Putting the The Amazing Spiderman in the MCU

Sony are willing to share, but what if they did it the FUN way?

First, before I start the article, let me apologize for my last one.

Amazing Spiderman was my second favorite movie of 2012, and my second favorite CBM, right above TDKR and right below Avengers. Spiderman is tied for my favorite superhero, along with Deadpool.

So naturally I was excited when Sony announced that they were ready and willing to share Spiderman with Disney and MARVEL. It showed that Sony actually knows what fans want, and knows that it could benefit them in the end too. (Too bad FOX isn't as smart.)

However, this knowledge is pretty dang hard to confirm considering Avengers took place in New York as well as Amazing Spiderman did.

Playing your cards right.

Here's how we go, I got this idea from a side quest in the Amazing Spiderman video game, Spidey has to bring back mental patients to the police, and one of them calls him "Captain America".

That's when it hit me, we don't need a fancy end credits scene that says "Ooh we forgot to mention, Spidey's in the MCU."

Just have people in Amazing Spiderman 2 talking about the Avengers in the .

For example, one guy in the background goes, "Hey who do you think would win, Spider-man, or that Stark guy?"

This ties the knot quite well.
Putting him in the MCU

First and foremost, don't have Spidey join the Avengers in Avengers 2, have him WORK WITH THEM. I believe it would be better this way, because then he would be more of a protector of NYC, like he always was.

Now, we have to think, why would Spiderman work with the Avengers?

The answer?

He's not trying to. The Avengers are looking for new recruits, and Stark mentions a guy swinging from webs in New York.

Character interactions
Character interactions should be something new.

For Iron man, Peter and him don't get along, calling eachother "Metal Head" and "Web Head". Spiderman shows little respect for Tony's lack of responsibility.

For Captain America, it's mutual respect.

For Black Widow, Bruce Banner, and Hawkeye, They'll treat Spidey like a child.

For Nick Fury, Fury says Spiderman has yet to "prove himself" of being able to save the world.

For Hulk, he'll treat Spiderman the same as everyone else.

If they were -that- close to mixing TASM with the MCU, the it stands to reason that they'll have time to plan something just as good, or possibly better for TASM2 or The Avengers 2. I already consider The Amazing Spider-Man to be an "unofficial" part of the MCU because of the whole Oscorp building deal.
Also, Avi Arad has shown a willingness to collaborate with Marvel Studios, so I think we'll probably see something. Maybe nothing huge like a crossover, but an agreement that allows referencing of each other's continuities, name dropping, and little easter eggs.

I'd like to see spidey team up with daredevil now the rights have reverted to marvel because that's a thing in the comics and spidey is my favourite marvel character (obviously) and daredevil my 2nd I would geek out so much if that happens

The Amazing Spider-Man needs to have no connection or anything with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Just wait until Marvel gets the rights back. People have no patience anymore.

Hell. Spidey, Ghost Rider, X-Men and Fantastic Four are the only properties Marvel doesn't have the rights to. Ghost Rider is more than likely the next to go back to Marvel. I enjoyed all the movies, even if GR had the worst of them. Yes, I even liked the Fantastic Four movies.

Spider-man is never going back to Marvel, he makes too much money for Sony and he always will be so only way he'll be in Avengers is if Sony allow for some type of profit sharing system, which I can see them doing as they could make a percentage of Avengers profits for doing KO work.

As for TASM, just having someone mention Tony Stark, errr New York is in ruins, so we know TASM was pre-avengers so if TASM is post-avengers then need a way of explaining his 'no-show' which can be done even if something cheesy like Parker was out the country.

I wouldn't want Spidey on a team, but I would like references about the characters in the movies!

@AcidicHeart Always wondered about if there'd be any additional clauses in the contract, thanks for clearing that up.

I would love to see Spider-man as an Avenger one day though, I think he'd fit right in with their wonderfully wacky yet powerful characters

Gotta get away from the Avengers when referring to the MCU. Obviously this stickiness is based off of the Avengers' mega-success, but you've got to be practical.

Spider-man isn't an Avenger. Sure, he PAIRS up with heroes more than anyone else in Marvel, but that doesn't make him a team player.

Not to say he shouldn't appear in the MCU, on the contrary, that'd be really cool - but Ben Grimm has more reason to be appearing in the Avengers.

It's also why CBMs need to evolve pretty drastically soon - I mean we look at the Avengers and consider it Marvel's premier superhero team, as though all stories will revolve around THOSE characters, and the best day of the MCU characters' lives would be to work alongside the Avengers.

We need stories to drive the movies, not just the characters. As in, instead of calling an Iron Man movie "Iron Man 4", try naming it "Demon In a Bottle", featuring Rhodey, Namor, Captain America, and Ant-Man. Spread it out. Focus would of course, be centered on Stark, but you'd have a hell of a supporting cast. Not saying that Iron Man 3 should have followed that route, but think about it.

They can explain Parker's absence from the Avengers quite easily. He could just be in another area of New York. The focus of The Avengers was the Avengers, specifically fighting through Manhattan following Cap's orders. Spider-Man wasn't an Avenger, nor was he following Cap's orders, but he could've been fighting off some Chitauri somewhere else (the movie never really specifies how widespread the Chitauri invasion is, only that it's in Manhattan). And The Amazing Spider-Man would have to be set before The Avengers, obviously.

@AcidicHeart I agree with that actually, I think Spider-Man would probably fit in better with the Defenders. The Defenders seems to be a team of misfits, and Spidey fits that better than Avengers, which is a more generic superhero team. A great Defenders line up would be Dr Strange, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Namor. Daredevil would also be a possible choice, but I'm not sure I'd want to see him on a team, even a dysfunctional one like The Defenders. I left out Silver Surfer because he's Fox, and I think in the MCU Hulk fits in with the Avengers better, and I wouldn't want anyone to be on both teams.

Spidey should not be on the avengers, he's too much of a loner same with daredevil they don't fit into the team mold, obviously Disney and sony would want him in if they can get some sort of deal agreed which I can't complain if they do, its make a ton more money than the first one based on the avengers name alone and spider-man could easily sell the movie for them

@AcidicHeart

Finally! After hearing Feige mention set reversion dates for the Fox and Sony properties ("Some of them have very firm reversion dates"), I've been hunting for insight into the timing on these. Does that mean that the Spidey rights you've clearly laid out are the same for X-Men and FF?

Assuming all of the contracts end after a 10-film run, does the unreleased FF film count, since that was under Constantin and not Fox? And as far as the 20-year stipulation, is that based on release/kickoff date of the first film for each franchise or the rights start date? Just trying to determine the X-Men rights (rights obtained in 1994, film released in 2000).

Thanks...truly appreciate it.

I would rather this trilogy finish before we put him in, overall just wouldn't be right. Let Sony finish there run with Spidey then let the rights revert IF marvel studios is backed by Disney

Makes sense, regarding X-Men (my math is pretty shit, but 2014 didn't add up, logically, with what is planned, including DoFP). I would assume the unreleased FF film wouldn't count, since that one was pooped out in '94.

Thanks for the skinny. You've given a depressed X-Men fan some much needed hope. I'll untie the noose from the rafters now.
