Heh heh, if you've been following my reviews here, you would know that I don't hold this series to a high regard. Issue one was a good start, issue two was excellent, but after that, the series went flat, flat, and FLAT. I gave the last issue a four, and that's pretty bad. Surely, the series must get a little better, right? Maybe? Hopefully?

Surprisingly, it does.

I actually found myself enjoying this issue. We have less than annoying human characters, the only likable human character Steven Woods gets a role, and a monster fight. It's short, but it's a fight. I actually have hope for this series now.

But it still isn't great.

The plot continues with the monsters, (only Godzilla, where in the heck is Rodan?!) but our government has a plan: Project MECHAGODZILLA. Meanwhile, spiders have been dying around the globe, that can only mean one thing....

Yeah, I was very surprised about them bringing Mechagodzilla in so soon. It just feels too fast, and according to the issue, it's been about a month's span time. Huh? It feels like this has only been going on for a few days, maybe a week at most.

New monsters Mechagodzilla and giant spider Kumonga are welcome additions. Mechagodzilla is based fully on his design from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2. He's handled pretty well, but the part where he goes haywire (tribute to Mechagodzilla 3: Kiryu going haywire) doesn't make sense. It's too sudden and out of place. Kumonga is handled pretty good, though he just gets one panel. Hopefully he'll do more later.

Godzilla is looking good, one stand out scene is when he blasts Mt. Rushmore to ashes. The battle between him and his mecha counterpart is good, it feels like a movie.

The art is lackluster, it can look pretty ugly sometimes. Mecha G looks great, but the the humans look almost awful. And what are with these boring main covers? They should make all the covers cool, I was stuck with the Mecha G footprint, "Made in Detroit."

The sad part is that I think IDW is using this series to poke at today's world. We have tax and government bashing. It's really quite sad, instead of being a Godzilla series, it's OUR world with monsters in it.

In closing, I was honestly surprised by this issue. It was well-paced, no really annoying characters, and good monster scenes. We just needed more of those. And the script was lousy. (Saved on expense? I mean really?) Still, this is an improvement. We'll see what happens next issue.

I give this issue a 6/10.

I feel that it's not IDW is using this series to poke at today's world, but more it's Eric Powell and Tracey Marsh.

The one thing that really bugs me is the Mechagodzilla plot hole

I'm just some what happy to hear that issue #8 will be Powell's and Marsh last.

@TheBigBadShadowMan.....OH MY GOD AWESOME!!!! two more issues to suffer through then some REAL TALENT will come on board and give us the proper treatment the Big G deserves....I do agree that its the writer trying to poke at our world, not IDW's.

@Destroyer....good review as always. The fight was the only good thing. even if it does have a MAJOR plot hole.

True, it's the writer that does it, but it's IDW who okays it. When these guys are out in two issues, maybe the series will pick up.

Next issue has potential, KING GHIDORAH.

@CC87 This time I think it's accurate, they showed his emblem on the back, so he'll make an appearance.....even if it's one panel.
