{Note: I couldn't find proper stats so this hasn't as much research done for it as I have for other fan casts}
I have been planning on doing for some time now. This is one of my favorite novels and I have been hoping for a more classic adpatation, since the last real adaptation was a masterpiece, but it was nearly 20 years ago. So I comprised this little cast of actor's for who I feel would honor the Dracula story responsibly.
Count Vlad Tepes Dracula - A centuries-old vampire and Transylvanian nobleman, Count Dracula inhabits a crumbling castle in the Carpathian Mountains. Beneath a veneer of aristocratic charm, the count possesses a dark and evil soul. He can assume the form of an animal, control the weather, and he is stronger than twenty men. His powers are limited, however—for instance, he cannot enter a victim’s home unless invited, cannot cross water unless carried, and is rendered powerless by daylight.
Gaspard Ulliel (Hannibal Rising, Ultimatum) – Now I understand it's odd to cast a young actor as Dracula but in truth I wanted a younger actor to make the character a bit more relatable to the audience. Gaspard is a fantastic choice, he has a thick european accent to fit the character Dracula, he's got the talent to portray the love scorned literary monster.
Dr. Abraham Van Helsing - A Dutch professor, described by his former pupil Dr. Seward as “a philosopher and metaphysician, and one of the most advanced scientists of his day.” Called upon to cure the ailing Lucy Westenra, Van Helsing’s contributions are essential in the fight against Dracula. Unlike his comrades, Van Helsing is not blinded by the limitations of Western medicine: he knows that he faces a force that cannot be treated with traditional science and reason. Knowledgeable about vampire folklore, Van Helsing becomes Dracula’s chief antagonist and the leader of the group that hunts Dracula down and destroys him.
Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds, The Green Hornet) – His absurd talent, voice, and look to portray a perfect Van Helsing. He can portray the character's oddities and stern relgious views. Waltz is definitely a star who's got the right qualities to portray Abraham Van Helsing.
Jonathan Harker - A solicitor, or lawyer, whose firm sends him to Transylvania to conclude a real estate transaction with Dracula. Young and naïve, Harker quickly finds himself a prisoner in the castle and barely escapes with his life. He demonstrates a fierce curiosity to discover the true nature of his captor and a strong will to escape. Later, after becoming convinced that the count has moved to London, Harker emerges as a brave and fearless fighter.
Daniel Radcliff (Harry Potter {Film Franchise}, The Woman in Black)– He needs more roles to really distingiush him from Harry Potter, he's made a good start with Woman in Black. I see him fitting the role of John Harker very well.
Mina Murray - Jonathan Harker’s fiancée. Mina is a practical young woman who works as a schoolmistress. Eventually victimized by Dracula herself, Mina is also the best friend of the count’s first victim in the novel, Lucy Westenra. Mina is in many ways the heroine of the novel, embodying purity, innocence, and Christian faith—virtues she maintains despite her suffering at the vampire’s hands. She is intelligent and resourceful, and her research leads Van Helsing’s men to Castle Dracula.
Kaya Scodelario (Moon, Clash of the Titans)– She's a wonderful actress who has done some pretty spectacular and noteworthy films in the last few years. She's a natural brit who could pull off the role and accent with not trouble what so ever. She is just perfect for how I envision Mina.
Lucy Westenra - Mina’s best friend and an attractive, vivacious young woman. The first character in the novel to fall under Dracula’s spell, Lucy becomes a vampire, which compromises her much-praised chastity and virtue, and banishes her soul from the promise of eternal rest. Determined that such an end is unfit for an English lady of Lucy’s caliber, Van Helsing’s crew hunts down the demon she has become and kills it, following the rituals of vampire slaying, and thus restoring Lucy’s soul to her body and to heaven.
Emma Watson (Harry Potter {Film Franchise}, My Week With Marlyn)– I originally thought of her as Mina but decided it would feel to much like a paring of Harry Potter stars, and being that Lucy has pretty much no screen time with John I felt comfortable casting her as Lucy. She no doubt has the talent and the looks to pull the role off and I'm sure a lot of people would enjoy to see her in this role.
Dr. John "Jack" Seward - A talented young doctor, formerly Van Helsing’s pupil. Seward is the administrator of an insane asylum not far from Dracula’s English home. Throughout the novel, Seward conducts ambitious interviews with one of his patients, Renfield, in order to understand better the nature of life-consuming psychosis. Although Lucy turns down Seward’s marriage proposal, his love for her remains, and he dedicates himself to her care when she suddenly takes ill. After her death, he remains dedicated to fighting the count.
Nicholas Hoult (About A Boy, X-Men First Class) – He sold me in his performance as Beast in X-Men First Class so when it came to cast this role he just jumped out at me as the best choice. He can do intelligence, humor, action, drama all rolled in one.
Lord Arthur Holmwood - Lucy’s fiancé and a friend of her other suitors. Arthur is the son of Lord Godalming and inherits that title upon his father’s death. In the course of his fight against Dracula’s dark powers, Arthur does whatever circumstances demand: he is the first to offer Lucy a blood transfusion, and he agrees to kill her demonic form.
Alex Pettyfer (Beastly,I Am Number Four) – This guy knows how to act and I'll give him that, he's really done well with his performances but he's not really a spotlight actor, I see him working well with Ensembles and the role of Arthur Holmwood fits him well.
Quincey P. Morris - A plainspoken American from Texas, and another of Lucy’s suitors. Quincey proves himself a brave and good-hearted man, never begrudging Holmwood his success in winning Lucy’s hand. Quincey ultimately sacrifices his life in order to rid the world of Dracula’s influence.
Benjamin Walker (Flags of our Fathers, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) – This guy has been showing some great talent and after landing the title role in Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter he's become a rising star who would fit the role of Quincy Morris pretty well.
Dracula's Brices - The three wives of Dracula.
Alexa Davalos (Clash of the Titans), Julie Voth (Bitch Slap), Natalya Rudokova (Transporter 3) - I just wanted three gorgeous women who have a selective exoticness to them.
Writer & Director - The position of the film crew that supplies the script and directs the actors.
Jane Goldman (X-Men First Class, The Woman in Black)- She has continued to impress me with her body of work as a screenwriter and now that she's breaking into directing, Dracula would be an appropriate project for her.
Composer: The Person in charge of laying a soundtrack and setting Music to join the mood of the film.
Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Toy Story 3) - As amazing as his work his there is no reason why is wonderful work on music could't give an iconic score for this adaptation.
