Could the Black Panther appear in The First Avenger: Captain America.
The blog below speculates that Black Panther could indeed make a cameo appearance:

While I'm certain we won't be seeing Black Panther in Thor or Iron Man 2. I'm starting to think we could be seeing him in Captain America. There seems to be a big enough push for Panther to get his own film. Plus there seems to be a new storyline of comics with him teaming up with Captain America in WWII. Previously producer Kevin Feige mentioned how the film might be their most international film yet. Joe Johnston confirmed to CHUD the Invaders would be in the second half of the film made up of an international cast. While the original lineup seems strong enough I could see Marvel adding other characters. Since it looks like Namor and Human Torch might not make the lineup. Black Panther like Union Jack has had different generations taking on the superhero identity.

Marvel will release a Captain America and Black Panther team-up comic book in April 7, 2010. The story will be set during WWII.

From Marvel.com
CAPTAIN AMERICA/BLACK PANTHER: FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS #1, out April 7, unveils the first meeting between the original Captain America and Black Panther, told by the equally legendary Reginald Hudlin and Denys Cowan.
"It's a look into the history of the Black Panther and Wakanda during World War II, as well as a story about an important part of Captain America's past," says Cowan. "We also get to tell the story of [Howling Commando] Gabe Jones and we get into looking at these fantastic events from his perspective. It feels like a great World War II movie with Captain America and The Black Panther."

I agree Bamf@, Black Panther should have his own movie.
@Leee: I think the author of the blog meant they could add other characters instead of Human Torch and Namor to the Invaders...that's my undertstanding.

I'd like to see BP in Cap, I think a more reality grounded Invaders would work better than guys on fire, and Atlantean princes. Yes he wasn't in Invaders in the comic, this isn't a comic, it's a movie. Calm down.

I don't think Wakanda or Black Panther (T'Chaka) would join USA/Great Britain/France and the Invaders to stop the nazis.
Now, maybe T'Challa will join the Avengers later in the future.

About the release of Black Panther and Captain America comics, it's probably because there is an animated serie about Black Panther which was release some weeks ago. With the first or second episode opposing Cap against Black Panther during the WW2.

I'm really curious how they could go about this for a couple reasons...

A - All of you are right, the Black Panther is not an "Invader". The word itself contradicts the BP's style.

B - But there are no stories that go beyond the origin of T'Challa which makes me curious how they would portrait T'Chaka...

C - It's long overdue that the Black Panther makes it unto the big screen.

I'm hope they don't tarnish the Black Panther's heritage with American war views. How typical... He's the greatest most respected Black Superhero because he's nothing like George Bush. I'll be looking out for those comics and more about this possible cameo

this won't happen.....
Wakanda is an isolationist nation.
T'Challa is the one who brings his country back into the fold.
not T'Chaka.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't mind. It could be BP's father.

But I am still holding out a little bit of hope for the original team.

The only way I can see it working is if T'Chaka has something personal he's after. He wouldn't be concerned with the war overall but he's there to help rescue a friend/relative or retrieve a family/national artifact. As others have stated, getting involved with the war effort would go completely against the Black Panther mythos.

OhioJones - Very good points. It would be interesting to at least see a BP cameo (T'Chaka) as a way to introduce the character and it's mythology to the movie audience. It would make for an easier transition if T'Challa is to join the team later on.

Maybe it could show a quick scene in which Cap ASKS the Black Panther for help, and is told no because Wakanda only is concerned with itself. That would at least establish a character in fans minds...maybe even have his wife pregnant with little T'Challa or something. That I would be cool with..but yeah, it would just be very against the BP code to get involved, especially in a group called the "Invaders". I want Namor!

Yeah, US can ask some help in the League of Nations (the pre-UNO), and the representative of Wakanda (with a little panel in front of him where it's written: T'CHALLA - WAKANDA) can say that his country will not participate to this war. After some european countries say they participe and they create the Invaders.

Aztlan - not a bad idea. But you must mean T'Chaka would be the one in the scene, since T'Challa would not yet have been born.

Cameo? Yes.

Invader? NO!

Oops, yes, I meant T'Chaka, thanx McLovin ;)

Aztlan - No problem bud. I think your idea would work great, since it would not take long to film or be something that would require lots of money to put together. It would satisfy us CB geeks and set up for the possible up coming appearance of BP in Avengers. Great thinking ;-)

he won't be one of the invaders. unless, like Darth said, its his father. but no, i don't think they should...
Paulley
Paulley - 3/20/2010, 1:30 PM
well obviously it would have to be his father and they would have to come up with a good reason for him to be there but in essence it works well

realistically the character is very plausible like Union Jack... and if they include him in a later Avengers film it will give him a good connection.

Also then a good chance as a spin off.

Plus i really dont want there to be any Super-powered people in the invaders that ruins Captain America central theme of being the First Avenger.

he needs to be surrounded by costumed heroes no superpowered ones

personally i'd like to see black panther in avengers; although i typically like some fidelity to the comics, and black panther was not an original avenger, i think the avengers have a certain thrust of diversity that BP embodies.

eslayer - 3/25/2010, 7:05 AM
yea i agree with everyone but the only problem with the black panther is his storyline and origins have more ties to fox studios than marvel pictures. Think about ii he fights the fantastic four and doctor doom all rights owned by. Not to mention storm as his wife lets face she has to be in his movie. But hey shit happens ultimately its a good idea and maybe they could have a battle at first where Cap and Bp fight and after the Battle they agree to help one another like the comic book.
