’ll take a stand," Keoghan teased. "He finds it hard not to interfere and stuff. It’s for the right reasons. He has some valid points to interfere and he’s doing it for good reasons, but yeah, maybe he does. Maybe he does. I’ve got no idea!"
In Kieron Gillen and Esab Ribic's Eternals run, Druig has turned on the rest of the Eternals and allied himself with Thanos. That's not going to happen in the MCU, of course, but we were curious if Keoghan has any dream supervillain team-ups for his version of the character.
"Hmm...I’m just going to throw my favourites out there so hopefully it happens. Thor? [Laughs]... I don’t know. Him and Loki definitely have a similar thing going on, right?" he pondered. "I don’t think they’d get on, though. Would they get on?" They both have something of a mischievous side, but seeing as the God of Mischief has been reformed in his Disney+ series, it's unlikely Loki could be tempted back to the dark side by Druig (stranger things have happened, though).
As for Druig, something tells us that he could definitely embrace his villainous nature down the line.
There's plenty more intel in our interview below, including Keoghan's thoughts on making the leap to the DCEU for The Batman and what it was like to shoot Eternals' impressive "team-up" scene.
