Michael Bay's Transformers movies have had mix to negative reception. But are they as bad as most make them out to be? Personally, I don't think so. Alot of people complain about them being more focused on the humans rather than the transformers themselves. Here is what I feel the movies got right that make them good, The second movie, was ok at best and mediocre at worst.

Strong focus

The Transformers films are known to have focused on the humans more than the robots, that's also where some of the critizisim lies. I think if these movies were set on Cybertron, then yes It would make sense for them to focus on the robots. Them being on earth in this series though (It should have ended at Dark of the Moon) the focus was on the humans and quite frankly, it made it more interesting. I'd rather see how the humans deal with everything rather than the robots.

Reality and Fantasy

The films do a good job at tieing in real life events and architecture with the history of the robots. Hover Dam in the first movie, Egyptian Architecture for the second and Apollo 11 for the third. It's a very unique and unexpected take on the franchise, at least for the first anyways.

Length

The movies are pretty lengthy, but it's because of the development of the characters. The first film did a great job at doing this, but then the second and third films suffered from lack of character development but was solid in story development. That was the problem with Revenge of the Fallen. It was good in story, poor in execution. But you also got to think, a writer strike was going on at that time. Did you expect something amazing during the writers strike?

Epic

Now, before I hear complaints. I want to explain this. The films as a whole weren't epic, but the sheer size, scale and the music from Steve Jablonsky is what makes them epic. Well, I should say the first and third. I didn't think the second was epic at all in any shape or form.

Direction

Michael Bay is to blame for some of the faults of the films but also think of the scripts. Michael Bay does like action movies and they've been pretty good. Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Bad Boys, Transformers 1 and 3, just to name a few. He makes good movies but he gets a bad rep because he makes loud action movies, movies with explosions. You can't expect anything else.

This is what I think. What about you? Comment below and be respectful.

I think hardcore fans are just upset that it's more story than action. I personally think that this and other Michael Bay movies serve the purpose that every movie should be serving, they're made to entertain the audience. I'm not expert in films, I know that as movies that they're bad ones out there and the Transformers films are far from perfect, but their not the worst movies out there despite the subpar Revenge of the Fallen.

"If you give a mouse a cookie, after all, he's bound to ask for a glass of milk, for which he'll certainly need a straw, not to mention a napkin, and a mirror to check for a milk mustache, which will only lead to him noticing that he needs a haircut."

That is where the human focus is.

For Transformers, the Cybertronians are seen from the viewpoint of the humans, rather than the humans from the viewpoint of the Cybertronians. Because it is the human perspective, you get all the crap that comes with the rest of Sam's viewpoint - school, parents, girlfriend, work... and it doesn't stop there. Now and then there's a pile-up of bullshit from other characters who interact with Sam, which only barely relates to the Cybertronians.

Another example: I went on a road trip, and on my way back, I locked my keys in my car. So I started walking from business to business asking to borrow something that might help me break into my car. When I entered any establishment with my bag, an employee or manager would immediately inform me that I can't bring that in there, that I can either leave that in my car or with them while I shop.

After waiting in line to ask a counter person for help, they would tell me they won't help me steal someone's car, even with my insurance card in my wallet to prove otherwise - it was not their problem. One person actually started going through my bag, asking if I left my keys in there... before telling me they can't help me.

The movie is about Transformers. We shouldn't have had to wade through bullshit to find them in their own movie.

reboot please and thanks...

im a diehard transformers fan and it can be done 10 times better with the right scipt, the guys who are writing the screenplay have no idea about transformers and what the fans want to see and what would make it a great series

If people like them then good for them, but in my opinion these are some of the worst films of the past decade. They're all effects and no story. All the writing is pretty much awful, the scripts are filled with every stereotype and cliche you can think of, plus a good dash of sexism and racism for extra measure.

They have good effects, but effects don't make the movie. Effects are the least important thing. Effects are just there to enhance the visuals, but they're useless if the story sucks. I mean, you get more story from the Peter Griffin vs Ernie the giant Chicken fights in Family Guy.

Interestingly enough, I couldn't stand to watch any of the actors from these movies, because I was convinced they were bad actors. Then I watched Lawless, and I was dumbfounded by Shia Laboeuf actually being a decent actor. So that also goes to show just how bad a director Michael Bay is, when he can't even pull a good performance out of a capable actor, and can make a film so bad that it can tarnish the reputations of everyone involved for a large amount of the cinema going audience.

I used to be a Transformers fan, but since these movies I'm embarrassed to call myself one now, and I just don't care about the franchise any more. At a push, I can just about tolerate the first film, but I would never choose to watch it unless it was unavoidable. The second was atrocious, I actually fell asleep in the cinema. I won't even bother watching the third.

Michael Bay is a hack.

See, I can't leave the movie theater half-way, even if I don't like the movie I'm watching. I paid $10, I mean come-on, I have to go home with the full promised experience. It's an investment.

That said, I'm usually very selective about the movies I see on the big screen.

I liked the first one well enough, but the other 2 were horrible. I mean, not even the action could make up for it because you could never care about anybody involved in the fights. IronHide's death in the 3rd one was alright, but nothing else was worth sitting through, imo.

I think they are fun, action packed and your text book definition of a summer blockbuster. Transformers are a HUGE part of my child's life (although Transformers Prime is his favorite) and they make him happy, so for that reason, I love them.

Say what you will, but this is still one of my most favorite scenes in a movie ever.

And to all of you who keep wanting a reboot, that would probably mean needing a new voice for Optimus. Do you really want to see Optimus without Peter Cullen?
